This is how to do ship interiors..

There's so many ways the game could be improved but won't be. Anyways, they are busy trying to get this thing to run with acceptable performance on last gen XB and PS, and this will probably take them most of the year.
And, then they dumped consoles...
 
For me and me only consoles should never have been added from the beginning as it held up game play for the fdev’s I know frontier needs money for investment and all that and since interiors was part of the original game play I would love to see it in.
 
I have to say I changed my mind. It´s not that I suddenly don´t want interiors, that´s the one thing missing to make the game "complete" imo.
It´s just that the last thing Fdev should do is put any more strain on the engine.

Frontier have always with elite assumed that the playerbase is dumb and dumber and just wants to kill things. Maybe? is 95% of player activity in res sites and conflict zones.. it can't be. Even the people who chime in on combat ever since ive been around have been subject experts min maxing. Or at least its not the "wont buy without bullets" crowd.

Engine problems? Well apart from the fact they cancelled consoles if you watch the discovery scanners from horizons planet tech it seems to be very capable of managing itself when it wants to.. how else do they go from a pixel to landing on a surface without a loading screen? Surely a last gen lod model with some hooks for object placement could be managed? No idea.

Just checking in 2 years later.. any updates or progress?

Would the skeleton crew be working on anything else for once thargoid fps stuff is released?

Just looked and odd doesn't seem to have ticked off mostly negative yet.. maybe a new feature could do it.

Also just to put it out there.. karma, justice, and odd being objectively worse than horizons in changed areas aside.. update 14 was a pretty nice experience as the entrypoint to odd. Imagine if elite was frontiers only project and it meant more to them, id say its ripe for salvaging right about now. If only. Also sorry to the people who stuck around for 2 years and continued to buy arx. That's what star citizen backers probably feel like. Thank you.

Multicrew interior gameplay ideas:
  • Manual hull repair internally by patching
  • Module repair by patching internal location liked to module
  • Engine boost by focusing engine internally
  • Shield boost by focusing shield generator
… as well as all the fighter and gunner options, and srv and suits.

Take all the things that make Sea of Thieves great, and apply them to Elite.

I will say that the Odyssey updates seem to be giving players what they want as the steam charts ably demonstrate.

Personally I’m still waiting for ship interiors and earth like worlds and ship damage models because they were trailed as coming by Frontier and money changed hands on that basis.

Can I suggest stacking of cargo boxes in the cargo hold with a handheld tractor beam?

Possibly extend this to mining too, so once you've mined enough for a cargo container, run to the refinery module to manually move the box into the cargo hold, or bring a friend to do it for you while you are manning the lasers.

There is no artificial gravity in the Elite: Dangerous universe, which is why they don't have tractor beams.

Maybe you could move containers around using some kind of skimmer, with thrusters.

The lack of artificial gravity is one major reason why walking around in manoeuvering ships is not possible, you can't dampen the inertia so would get splatted against the walls and ceiling.

No-one promised interiors for money. It was just an aspiration, like space legs, which cost extra money when it was finally made and sold. There have been no promises for Big Game Hunting either, it was early talk about far future possibilities if the game went in that direction (which it didn't).

Well if it was completely full they might be okay..
Water is not compressible, which is why it's used in hydraulic systems for artillery etc, and also why being near an explosion underwater is so dangerous (depth charges etc) compared to in air... it's also why sound travels so well underwater (ask whales or submarine sonar operators). Getting a massive G-force (or any force) jolt in water would do you more damage than otherwise.

But even better, let us manipulate the cargo boxes manually and if we give them too much momentum and can't slow them down in time be squashed between the box and a bulkhead, bring back the dangerous in elite! Indeed if we propel ourselves with too much momentum and smash into the wall it could be either a rebuy or a reason to visit a medbay installed in a slot.

We could also ask for walking through the ship to synth ammo and then propel the ammo boxes to the various hardpoints to load the ammo. Imagine the joy of traversing the ship to reset the power plant and then make the tour around to power up the various ship systems! There really is no end of the immersive aspects we could have added to the game!
 
Because tractor beams are artificial gravity. Which is why they aren't in the game. Are you confusing tractor beams with teleportation?
Yes, thinking about it I suppose you're right, a tractor beam would most likely involve some kind of artificial gravity. Still there are so many inconsistencies that a bit of handwavium could surely explain away the inconsistency (especially for the cause of immersive gameplay like stacking boxes). I mean we already have magnetic trash and pizza boxes, magical glasses or magnetic liquids, commanders that don't die and are magically transported across the galaxy into a new ship, etc.

AFAIK we can already levitate objects using sound waves..

Thank you, always try to exceed expectations. What's new is being able to necro as well when the game doesn't change for years. Sad ratcatcher doesn't bite to my posts anymore though.

The servers are still running, what more do you want?

That's possibly narrow minded. Without the ability for frontier to profit from their work, any suggestion is invalid, so you should try and think about their angle always when kicking around ideas. When games were done for the art, that evolved away few decades ago? Especially with frontier. Elite is not about us, we're invisible to frontier, so can only dance around a bit and hope they're looking in our direction every now and again.
