This is a review I recently wrote and its a shame, it had so much potential and still does.

its funny, cuz its true.

Currently I can just set my target to where-ever I want, and I do not need to care nothing but my own flying. No need to get out of black. I can be deep in black for months.
Unfortunately, that is a consequence I do agree. But one if I was working Fdev would be making. It doesn't mean I would enjoy it, but I would be doing it because if the game is struggling as some people have suggested. I would be doing it to bring players back to the game, get it firing on all cylinders again.

Still, I don't get how your are forced to socialise with other players, if you play in solo.

No. Not it's not. In fact, it is demonstrably and irrefutably untrue. Neither game "utterly failed." In fact, both games were and are, one might even say, wildly succesful. Millions of copies solid. Hundreds of millions of hours of gameplay invested in each by millions of players. That is hardly "utter failure."

You may not like the game. You may think that it didn't live up to your expectations. You may even think there was squandered potential...and those thoughts and opinions would be completely and totally valid. As opinions...not truth.

The only "utter failure" here is for someone to just quietly walk away. I smell another entry in The Tome forthcoming.

do you think Odyssey was a success? a game that loses players, has dwindling sales, and a lack of meaningful content, shallow repetive gameplay....is how one would define a success?

S.C. isnt even a finished game, it isnt complete. you think a game that isnt finished and has been in development for a decade or more is a success????

It has, the dev's have completely failed to achieve what they set out to do. Powerplay is a failed bolt on that just doesn't quite fit, when it should have just focused on the BSG and the major factions introducing the consequence choice mentioned throughout this thread for join any faction and possible added game mechanic therein and the ability to join the Alliance or Independant factions. CQC is a failure due to the lack of lobbies and the inability to create competitive leagues, cups and competitions, Odyssey is apparently a failure from what I have in this thread.

The only mechanic that has greatly improved since release is mining. Yet they still refuse to fix the damn pirates randomly spawing in on you, regardless of how deep in space you are.

Millions of copies sold and how many players are left. So 99% of the elite community have stopped playing the game and somehow that's a success. Wow!!

Odyssey is not "a game." It was an expansion to the "game" Elite Dangerous, which has existed for many, many years before Odyssey. So let's clear that up first. Do I think Odyssey was a success? Eh...maybe? Ultimately, a year later, the games in a better state and I do enjoy the on foot stuff so for me, yeah. It rolled out as hot garbage, but was it an "utter failure?" Not at all.

I'm not going to argue with you. You're mind is clearly made up. Hey, you had an eight year run...so there's that!

Well.........I'm still having fun!
Nothing wrong with that.

And nothing wrong with wanting to make the game much much better than it is, bringing players back and getting Fdev to some hard-earned cash to hire some more peoples.

Really a game like elite, should be lasting like;
WoW
Eve Online.
FFIV Online

As well as many other great games. Despite being old now, these games have big big communities still, far bigger than Elite's. Eve online came out in 2003 and it's still bigger than elite. Why? Becasue the game mechanics, depth of gameplay and consequences of your action are there. Do I play it? No. Do I want too? No. Do I want Elite to as big as with it's 400 billion star system universe? Hell yeah

Elite dangerous, could have been one of these games, it still can be, but FDev are to scared to do anything about it.
Get consequence in the game, get the lore into the game, get a proper crime and punish mechanic that both rewards and punishes the player. It's valid play style, why can't player be pirates? Proper bounty hunter mechanics, career paths, faction progression, exploring, lets get some viable alien races in the galaxy, hostile and friendly.

Damn, this game had so potential.

I don't think players, journalists, Cloud Imperium Games and their investors have remotely the same idea of "success". Of course Star Citizen is a huge whopping success of $500 million dollars revenue. Without even delivering a product! If that's not a huge success, I don't know what is. Imagine Samsung doing that, or BMW. The CEOs would dance in the streets for hours. This may be one of the bigger success stories within the games industry.

(I'm not being sarcastic this time, sadly. The goal of a company is not to sell good products, not to deliver a game that a small number of people find enjoyable. The goal of CIG is not to deliver a finished product, but to keep the company alive, the employees on the payroll and to satisfy investors. From what I can see, they are succeeding.)

I think that is a bit unfair, I just think they do wanted to create the best game they could, they promised to much and allowed feature creep to set in. Rather than keeping it basic concentrating on core game mechanics first, then add features later, just not bodging this up like FDev repeatedly did.

And I hope they succeed, and I hope that FDev buck their ideas up and make Elite something special and succeed at it too.

It is to that 1% and they don't like people upsetting the 1% vision, happiness and line of sight because their flag is planted, and they will defend it to the last

I got a feeling Colonel Custer said something a little bit like that at the battle of Little Big Horn, before all went a little bit wrong.

So what happens if they change it so YOUR happy with it , what if others don't like it that way , do we go on the forum and get it changed again...and again..etc ,.
Anyone would think they have finished added things , or they gave up lol , all i say to that is...There's the Airlock...Thanks for coming....See you in another game sometime perhaps 07

I won't argue about PP or CQC; I've never tried them. But those pirates seem to be annoying you. The solution: ignore them. They don't do anything (they only appear when you first drop in, before you've mined anything, then they just moan that you're not carrying anything valuable and leave). Yes, they're poor for immersion, but they have no effect on play. I think they should be removed.
