To Solo Play Players: If You Could Disable PVP, Would You Play in Open Play Mode Instead?

This thread still going? Thought it would be time for a new PvP argument by now.
There isn't one. This argument has been going on for at least the 1980's when MUDS were the thing. It continued into MMO's and MMORPG's and will continue as long as those who play the games draw breath. New variations of, those who want to smash and those who don't want to be smashed, it is the same argument.

Why should they bother with open?
Answer: they shouldn't.
There is co-op gameplay advertised on the missions board. Hoping to get involved with that would be the major draw, however it doesn't seem to work with randos in open.
It does if you're part of a squadron, and it gets organised through the sqn chat. Though that isn't advertised and we all wind up doing it the long way.
Ditto Buckyball

It works with 99% of the randos in open, in 99,999999999999999999 % of the systems in this game.

The danger is vastly overblown.

Also "hunting other CMDRs" was advertised when I bought the game 🤷‍♂️

We've already previously established the "dangerous" in the game isn't the players since Solo exists as a mode, therefore it's not some design cornerstone that the entire game should be changed around. Just like if you play in Solo, the population of NPC's don't suddenly increase or suddenly get more "dangerous", either.

The problem is that keeping the "sandbox" nature of the game also prevents giving more depth to the game instead of ad-libbing the lore and systems by filling it with players.

It's like "Field of Dreams" where no one really shows up to play. They built it almost 10 years ago... and very few have come.

Likely with 99%, however the estimate of systems has too many nines after the decimal place as one system comprises 0.00000000025% of the galaxy. ;)

Meeting with those who aren't fun to play with, for those who don't share their idea of "fun", isn't fun - they're not worth the effort.

It was - then it was removed. Interesting that....

Does AX combat and CZ combat count?

Often.
With now 2000 hours and taking part in every hauling CG since may last year, there was ONE random cmdr that winged up with me to give me escort. That was when I remember correctly at the first Alcor Colonia Bridge CG. And outside CGs there are barely any cmdr's I could ask to do a wing mission (outside squadron and RP buisness partners).

I want to reply to the OP first post and answer the main question:

yes, if I could disable pvp I would play in open all the time.

o7

I play Solo or Private Group, and the answer for me is Yes, mostly. I would still do Solo for material grinding and for stations at CGs. (MacDonald station in Alcor was an insane traffic jam even in Mobius, in open it must have been like rush hour in Los Angeles.

"To Solo Play Players: If You Could Disable PVP, Would You Play in Open Play Mode Instead?"

I would not play in open and even now i dont play with others much in private. Just because:
1.: The game offers to little reward wise. There are no missions that need another player to finish it. You can have fun but with others but if you looking for rewards credits or materials, solo play is best.
2.: unbalanced PvP, people have different builds for combat, trading, exploring well u get it. If someone with a good PvP build ship attacks someone thats doin trading / exploring or just using an all of Jacks build, the PvP build player will most likely win this duell.
3.: PvP is waste of time. Its ok if you have 2 ppl that want to do it for fun, other ppl will only loose time in the thing they want to do. PvP gives also no rewards.
4.: My PvP experience from other games. Ppl tend to cheat if they can, using bots, aim bots, infinitive health, see and shoot through walls, buy in game items for real world money or other pay to win items just to get an advantage to win.
Actually i dont have fun or time for that, so i basicly just avoid Multiplayer if i can. However there are games especialy made for PvP / Mulitplayer play and thouse i play if i want to PvP. I liked the command & Conquer games or Starcraft for that. I think basicly because you start every game from zero and only with skill and tactics you win.
5.: PvP cost in game curency and time when loosing your ship, while it offers no real rewards.

The question of the OP was directed to solo players…. The answer choices were literally yes… or no. Seems silly this post generated 179 pages at this point.
I think the OP got shot down some time ago. This is more due to certain comments by an employee that ran contrary to the company line.
Said employee hasn't been seen since last year...

I agree with most of your points, but having done a lot of material gathering with a team mate, being in a two person team does have some benefits. Most materials have to be shared (but then again with two you can loot faster) apart from data, which you can both download. The real gain with a team comes with mission rewards, as you both get them. My team mate and I in the past have each taken a simple transport/salvage mission, shared it, gone away and completed it on our own and we get the rewards for both missions.

I still do the majority of my missions solo.

And when you think it through it becomes more apparent why people buy all these second accounts.
