Hardware & Technical Thrustmaster T.16000M FCS HOTAS official thread

So, my X-55 is finally unusable after a year of becoming unusable and 2 RMA's......I have the T.1600M with the throttle in the box ready to setup. I use voice attack Astra. Am I better off just using the default ED profile and getting used to it? When I switch profiles in the options will it screw up my voice attack bindings? Is there a place that has other profiles I can look at to see how others use it? I was hoping this would be a smooth transition but have my doubts :)

I'm basically using the default bindings for the Thrustmaster HOTAS. Yes, it will completely require you to setup of Voice Attack again if you use the bindings provided by Frontier. If you wish to avoid that, you might just be better off setting things up button by button in your current bindings as the default Thrustmaster HOTAS bindings clears out any keyboard bindings.

Check here: https://www.mcdee.net/elite/ - not sure if (and how many) profiles he has, but at the very least he's extremely useful in setting up your profile.

Great site! Thanks! So would you recommend that I load the default keyboard profile in ED and then manually add my T1600.M buttons on the right side? Using the reference sheet from that site would make it a lot easier. I figure adding the HOTAS buttons to the config would be a lot easier than adding the default keys to the T.1600 profile.

So I have it T1600 installed and working but boy does the stick have a difference feel from my X-55. Anyone have any tips on the setup to get started with. I have the yaw and pitch set to inverted and the roll to regular. I could barely pick up a canister with my scoop. Any suggestions from someone that may have came from an X-55?

When using Target GUI for curves do you need to reassign all controls after setting target up ?

The short answer is yes, as it presents as a new controller, although it does come with a preconfigured .binds file, which the Target software should populate for you.

I gave up with Target in very short order, as it combines both devices into one virtual device, meaning you then have at least one axis you can't use. DirectX is limited to eight per device. Not that I've used more than eight, as it turns out, but it feels like a waste not having that ninth one available should I find a use for it later.

I also found Target quite hard to get to grips with, not to mention that you seem to have to manually launch the profile before starting the ED launcher so I went back to using Joystick Curves.

I promised to add this last Tuesday so I'm a bit late.

To add a detent on my throttle I scrounged up six parts: two small screws and four spherical neodymium magnets of the kind that was real popular a few years ago and sold under the brand name of "Buckyballs". This is an invasive mod and will probably void your warranty. There are videos on YouTube that show how to disassemble the throttle so I'm not repeating that here ... I'm just going to show you the end result. It's amazing how much dust and dog hair shows up under the flash. I swear it looked perfectly clean when I was taking the pictures :)

Here's the location of the first two magnets on the throttle base. They should be located dead center on each side along the trench. The screws are simply used to prevent them from slipping into the case. Tape or hot glue probably would have worked just as well:

and another view from the inside of the case:

The remaining two magnets are inserted into each side of the shaft of the throttle itself, dead center both horizontally and vertically:

Reassembled the detent has a very nice feel to it. It doesn't quite lock into place like the Thrustmaster T-Flight HOTAS but it still feels quite snappy and I can find the center 100% of the time. There is and audible component as well as you can hear the moment where the magnets match up with each other.

For screwing the holes I simply used a small screwdriver. No need for power tools.

Yer I cant get TARGET to work it seems to place the same Axis for throtle and Jstick.

Also cant get Joystick Curves to work.
Wish Elite had a built in game settings for curves.
I seem to remember another space game has just done this.

In game curves adjustments would be a perfect feature for this game.

Any tip for Jstick curves ? When I install it all. Only one of the + things moves. so it seems its not actually doing anything.

Jcurves comes with more than one virtual controller (depending on which driver you used, this may vary. Mine has two). If you're not getting both cross-hairs to move, right-click the big green square and make sure you're displaying the same controller you selected from the virtual joystick dropdown box. In other words, if you're using Virtual Joystick #1, make sure this is what's actually displayed, not Virtual Joystick #2.

Once you have all that working, when you are ready to assign your mappings in ED, don't touch the stick (or throttle) at all. Select the axis you want to use in Joystick Curves and tick the "Virtual axis test loop". Leave this running and Alt-tab back to elite. Click the axis you want to map and wait for it to be detected. Go back to JCurves and untick the box. Wiggle the stick (or throttle) to make sure everything resets back to zero. Repeat for each axis you need to assign.

There's a really useful tutorial video in this thread.

I totally agree, having the curves built into the game would be a huge boon, as I would have one less app in my Startup folder. Last time it was mentioned to the devs they didn't see a need for it :S. Maybe a petition is called for...

I just checked that it was showing the correct virtual and it was.
Still not working though.

I would really like a curves in game :(

Did you try the other vjoy driver?

It wont install.
It asks for a reboot, then on reboot, does an install that asks for a reboot.
It loops like that.

The one that works is the headsoft one. (but doesnt have working +s in the joystick curves gui)
The one that does the loop is the other one.

i've same issue... throttle is working awesome but joystick not working properly... i send ticket to thurstmaster a week ago but still no answer. I've warranty i'll send back and i want my money back!

I hate the lower throttle hat switch.

Hate it.

Actually I hate ALL the hat switches. There's something about their sharp edges and odd placement that just irks me.

Sorry.. needed to vent. Better now :D

Forgotten about this thread--made a post about a fix I did for the TWCS throttle that I just felt I had to share in the main forum yesterday.

In a nutshell, I was not very happy with the movement of the throttle itself. Took a relatively large amount of force to get moving, but once moving it would slide too fast, making this very lousy at minute adjustments.

Last week, I was watching a tear down video of the throttle, and the reviewer mentioned replacing the grease with dampening grease would likely fix the issue I'm describing above. I decided to go with Nyogel 767A, which is a very good dampening grease, but you'll probably have success with any fairly restrictive dampening grease. The tear down video shows the throttle dissassembly, so if you're toying with doing this, I'd recommend watching.

I can say, after having done this grease swap out yesterday morning, the throttle response is AMAZING. It's like night and day from the old behavior, and you can make minute adjustments with ease.

One word of warning--it now takes a lot more effort to "slam" the throttle from one end to the other. If you didn't have your throttle already screwed down to a base, after this change you may need to. :)

Edit: oddly the time to start at querystring isn't being honored by the forum code. The interesting part of the video for this topic stars at 19:50, to save you some time.

This stuff is very difficult to find in the U.K. so if anyone can recommend an alternative it would be much appreciated. Would any of these be equivalent? https://www.moddiy.com/categories/Fans-&-Accessories/Fan-Lubricants/
