Time frames on pulling the plug?

Panther Clipper
a Lakon Long range Multi-Role BIG ship for exploring with a signature bubble cockpit, that doesn't handle like the Titanic
A Zorgon Peterson Large Pad ship, because I'm curious how weird that could get
A Gutamaya ship optimized for long range exploration
A Saud Kruger Bulk Freighter variant of all their ships, like Boeing do for their planes, Maybe Class 9 Cargo Modules
A Large Pad ship that can transport small pad ships (plural), even if just for a new 'Ship Delivery/Move' Game mechanic
Ships that can salvage all that Debris in USSs
A Medium Fleet Carrier with 1 of each pad, and limited outfitting options (Repair, Commodities, Cartographics, Vista Genomics, Ship Storage) and Longer Range (1k Ly), for Exploration
An Asymmetric Cockpit freighter, that can make .5 past lightspeed and do the Kessel run in less than 12 parsecs...
Big ships always handle like the Titantic. That's the point of them
Re. Gutamaya, they're a company that makes combat and multirole ships: "It specialises in producing combat and multipurpose ships known for their sleek, elegant designs, and is the primary supplier of ships for the Imperial Navy."
Re. Saud Kruger make luxury ships, not freighters

How would a large pad ship transport small ships to a system with only medium and small pads?

'I don't want to use that bit of the game, so they shouldn't develop it'
By that logic, they should switch off Powerplay, the Majority of players don't engage in it.
I don't care for FPS at all and never do that, but I don't begrudge those players that enjoy that part of Odyssey. I just like Odyssey for the Xenobiology and the visuals.
There is no everything game. It is pointless to wish for stuff that makes up whole other games. Games work best with their core ideas and not with something tacked on that has little to do with the rest. You wanna play a shooter, go play a dedicated one - you'll get more mileage. Wanna have the everything game? Look at Star Citizen and a decade of failure.

Considering how disconnected Ground from Space gameplay it is ridiculouse they even considered doing in in the first place. Odyssey was a failure in the design.
Elite Dangerous needs a reboot on a new easy going engine like UE5 so it doesn't take years to add something and than failling to deliver it at the end.
I think the plan is to try and tighten the disconnect between the two. Now Consoles and 3.8 aren't an issue, it means they can finally do more joined-up space and on-foot stuff.

As much as I'd like to see new ships I'm more interested in utility versions of SLFs (obviously they would be called something besides fighters), particularly a mining SLF with an abrasion cannon. Even if it could only be flown by a human and not an NPC crew, it would make core mining both more involved and less tedious, giving players an option besides trying to maneuver around and shoot the chunks with their giant ships. It would make a fun option for multicrew mining too.

Besides mining, some kind of shuttle that could be used maybe to dock at outposts from large ships, but with limited docking options, e.g. only allowing for refueling (maybe only partial refueling, as much as the shuttle could ferry back, like 1-2 jump's worth), contact usage (e.g. turning in bounties), mission board (plus disembarking).

I don't know if this was covered previously (TLDR, and I'm sleepy), but seems like as long as Braben is around his "oldest child" will be. But once he's gone... I'll set an example right here for you to ponder:

Braben; Now that the last of my cash has been loaded in to my boot (??), I'll be off then. tah tah! <sound of car door shutting, engine starting, then vroom vroom>
(Cut back to a conference room full of stuffy suits, tea and biscuits)
Accountant #1; OK, how much is Odyssey bringing in versus how much it costs to keep those servers running?
Accountant #2; murphlemuckbillta <gag> (mouth still full of biscuit)
Accountant #1; OK you are no help. Someone else, how much are we paying Sally because the community loves her so dearly?
Right then everyone shoves biscuits in their mouths so they don't have to answer...

See? so as long as Braben is around, all is good.

I'm off to bed now, my next missive will be AFTER coffee.

Hopefully I'll understand the next one.
Are you saying Sally isn't paid enough?

I'm pretty sure that Braben will put us, the forumers, in charge of Elite FDev when he'll retire 🤗
He has even already decided on the office plan.

Or less players, less profit, less Devs, quicker pulling the plug. New Gen consoles could have easily handled Odyssey, so them pulling out means they are more like to end the development and move to other projects. After all 8 years is too long to support one game, specially when you can't make DLC and expansions few times pr year like other MMO's.
Look how poorly managed ED Cash Shop. Lots of MMO this days release Cash Shop products on monthly bases now.
There's at least two further updates after this. The game very much isn't being pulled.

4k players isn't really that bad especially with p2p and no need to pay for bigger server infrastructure. I kept playing a game which peaked at around 1.5k players for years and it was enough to pay for servers, dev team and release new content. I'm optimistic but I'd rather see more DLCs and other content more often obviously...
