The X-Rebirth Thread

So they are at 3.0 so getting to more finished state.
Well take a another test drive. Wonder how it looks on my 32" 1440P screen and a R9-290X.
My latest try was on my old 5870.

how is it to play these days? i gave one of the earlier game a try, i think it was X3. the learning curve was really steep. the interface and contorls were difficult to use so i ultimately gave up. the concept sounded really good though, it's basically what made me excited about ED

I played a few hundred hours after the first release, the game improved a lot over the months with updates/patches, the learning curve is much easier than earlier x3 games, you only have I ship, everything can be controlled from a gamepad now if you wish, I found though, the game lacked depth, and after a while it all seemed pointless, and got a little boring.
more content is needed, the universe feels too small, lets hope 3.0 brings more of what it needs.

It's a shame they didn't release now instead of a year ago, would have gotten them much less grief and wouldn't have been so much of a dissapointment.

I started a few days ago, only half way through the campaign but so far it´s like a huge tutorial guiding through game mechanics plus an actually pretty interesting story, complex gameplay but not too hard to learn .I am very surprised how much X improved since release when I bought it I couldn´t even launch it properly and it crashed every 5 minutes. Had it deinstalled for almost a year now.

the campaign just gave me a remote controlled freighter "Rahanas" for trading, let´s see what it does, I managed to dock on it, that was pretty cool for a start

i have just been trying it out, you can play the beta version of 3.0 now, it has most of the functions of the dec update, except the extra teledi systems, I see lots more combat now, stations looked wrecked and war torn in a lot of cases, you can now build stations in empty space, I have the cap ship bridge mod installed too, which works really well, and much more immersion sitting on the bridge with your officers and looking out the windows, rather than in a docking bay. I was in albion yesterday where I saw enemy cap ships, surrounded by fighters in formation attacking various zones. cool.
All in all this game (with a few mods) has improved so much over the last year.
There are places where this is on sale really cheap, well worth a look.

Also for those that are new to the game, there is an abandoned Rahanas in Drippy ascent, that you can easily board, (even with 1 marine). To find it, drop out of highway in Drippy ascent, and head towards the bright star (light) and it will appear on scanner. This can be sold for over 4m, so helps a lot at the start.

Edit: I just uploaded a video showing the cap bridge mod in beta v3.0.

Egosoft will be releasing another X:R update (2.50), details here. The screenshots from the Teladi Outpost DLC, which is free to pre-order for existing owners of X:R until 1st of November, look....."familar somehow". ;)

Yes...The Teladi Outpost did bring a wry smile to my face when I first saw it, I think I know what you mean ;)
They also need to update their home page, with the price of the game from their own store I think, the game is still up for sale at about 40 euros.
*Sigh*...It's a weird personal feeling, but I just cannot get the interest to play this game. I've still got it installed & updated, I occasionally boot up the game to look at what's new or been 'fixed', but the underlying design just leaves me cold...for want of a better word. I still play a few hours a week of X3TC though. I'll no doubt try the new expansion, and it was the right/good decision to allow the expansion to be free to the previous owners of the game, so I think Egosoft are working hard to rectify their recent mistakes. There's so much I could say in relation to this game, it's previous history, the previous designs and fan base culture...but for me personally it's time to move on, so I'll leave it at that. ;)

I'm now looking forward to Elite Dangerous, the Gamma phase (this will be my first foray into the game btw. :D) and hopefully todays newsletter. I'm not expecting miracles to happen...but I'm getting quite excited at the prospect of playing in the 'Elite' universe once again, and experiencing how it will develop into the future. :D

yeh during that vid I got a fps drop, x rebirth just doesn't like recording.
I run a r9 280 fx 6300, and my fps with rebirth can still vary between 20-40-60-70, and still occasionally 5-10. lol, the bridge mod does seem to impact performance a bit.
but most of the time not too bad now.

I know they have to support the game but I hope they just dump it and concentrate on X4, I am like you, I was there at launch which was of course horrible but to a certain extent predictable given all the other glitch's their games launch with but I though, hey! It's Egosoft, they fix their stuff but this game is just junk, fixed broken it is just horrible (IMPO).

I have gone back to X2 with a huge Mod pack, great!

Aaah X: Rebirth.. beautiful and so close to what I wanted from a space sim but so many bugs and weird things in UI, repetitive tasks... that it killed me after a while. I still think it can be a great game, but not sure if they'll get the time and resources to do it. I gave up, and now looking forward elite instead.

Why did you bump this thread and actually remind me I spent money on this terrible terrible terrible game.

Hi guys...... what is the feeling on this one now (please no comments from those who gave up months ago! I am interested in how it is NOW!) (no offence meant)

i see it is in the steam sale and i have heard rumours that there is a decent game in there now, after a terrible start.

thanks

I tried it pretty recently when it was on a free for the weekend thing on Steam, and I wish I hadn't bothered even at that price.
