Hardware & Technical Thrustmaster T.16000M FCS HOTAS official thread

Only recently learned of this HOTAS and it looks like it will be perfect for those who want full analog control on all the movement axes available in ED without being overly expensive.

I found it useful to give the throttle thumb hats names for me to verbalise when memorising my bindings: I call them "cone", "saddle" and "castle".

Technically, they are "conical", "winged", and "castle".

Heyup guys, qq, just got a T16000m for xmas, just the joystick atm, throttle is on it's way from xmas funds, but when I load up Horizons there is no T16000 preset to select in controls? I thought there was one in 2.2?

I can confirm that there is one when you connect both stick and throttle. In the meantime if you want to manually map the buttons, the trigger works as you'd expect, button 2 is secondary weapon and backs out of interface screens, 3 selects target in front of you, and 4 toggles through the fire groups you've set up. There are diagrams online to show you the rest of the buttons (on the base, though the keyboard is probably more convenient). The hat switch on the top routes energy among systems, engines and weapons.

The plus size is also that i dont see that quite annoying led at the base of the joystick. I dont know if that can be turned off from software somewhere, but i didnt download any software so i havent a clue....

Yes, it can!

It requires a small Philips head screwdriver, and pair of small wire cutters. Very effective, and I'm infinitely happier since I "turned off" the LED on my T16000M...

I got my T.16000m FCS HOTAS for Christmas and have been mostly happy with it. The accuracy of the flight stick compared to the T-Flight is a universe of improvement. My number one complaint is the location of the boost button and the reverse throttle button. These are way too close to each other and feel identical. I have found myself all too often slowing down when I meant to boost and boosting when I intended to reverse throttle. I'm sure I'll get the hang of the configuration eventually.

Big question: Does anyone know what size bolts fit into the mounting holes on the bottom of the stick and the throttle? I'd like to mount them to my desk to prevent slippage.

Yeah boost and reverse being too close is one of many reasons I don't like FD's default bindings for the FCS. Various of us have posted improvements earlier in this thread, easiest way is to search the thread for "mcdee.net".

I just watched Corpsealots review of the FCS and i gotta say, i dont buy those opinions of the throttle.
Maybe its because i have relatively small hands, but those pads at the back dont bother me at all. He said that they are too close to the buttons, i disagree.
They do feel a bit flimsy, i give him that.

And this has way better ergonomics than my old T-Flight, now i can use the throttle while my elbows rests on my chairs armrests, which wasnt possible with T-Flight.

Why don't you remap one of them?

just use blu tac :) works perfectly.. place in on the rubber parts on bottom of throttle and stick.. press down hard on desk and there ya go no need for screws :)

Just got one of these yesterday, so only had a few hours to practice and tweak bindings in a disposable sidewinder. I have a couple of questions on the throttle settings:

- Do you tend to use it full range, or 0-100% with a button for reverse? Im using the former to start with and find it hard to come to a full stop
- And connected to the first, ever since installing it I cannot come to full stop even if i use a keyboard button mapped to 0% throttle (+/- 4% seems to be as close as it gets)

Thanks in advance

Coming from the T-Flight Hotas X, I missed the zero throttle notch in the center dearly at first. I tried the sticky velcro trick but it didn't work well for me. So I remapped my controls to forward only with a reverse thrust button (I use the orange button on the throttle, pressed by the thumb). It took some getting used to it but now it works much more accurate than my attempts with full range throttle.

Forward only. I've never even tried full range with this HOTAS as without the detent I know I won't get on with it. I like the accuracy that Forward only provides, it just means I have to look down every now and again to check I'm in the blue zone, though I'm beginning to instinctively know where it is now. I don't use a button for reverse throttle but I use the uppermost hat on the throttle for vertical and forward/reverse thrust. Same controls for the SRV (reversing feels a little odd but just a case of getting used to it).

That's weird. Sounds like it's always receiving an input. Do you get the same when set to Forward only? Have you tried using the Windows game controller dialogue or the Thrustmaster control panel to see if the axis ever returns to 0? I'm not joking but have you tried unplugging it and plugging it back in? It should re-calibrate, although according to the manual it calibrates itself the first time you position the throttle at 0 and 100%. Have any other joystick related programs and/or device drivers installed (i.e. Vjoy etc.)?

I also came from the T.Flight X, and was used to a full range throttle. I did try with forward only and a reverse button (same one as you) to begin with, and while it worked Ok, I really preferred having full range. In the end, I have gone for the velcro indent (with a deadzone set in ED controls), and it works Ok, although I think I will end up cutting a small indent into the rails. This also freed up that throttle thumb button to use as a modifier, which has enabled me to be pretty much keyboard free with the exception of the galaxy map.

Regarding your not getting a full stop, have you tried setting a deadzone? That said, I never experienced that issue when I did use it as forward only, so perhaps a simple windows calibration will do the trick.

I am looking at the FCS, currently have an X52 Pro but more than a few les with it so considering this - anyone swapped to this from an X52, would be interested in your thoughts if have.

Thanks

Hmm Ill try forward only on the throttle and see how i get on.

As TinyPwny suggest the orange button on the throttle would be a sensible one for toggling reverse, but I have that set for FA On/Off which i use more often than reverse - perhaps ill try one of the unused buttons on the joystick for reverse.

As to the calibration and deadzone ill keep fiddling - my one weird thing on that is that Windows 10 doesnt seem to recognise either device is attached (though they work!)

Great to see the forum is still as helpful as it was - thanks all for your thoughts

Well, that is strange, as mine was recognized straight away, didn't have to install drivers or anything (which was how Thrustmaster indicated it would work).

There are drivers available from Thrustmaster that might solve your problem there. You can get them from here, and the release notes do say this:

Solves a problem with some accessories control panel not showing properly under Windows 10

Perhaps worth giving them a try. As I said though, I didn't have this problem, win 10 correctly identified both products as soon as I plugged them in.

Edit: That link is for the joystick, you'll probably want to download the throttle drivers too. :)
