The Zoolympic Games

@Annie_konik do you still want to join? Let me know if you can submit by the end of tomorrow, then we can still add you to the score form 💚

Oh wow, thanks so much for remembering. You know I felt quite uninspired lately and couldn't finish anything. I mean not to a satisfactory level anyway. 😌

But maybe if I try I may be able to complete my Pallas's cat habitat and submit it this afternoon. If that's ok? It only needs a few finishing touches.

For sure, no pressure at all but if you feel like it, go for it :) Sometimes I don't feel inspired but then I just start doing something I like, even if its not the main goal, and then when I get going the flow state begins and I can tackle the harder bits.

Just got done scoring and id find it usefull to increase the points able to earn from 5 to 10 in each category. That would give more leeway in the ratings to more acurately reflect our feelings. It also wouldnt feel as bad to give lower scores, which imo is also important as giving everyone a 3 or more feels like the nice thing to do but doesnt acurately reflect the gab in quality between different builds. Going up to 10 gives the option to better differentiate the builds in scoring, as for example i thought that mr hyraxes build was pretty good but there still was a very obvious gab between it and villanelles build just by matter of scale alone. Rating them 4 and 5 does reflect it, but imo the extra wiggle room of a 7 and 10 would reflect it better, especally when we consider the builds id rank between them, as for example hugos build is absolutly lovely and feels above mr hyraxes but below villanelles shere scale, so just being able to give it an 8 or 9 would be nice and surely help clean up any ties.

Id also think something like a "Level of Detail" category would be usefull, cause that often is what makes a good build a great one. Creativity in idears of what you do and the pure aesthetic of how good it look are ofcourse important and shouldnt be replaced, but it just feels fair imo to add a thrid category here to honor those that went beyond whats nessecary and also to point out in score when a build has good idears, when it looks decent, but just needs a bit more detailing to get from good to great.

I also find the animal welfare category to be a bit redundant, as it can be expected that all builds will either have it anyways as its very easy to do or activly refrained from it as a creative choice, for example finis build where its about a literal stray so it just muddles up the points a bit imo
Thanks so much for your thoughts @KönigDerKaffeebohnen . This is just the kind of discussion that I want us to have - none of the rules or standards are set in stone and I want them to evolve as we play and get better.

I agree with point 1 completely. How does everyone else feel? Should scores be out of 10?

Points 2 and 3 combined are about what the scoring categories should be. I like both of your suggestions. I think we should keep to a max of 4 or 5, otherwise it's too much to ask of everyone's time.

Do people want the following changes? Comment to let us know!
1. Change scoring from 5 to 10 points
2. Add 'Level of Detail' to scoring categories or change 'Realism' to 'Detail'
3. Remove 'Animal Welfare' from scoring categories

By the way, I have decided to sit out of entering future rounds and just host the games, rather than compete. It feels a bit unfair as I set the topic, dates and deadlines and have longer to think about the brief. I've also clocked a couple thousand hours in the game now! Winning anything (if I do) doesn't feel so good! I might do an 'example build' sometimes if I feel like it but will not enter. It also means I can run more games as I don't need to factor in play time as well as admin time. And I do like me a bit of admin time 😅

1. Also completely agree
2. No strong opinion either direction. On the one hand planet zoo feels like a game made for details and therefore such a category feels justified, maybe im also a bit biased as small details are something that i love to do. But on the other hand i feel there is also alot of overlap with the beauty, realism and creativitiy categories. Switching realism with level of detail might be a good option as not everything is even meant to be realistic, and it feels wrong to give fantasy builds that are still very well build a low score here.
3. Id actually argue to keep it, not everyone plays sandbox and therefore have disadvantages in other categories. So having one where franchise players can shine seems like a fair thing to me.

Thanks so much! I was able to finish the cat's habitat and I took the screenshots. I'll try to send my entry very soon ☺️

I feel similarly about all 3 points 👍🏻

The score form has been updated. The same link will work.

@Mr-Hyrax 2 @Frogstrich @FlameWizard492 and @KönigDerKaffeebohnen - my apologies but please could you submit your scores just for Annie's build added at the end of the chart? You can put 0000 for all other entries to skip through it. Alternatively you can DM me your scores for her build if that's easier for you, and not have to reopen the score form. Her entry has been added to the folder and is called 'Pallas Cat Habitat by Annie'.

Score Form (again)

Entries folder (again)

@FlameWizard492 - just a little reminder to please score your own build 1, 1, 1, 1 in each category as per the instructions. I can fix this for you in the scores spreadsheet but please remember for next time as it makes my life easier 💚

Hold up one sec, there's a formatting issue with the doc...give me a few mins to fix it please.

@Annie_konik please could you remove the tabs from your google doc? It won't save each page when I download it as a PDF

Thanks so much for doing this!
And I apologise for the trouble
