There are no stupid questions only stupid people.

Ordering a drink is not a comparable analogy. ED is an MMO, so you should compare it with other MMOs to see how they handle it. I've only played a few:

WOW, Guild Wars 1 & 2, City of Heroes / villains......they all offered multiple character slots....its standard practice really.

I don't particularly consider this game an MMO. It's a space sim with some MMO elements; 'loot' only just made it into the game! I don't see that multiple commanders is something that this game 'needs' simply because others have it. I've only played UO, EQ, WoW, some early space-sim MMO I forget, Guild wars... but I don't see those as particularly relevant to Elite in this regard.

The game is pretty cheap in comparable terms. I honestly don't begrudge spending more cash if I want a second commander. I suspect that if I head off to the far end of the galaxy at some point then I will do so.

Others disagree. Vehemently. It's all discussed on several specific threads, if you'd like to reignite the matter.

I don't see the point, it's been around since the start, if someone hasn't already reported it which would be astounding, then no one sees it as a problem. I don't even see it as that much of a problem I just find it hilarious, and think by now it is a well known issue tbh.

Can you please describe the exact issue to us; we're trying to answer this question like we answered all the other ones? What you have described doesn't make any sense to the people listening to you. If you went into more detail it might help.

Agreed I wouldn't know how to categorise it either. MMO seems as apt as it gets, it can be RPG if you like, between friends. But it is neither an MMO or and MMORPG. It's just a catch all title.

Happened several times but only in the Cobra Mk III, when you lose power in it if you have missile placements the missiles fire and destroy you if you don't quickly disable them. It probably only happens to me because of Thargons, the new mutated spawns of Thargoids who are bringing the galaxy down form within. If that is the case forget I spoke. It is a very weird thing though. And perhaps it is due to something I am doing within game more than a bug exactly. If it only happened in combat I would put it down to enemies just suddenly using missiles because I was a sitting duck, but that is not the case.

Thanks for bearing with me though. Appreciate the help.

Why should he submit a bug report? He thinks it's part of the game design (even though nobody experiences the same).

Not quite, I think it's part of the game design because it has been happening to me since launch, hence if it was fixable it would have been already. If it only happens to me hence it is part of the game design meant to stop me from doing who the hell know's what but it's been happening to me for a few years, and I am at a loss to know why.

I't good that you are thinking about it, but being antagonistic to peoples problems even though you don't experience and therefore you think they are in the Narnia, is not all that helpful. Just ignore them if you can't help them. It would show maturity, if you have nothing good to say, say nothing is my advice. Alot of forums would run a lot more smoothly if the sarcasm element was taken out, and people just helped each other insted of mocking things they do not understand.

Please try it. it's your choice but I am sure you would spend a lot less time being demeaning if you did than if you were preposessed to keep along the same weary path of mockery.

I think my initial post was rather helpful. But when you insisted on this being a hilarious stupid feature instead of a bug (despite several experienced CMDRs telling you otherwise) I got the feeling that you aren't interested in answers. If this isn't the case, I am sorry for being rude.

MMO is not a genre. It's nothing more than a description of connectivity like; singleplayer, multiplayer, online CO-OP, local CO-OP, etc.
People are just too used to the concept of MMO-RPGs. Those are RPG games.

I didn't think it was hilarious as in, I was mocking the event, just that when it happened it made me LMAO. In that sense I apologise too, as I never meant to make out it was a fault issue, or anyone was to blame. Just that it made me laugh.

Everyone's been helpful but forums do lose a lot by not being a face to face discussion. We're all guessing at the motivations of others because we are losing 90% of what communication really is. In that sense we're all playing football blind.

when it continues to happen and no one can explain it I will go on laughing. Because it truly is inexplicable and I wish someone could explain it.

If no one else is experiencing it then it is not a bug, at least we have established that. I will probably mess up at some point and have it happen again, and so be it. happens and then you die, there's no point complaining about something you can do nothing about.

- Why large ships doesn't have an auxilary bride, so that pilot can leave decompressed (cracked canopy) room and head to other control room inside of ship?

Because monogamy?

Punning at a high level. lol.

Okay, try asnwering these questions, if you can :D:

- Why "Synthesis" is capable of printing 105 huge cannon shells under 2 seconds from a few non-refined pieces of ore? Even melting these would take some time...
- Why large ships doesn't have an auxilary bride, so that pilot can leave decompressed (cracked canopy) room and head to other control room inside of ship?
- Why life support oxygen supply doesn't scale up with ship sizes? And why would large ship blow up, instead of allowing pilot to move to other room with air?
- Why doesn't pilot gets his guts thrown out of ribcage, when ship hits something at 450 m/s?
- Why does Sidewinder's 1A Sensors(1.3 ton) give 6km range, and Anaconda's 8A Sensors (160 tons) give... 7.68km?
- Why can I buy military ships, huge guns and narcotics, but cannot pay few credits to someone to paint name of ship on it's hull?
- Why our speed is limited in space?

