Well I bought the game and sank a few hundred hrs into it, I finished the plot too. But now to be honest I felt like nothing much left to aim for, no challenges, the combat AI is appallingly bad, the pathing is bad too, cap ships fly through stations ect, still many bugs. The trading is broken and doesn't work very well, My opinion is, I see a good game maybe in time with lots more added and a lot of the rubbish removed. It still is an unfinished game with lots more to do. I do still support egosoft and hope they succeed eventually, I feel I had my moneys worth though it could have been much better. Now I am looking forward to ED, and will probably go for SC too next year.

Indeed. I haven't played it but I've read several reviews and seen gameplay videos. They can fix bugs and tweak, but they cannot rectify a poorly thought out core gamplay experience. From what I've seen Rebirth's issues run a lot deeper than that.
I have to agree Jenner. I played the X series since X2 The Threat. Played all of them since then. Mods, updates, addon's etc. And the latest debacle is not even funny but it is a joke. I am done with them. I will never buy another game from them. They can say what they want but Rebirth is trash, plain and simple. I was a big fan of the series and I am angry with what they did to the series in name of profit. 
I bow to you Sir, I have less than 2 hours playing time to my name.
Must try out the new patches though.
I haven't brought myself to bother with trying the patches yet. The initial experience of playing left me with such a sense of horror at what they'd done, not just the bugs, but the game itself, that I can't yet bring myself to load it.
So we'll see. After playing all the originals & expansions, it's a £40 mistake I'll never make again that's for certain.

Well the first thing I notice about X- Rebirth was that they take care of the isues in previous series. but with it did so huge steps in different direction that X-rebirth sound like a very different game then those before. It sounds very good building from scratch the new systems up. Where you put legacy code asside. But the result wich doesn't fit the gameplay styles any more. Just back fired.
But they change the gameplay and the new UI while different and feeling in its core very new, still doesn't fit the game well.
So my expectation where the change so much radical that I was cleuless what te expect. Also if I would like ths new kind of game. The seven years made me think of better change of quality. But the huge rework also state that its a bigger task ten extend fir a sequal.
Knowing the non quality they deliverd in the past. My expectations where very reserved.
I like the old series also broken incomplete but there where fun things to do.
This game is so to different. Its more the gameplay choices are the direction I do not prefere. Wich is a bad thing.
Its always a huge risk wenn change the game formula so drasticly. Big chance to alienate the fan base.
I also got the impresion that the previous games are low quality as with a lot of prolems but seams this invarnation is tad more unfinished and broken.
Because my expectation take this into acount. It is somewhere close to expectations a bit worse. But not a surprise.
That a good thing for those people here that console have so much controle over releases on there platform they can filter out the more quality games and block the very broken once.
Also if it was beyound exoectation of high quality and polish. The direction the went in is not something I like. I did play broken X series because of this. You can own and pilot big capital ships. That what draws me to X series.
And why I give Derk Smart universal combat a try
That what been cut out wich. But I do play pure fighter base games to, so give it a try.
Will give it a retry after patch 1,25 and lokin out for 2.x.

Really depends on your spec, but as of the last patch (1.30), I had over 80fps in some blue highways, 50-60 fps in devries, but only 12-15fps in some rocky zones, especially the ice rock ones. Mostly around 30fps in Albion zones.

It won't make me return to Rebirth, though - I probably am what B.Lehahn refers to as a 'series fan who wants X4 out of X:Rebirth'... Seems like their design goals with Rebirth are utterly fixed (no meaningful personal trading, no tens/hundreds of ship changes), so... that game is fundamentally not for me, even in a fixed state.
I was very satisified with the gameplay/mechanics of X2/X3 games, so.. yeah. Having straight up an X4 with just new gfx/game engine and multithreading would have been sufficient.

Absolutely this. However, if they do announce an X4, I will not be pre-ordering again from Egosoft. I'll wait for the reviews before purchasing. Possibly not even then with E: D around.
X-Rebirth is at 2.x range. Normally for Egosoft game in this number range it gets playable.

And there was not much competition out there the last 10 years.

Could be. Could be that there submission bounced off. And there was no funding's over or feasible to get it trough. That the beauty of closed platforms. the filter out the most problematic games. That why the quality of console games is higher. because the black sheep's don't the gates.

X3 we got boarding got even better.
XR that one ship. It has the feel of Normandy in Mass effect but to small and less polish. And that ship is only playable. But I give it a try and went exploring with no clue what to do until I came in Xenon sector. Shooting stuff.
