To anybody finding it difficult to adjust to the new lighting...

Check your monitor is not set to sepia or a hot tone if its available.

That's nice, but I was in Sol the night before the update, and the Moon was certainly not yellow/sepia like it is now. My monitor is not the issue.

Just asking if the brightness/contrast fixes suggested here will help with that...because..y'know..THE Moon isn't flipping yellow out in space.

OP is not suggesting to change your monitor settings. OP is suggesting to have a look at your game settings which you might have adjusted to fit the old lighting, settings which might not look so great with the new lighting.
Assuming your monitor is somewhat calibrated a reset to default could in some cases do the trick.

Where are the RGB settings (as the OP suggested changing them) in the game settings?

I don't play on PC so you tell me. ;) I was assuming he was referring to those fancy 3rd party ED tools which some of you guys use to alter the games gamma, lighting, colours etc.

I made changes based on the preview images. Turned my brightness way down and my contrast way up. Now it looks like it did before but way more realistic. The stars, the stations, the planets, the darkness, it's all now superb. If anything the lightning is softer and more theatrical. I went from deeply annoyed to deeply impressed, so keep fiddling until you get it, I'm sure you'll find the right setting. Mine didn't adjust the actual gamma though, just turned brightness down until the sky was close to black and then turned contrast up to see the background stars again. Perfect.

If only that would fix my dash lighting up blue like a Disney World show when exiting the mail slot (said slot being way behind my apparently transparent Dolphin), or the red haze I see in certain star systems that makes me think I'm suffering G-forces causing blood to rush to my head..

That's what I was asking about before.

I don't think I'll be changing any of my monitor/PC settings to suit a game.

Given that the game in question used to have perfectly adequate visuals and now they've got worse, I think it's perfectly obvious where the fault, and the source of any solution, can be found.

Except for some others, such as myself, the old visuals were not as good. So not adequate by that measure. I was using reshade and various adjustments in live, and the beta (not had a chance to try 3.3 for work reasons) was ideal for me. In stations light isn't right, but the rest of the game, excellent improvement.

On my PC this setting is no longer under "Change resolution".
Did they move it?

Nvidia Control Panel > Display > Change Resolution

Section 3 Apply the following settings.....
Desktop Color Depth
Output Color Depth
Output Color Format

and Output Dynamic Range

Those four drop-downs are not there for you? Hmmm, interesting.

Finding it really hard to adjust ot the lighting, as none stop Adjudication Errors and cant connect to anything, so if you mean the nice spinning orange cobra, doesn't look any different to me, anything else, cant see nada!

Guys, try the suggestions here and if you play on PC you can usually adjust games individually using the GPU profiles for the game. So you don't always have to mess about with monitor settings.

However, most TV's allow for different profiles also, so that is also an option, as indicated since some software settings on TV's can exaggerate some things a little too much, depending on the source content. So it might be an auto contrast or gamma setting or wide colour range etc.

The reason I also mentioned checking an RGB range setting is because now that Elite Dangerous has brighter lighting in general, you might benefit from switching to Full RGB range if you can run that setting, which could resolve a washed out look in some cases.

But all that said, my game looked somewhat washed out because of the old in game Gamma setting being too high. I turned it down by about 40% and it now looks perfect for me.

Thank you OP.
Changing the in-game gamma setting really helped!

I hope it helps a lot of people struggling to adjust to the new look. Some people seem to be having more extreme issues, however, such as being unable to read any text etc. As if there is too much saturation colour bleed or something happening

I for example have calibrated my monitor for all purposes, and to change the overall RGB (if that's what your'e suggesting) for one game is kind of silly.
If FD changes things around, they should include more color options in game (I haven't looked around the game settings for years, haven't had to).
I haven't had to mess with nvidia control panel for a looong time, do you know if it has game specific RGB settings?

Try reshade. :)

Is it possible the problem is that some cmdrs are using custom hud colours and are a little bit miffed its gotten a bit waky since the update ???