Matter re-sequencer technology. Same reason you can survive more than 3 days without going to a station to buy food and water....>_>

Thargoids

- Why doesn't pilot gets his guts thrown out of ribcage, when ship hits something at 450 m/s

Advanced seatbelt technology and inertia dampeners

- Why does Sidewinder's 1A Sensors(1.3 ton) give 6km range, and Anaconda's 8A Sensors (160 tons) give... 7.68km?

Because 158 tons of that sensor is armour plating and access hatches

Why can I buy military ships, huge guns and narcotics, but cannot pay few credits to someone to paint name of ship on it's hull?

Ships, guns and sweet sweet drugs are mass produced in gigantic station factories and is easier and cheaper to create and sell. Custom paint on hulls is difficult and time consuming. Also space paint is super toxic, there's a reason your paintwork doesn't melt off the second you drop from hyperspace right next to a blue white hypergiant.

- Why our speed is limited in space?

Normal space: Intense safety features to prevent people from obliterating a station or send themselves into a high speed manoeuvre that they can't escape without creaming the inside of their canopy with all new "creme cmdr"

SC: Limitations of the frameshift drive, the FSD can't compress and expand the space around the ship at a rate that would allow going past 2000x light speed.

Loitering means to dawdle, to slowly sit on a place, or to stand around without apparent purpose, If I am flying over a landing pad at 100kms it's pretty hard to call it loitering, ease up thought police if intended to loiter I'd slow right down and sit on your landing pad for a while. You can't warn someone for someone they didn't do by definition, or your laws are bunk.

The law in this game is fine up to a point but it does not make sense what the law makers do. For example earlier I was on about someone being docked being fired upon by the police, now in reality once those docking clamps are on. All the police would have to do is land at that base catch up to you wherever you are, and then arrest you. Tell the base not to release the clamps!

It seems the law is no more advanced in the future than it is in our time. Although let's face it we all need laws and their order.

You can get a fine for trespassing which is fine if you'll pardon the pun, for example, you done wrong, you can get a fine for speeding only if you kill someone or hit someone, and it matters not how much you speed. The law in the future is clearly inconsistent.

Last week I spent all my time balsting at 400 kms out of bases, and never got hit. Speed kills though as we know on the roads.

The law in this game is fine up to a point but it needs work. If you are going to make laws enforce them, and obey them yourselves, when it conceivably means you will kill others for no real reason.

End of the day though I fought the law and the law won. Someone should write a song about that. :D

Base scanning is inconsistent as well, you should be able to scan absolutely everyone who enters your base, after all it takes little time and you could have loads of scanners at the entrances or landing pads.

If you wanted to smuggle you would have to have some sort of dampening tech or use some clout, but smuggling on bases should be impossible without tech.

And let's not get started on a black market either because that makes even less sense, sitting around with loads of stolen or illegal cargo all day on a base that could scan itself a thousand times over.

And when I do get caught with 50 tonnes of narcotics they don't confiscate it so I make more money than the fine especially if it's a mission? Who says crime does not pay?

Pen and paper at most, simply because I am dyslexic and the names of various entities I can't remember and hence have to write down. Ironically I usually write them down wrongly too. But it has to be said if you need all that and no offence Elite may not be the game for you. Madre de dios!

Why can our nav systems pinpoint billions of stars, but we can only store 1 blueprint from an engineer?

Why don't we clone our exploration database before selling it to the highest bidder?

Why don't detailed surface scanners provide more detail about the surface of a planet?

Do you need those to play the game?

You mean there's more to the game than Elite Spreadsheet?

Balancing issues probably. Or some such.

You computer is hard wired and logged, with both hard components and soft ones that denote who and where you are, who you have sold information too. I suspect Big Brother is alive and well in the Elite universe. I like Stephen Donaldson's take on future ships in the Gap Series, the chips are impossible to edit and they store everything. Acces to the deeper levels of code is only available via strictly classified technology.

There's an Elite spreadsheet. :O

Whatfeindish devil made the docking stations in such a shape, you literally cannot tell the orientation of it when you enter a system so you have to spend a long time whanging around the station. It has to be some sort of evil only the Devil would invent, tell you what why not do away with buckmnster fullerine/football style station and just make it spherical, that'll really annoy the players.

I see someone has no experience with the forerunners of Elite Dangerous :)

I played Elite on both the BBC Micro and the ZX Spectrum. The stations shape is idiotic let's face it, always has been.

No one but evil incarnate would make a station that shape. It is the Devil's football. :p

Depends on what you mean by playing the game well as playing the game well is a Standard for each individual. Your way of going about it is your way of making the game more fun and easier to accomplish certain tasks. The ones who do not use those and only rely on the brain and the game itself are the true hard-core players. Save that I use some of the same stuff you just listed. However I would say the biggest question is this...

"Why does my ship only have 2 Hard Points?" I mean every ship needs at least 100. jk

But for real, I use ED-Trade, Notepad, and a HOTAS.

True each to their own. There is only one way of game and that's your own. Although some people would beg to differ. ;)
