This is just bad user interface design.

FDEV should rename "pause" to something like "game menu". Also, make that menu somewhat transparent so that is clear that things are still going on.

I don't understand the posters who mock somebody for trusting that an option would do what it says. All of us had to figure out at some point that "pause" does not pause.

It's amazing how these people do anything. I've been saying the same thing about a lot of people on here. How they get to these expensive ships and make such rookie mistakes is beyond comprehension.

But it's still OP's fault for not knowing that one can't simply pause an online gam... wait, what? Wth are you people saying now? Diablo3 can't be paused? Dota2, lol, stracraft can't be paused? Just because a game is played "online" does not, by any means, make it unpausable. That's... did you actually think, before typing that?

Now, MMOs, on the other hand. But I was under the impression that Elite Dangerous is NOT an MMO (NOT a solo game either, NOT a story driven title, NOT... etc.) ;)

Ignorance doesn't equal bad coding.

The game is supposed to be that way..because it is an online only (yes, even solo mode you are connected online and the world is persistent) there is no pause. Do I agree with it, not at all..I think the stripping of SP mode is ridiculous and especially since there is a solo mode..that is still not really solo blah.

It is completely baffling that they didn't rename pause though....I guess it is left over from when there was a solo mode... now I am kinda coming around to your side..if I was new and didn't know about solo mode being still online and all that, I would think pause means pause.

It's a backdrop setting; that's how it's built, and it's not a very pleasant place. Individual human life isn't valued very highly unless there's money involved. We're allowed by legal channels to purchase equipment that lets us hunt down and kill other people for money without a badge or a licence; or you can simply use the kit to live a life of murder and piracy. Slavery is an integral part of the Empire, and uprisings over it are brutally repressed. The Federation bombed a whole planet just to stop people from getting high.

Extinction avoidance and technological advancement have precious little to do with the morals and values of a human race a millenium from now after spanning thousands upon thousands of star systems.

Games now a days is to much handholding, picking up Ed and you actualy need to learn how to use the brain you born whit.

Having a big ship, or a high level character, or the best specced car in a game does not automatically mean you know everything about that game; but I suppose not everyone insta-learns everything about a game the second they drop 75mil credits on a freighter. Must be nice, being you.

Yeah, but I like carebears, holding hands is nice too :p

I don't like griefers but FD does and that is why they play as griefer themselves
or why else would that put in a function that says pause but is really NOT pause at all.
They like the odd ship destruction for no reason too. It's all griefing I say :D

Whatever you do, don't read the UI menu options, they lie.

That's true. Bad coding is incorrect UI labeling things that don't do what they say they do.
