The Xbox 1 server and server issues discussion thread.

The short answer: YES. You will have to be back before the 6th. I would make sure your back and all exploration data turned in NLT the 4th. Fly safe & God Speed!

As an update to this, we fixed this on our development branch and it should be deployed to the PTS servers now. Thanks for the reports!

Thanks for the update! Sounds like the problem was as serious as it appeared to us on the client side of things. Hope the changes you guys made will mean more stability going forward. Hoping that you will be closely watching this over the weekend to insure that we don't suffer another extended outage like this between now and Monday.

Cheers. :)

PC/Mac and Xbox server merge next week!

I received Elite Dangerous newsletter #91 earlier today, and after reading through it I found this:

"Xbox players will be transitioned from their own test server to a combined server with PC/Mac players next week, so from then all players from all platforms on the test servers will share the same background simulation."

This means that we will be playing with PC/Mac players who are on the test server(on PC) for a stress test. Should be interesting.

Another note from the newsletter, the Imperial Cutter and Viper Mk. IV has been confirmed, and a screenshot of the cockpit of the Federal Corvette.

I don't think you'll be facing off with them, my understanding is that the background simulation is merged, but xbox and PC/Mac are essentially in two private groups that cannot meet.

I may be wrong though.

I have read that we will NOT share anything but the background galaxy and sim. Power play, commodity markets and exploration will be shared across platforms. Instances will NOT. So no wings of Xbox/Mac/PC players.

As a side note, I wonder if this will change the plans of what we get to keep at full release. I am still looking for a solid list of "You keep rank, rate, time in service, total assets, rep... etc... etc..." but haven't found much concrete.

As long as I keep my liquidated assets, I'm fine with everything else getting wiped! I'd prefer to keep my rank, but I don't mind working my way back.

Yeah, I am in the same boat for the most part. I am going to play it safe and sell off my ship and modules before launch and just hop in an Eagle or something cheap for a day or two. My credits are more important to me than the rank and rep.

Link? I haven't seen it yet :)

This is the comment OP is referring to from the Dev Update:

You are not wrong. "Crossplay" as that is called is not going to happen for a multitude of reasons. One has to do with XBL and how the network is setup which is very different than the Multiplayer network the PC and Mac use.

As for retaining our ranks and everything... They have always said this would be the case since June. Only thing we loose are our ships and any discovery data pre-merger. We can just rebuy our ships with the lump sum $$ we are supposed to receive when the final game comes out. I just hope that this happens smoothly without major problems with people getting shorted the amount of credits they had at the time everything gets reset.

I have started taking screenshots of my stats so that if there is a problem, I will have proof of my total assets and everything.

No, it means that the backgroud simulation will be merged. So we will have the same marketplace data and powerplay faction / Exploration data. We will not be able to see PC players in game.

Great Intel, thanks.

"Merge" is a misnomer, they aren't merging anything the way I understand it, we're losing everything (discovery data) and will be forced to use the existing PC/Mac server with no transfer of any of OUR information. Say our data is "X" and the PC data is "Y" and the "new"(a misnomer also, but a useful one) server data is "Z", a merge implies X+Y=Z, where Z>Y. As I understand it, X will be set to equal 0, and there isn't any X+Y, but even if there was, X+Y=Z would lead to Z=Y. A "merge" would imply that if, say someone on our server had first discovery data on a system which had not been explored on the PC/Mac side, they'd retain that honor. As it stands, they'd need to wait until release, then, assuming no one had explored it in the meantime, go reexplore the system again. So nothing you do now will matter, except insofar as the money and rank you gain go, and upon release, you'll have to go much farther afield to find "virgin" territory PC/Mac players haven't already "despoiled".

Yeah...That sums it all up nicely. Merge is the term FD has been using, so that is where that term is coming from, while I agree with you that technically, that isn't really an accurate description of what is going to happen for us.

I guess they figured that it would be too much trouble to integrate any of the XB1 discoveries into the PC/Mac database that were not already claimed by a PC or Mac player. My guess is that considering the amount of time we have had to play the game, the lion's share of our discovery data is probably redundant and for the most part were all already discovered by PC and Mac players a long time ago. Sure there will be a few areas out there that XB1 explorers have gone where they managed to collect system info that has never been gathered before, but I bet that is a very tiny percentage of our total discovery contribution to date.

I don't really understand why so many XB1 players have gone so Hog Wild with the deep space exploration efforts when FD has said since Day One that ALL discovery data was going to get wiped multiple times before the final XB1 release and our version ultimately being included in the PC and Mac database of the background sim. I can't really feel any sympathy for anyone on the XB1 over their losing all their discoveries based on that widely known fact.

The way I look at it, 95% of what XB1 players "think" were their original discoveries were probably already on the books over on the PC/Mac side under someone else's name. ;)

Exactly when is the server merge?

I am currently returning from Sag A and I want to sell my data before I lose that money.

I thought I had until October 6... Thanks for the generous heads up FD...

They didn't give us an exact day and time. They just said "Next Week". I would hussle and try to get back over the weekend.

They're merely moving you from dedicated Xbox One beta servers to the same servers currently being used for Stress testing next week. (Moving you from one beta server to a different beta server). They've most likely got a GPP4 build (in line with 1.4 Stress Test) going through Microsoft Certification as we speak.

I very much doubt anything will change with regards to your save, your client will simply connect to a different server than it does currently. You're still not moving to the live servers until October 6th.

You are missing a VERY important fact here... The database we will be using after this move will be the same one that the PC and Mac use, so if that doesn't mean a loss of current Cart data for the XB1, I don't know what does!
