To block or not to block... that is the question.

Greetings cmdr's.
Wen a player kills you do u put him on a block list ?

Does it depend on the reason why it happened... like powerplay ?
Or simply a griefer ?

From a roll play point for him you are dead... so it's only normal he won't see you again in the game. Even do blocking is not waterproof.

I wonder what the general opinion amongst the player is... o7

Oh... I forgot to mention... ( i am asking for a friend ) 😇

Playing in Open is both exciting and risky. Knowing that, I have yet to block a player in almost 3,000 hours (almost all in Open). Half the time I'll friend him but I'm a combat friendly type of guy. I even like to try a reverse gank once in awhile when I'm bored.

But that's just me. If you block everyone you are playing in solo at that point, so play solo. If I'm legitimately going to Deciat in a fresh ship with little to no engineering, I go in solo. If I'm looking for a fight, I go in open. It makes sense really.

I learn my lesson and move on. I wouldn't be in open if I wasn't ready for other players, fair or foul. I rarely see anyone outside of hotspots anyway.

Most of the time I am in a hotspot I'm flying some meme pvp ship to give them a surprise anyway. Like cruising along to farseer's in a shieldless diamondback that surprise surprise is actually full of reinforcements.

If I can glean some sort of reasonable in game context for getting shot at, I would not block myself, but to block or not, the choice is yours.
Some will say you should only block actual griefers, or not block at all, others, myself included, say block whoever you want for what ever reason you want, or don't. Do whatever you feel is best for you. The gankers don't care about you, and in return for their callous disregard for your gaming experience, you owe them nothing.

This comes up a lot... no offence to you cmdr...
But that quote would mean that every player is out to kill you so stay in solo mode.

And you all seem to be politicians... answer whiteout answering... do u block or not.
Not really. It means some players are out to kill you. You didn't give any context so it seems if a player kills you, it's egregious enough to warrant blocking them entirely. You don't have to stay in Solo, you can simply switch to Solo to get away from that player. If you want the open play, that's part of it unfortunately. But you're certainly free to block whomever you like.

I have played in Open and have been ganked and griefed a few times. I didn't block anyone. I only block people for being annoying.

I don't really block anyone, Heck, I hardly see anyone due to play time, time zones, etc.

At this point, if someone attacks me and they get the better, so be it. I'll never run out of re-buys.

I think the attitude of some players seems to tick off many, rude comms or really unsporting behavior, but then that's the world we live in.

The player I would block would be as described above. Just because someone is better flyer and is just a regular person, they win, a tip of the hat and move on.

Ye cats, this again.

OK, I play as a serious space pilot, doing stuff in this amazing 1:1 galaxy, flying my spaceship how I think a real pilot would. If someone tries to pirate my cargo or blow me up to claim a bounty, that's fine. If on the other hand they try to stop me playing to annoy me in RL and spoil my leisure time, I block them. My leisure time is too limited to be wasted on such idiots.

It's some time since I've seen a "Gankers exploded me" thread, but there are lots of these "Blocking" threads. I guess that shows Block is doing its job.

If you block other players, you need to keep in mind, that you are disturbing the already difficile instancing process. In a worse case you can not join a friend, because he is in an instance with an player, that you have blocked. Suggestion: If you want to avoid to be attacked by other players (that happens in reality only in a very few hotspot systems) you should choose a PvE player Group.

I don't know why anyone would block anyone simply for killing them in Open. If you don't want to get killed by players, solo/pg is thataway. If and when I'm in open, every hollow is a threat until it proves itself otherwise.

Of course, if they're being verbally abusive or any other thing that's against TOS, block and report to your heart's content.

I fly exclusively in open so far. Have been attacked/exploded plenty of times, and have won one PvP kill against a CMDR who attacked me in a CZ. Block remains unused for me.

My experience of people talking about block in-game always involves prejudice based on system chat. I.e. preemptive blocking of someone they dislike - seems an abuse of the function if they're not being harrassed as such. Given that it impacts instancing beyond just the two CMDRs involved (the weighting it applies decides who instances together out of everyone who could be in the instance, not just the blocker and blocked), many object to its use, or at least its design.

There's also direct evidence of people using it to circumvent defence/resistance in powerplay, while retaining benefits of open. Large pitched team battles involving pilots in more vulnerable ships, and of all ability levels, and more hardened PvPers in attack and defence of them are the most fun bit of powerplay for most committed players. Blocking in that context has a much higher chance of "breaking" instancing for the rest of the players there who want to be encounterable, not just the people exploiting block.
