The X-Rebirth Thread

My opinion on this particular X Part:
It looks great the first time. You get used to it after a few docking procedures. It gets really annoying after a few days!

Becoming similar to X-Rebirth is my greatest fear regarding 1st Person content in E : D

I played the X-Trilogy for many years. I loved the game mechanics and the story behind it (got the book boxed with X-btf). I gave Rebirth 2 Months in its first incarnation and a few tries on V2. But really - Egosoft ruined the great game (X-BTF, x²-TT and X³-Albion Prelude were really good successors to FFE^^).

I had a watch of a few youtube videos last night, after launch day I just cant bring myself to reinstall it though - let alone give them any more money!

I played the 4.0 release. Mind you I didn't play it when first released so I don't have any frame of reference. In fact it's the first X game I've played.

I find it a bit clunky and complicated. But that's to me who doesn't really have the time to invest in getting to know this sort of thing to a fine art.

Probably not much use to you veterans of the series.

And did you enjoy it so far? The piracy in it is quite advanced from what I've seen in videos.

Still on the fence with this game.

From an abysmal release

to

a mediocre space game

what is it now with this latest release?

For the money, is it worth the time? I'm a bit flush with great games at the moment with, EDH, EXCOM 2, Prison Architect (so addicted), Diablo 3 (back into it after missing two major updates) and a few early access things. Oh and even more I still intend to start up like Rise of Tomb Raider, latest update for City: Skylines and the final planet to get through on Planet Base.

So...it has to be a very engaging game b/c, with me, it would be entering quite the crowded field currently dominated by a fire breathing mech named Elite Dangerous.

Yeah I mean on the surface it seems fine I haven't played a huge amount of it. Maybe the first 4 hours or so. I'm a bit bamboozled by a lot of it and I was quite surprised it seemed a bit dated graphically. Doesn't seem that long ago it was released though I'm probably wrong on that.

It's a slow burner I'd say and it's not helping that I don't get much time to immerse in it with family life. Also not helped because I've rediscovered the rather excellent Wasteland 2.

with said games left for you to complete, XR is not worth even thinking about yet. It can actually be enjoyable now but compared to other stuff ... yea ..

P.S headsup - the snow mechanic in Skylines is bound for the map, so don't expect changing seasons.

For me Home of Light is huge step forward. It is fun to play, everything seems to work know (I had only one problem with a mission) and the art and the layout of the new sectors are very good. Everything has change for the best, at least for what i saw during the 10 hours I put in. However I completely skip the campaign and completely avoid the old sectors for now (I really find some sectors completely silly design wise)

Clearly with this DLC, I have the impressions that the dev have finally finish to fight against their creation and started making art (Home of light system is perfect).

And with two or three mod it is an absolute blast.

I bought this a couple of days ago, Egosoft have the complete X:Rebirth (game and both dlc's) for £20.

I needed something to play until 2.1 releases as I'm not playing ED at all atm. This seems to be quite fun, I know its got a lot of hate but I'm rather enjoying it so far. :)
I have no mods yet, I guess I don't need any at the moment.

Have you met the granny with the big cahoonas on the space station yet? You will have nightmares.

If someone doesn't mind answering, I'd like to know if this game is more sim than ED?

After buying ED, I was shocked at how simplistic and basic it is to takeoff, fly, dock and land all the vessels. They are all turn key = boring.

Is X3 more of a flying challenge?

In one word: no.

X games have never been focused on that aspect. Flying around is a very straight forward experience (albeit a pleasant one). So if you find Elite too simplistic in that regard, don't even bother with X Rebirth.

You may want to check Rogue System, if you haven't already. Be warned, though, this is extreme to the point of being a bit boring (IMHO).

X-series has never been about flying the actual ships, the ship is more the center of your business management. You should definitely try X3 is you are into base-building, setting up logistics and such. Flying the ship is a bit like flying a debub camera. For a 'Han Solo in space' thing like ED X:R is a bit better (but the flight mechanics are still pants), but still nowhere close to ED. As our friendly duck said Rogue System might be more your thing, but that is really quite hardcore.
