Nah, people think Captain Jack Sparrow.Yeah thats true, but when people say pirate, they think skull and crossbones, Captain blackbeard style thing, and they were not cuddly folk.

Lol, you're probably right.Nah, people think Captain Jack Sparrow.
I really enjoyed Black Sails, which wasn't cuddly in the slightest.Nah, people think Captain Jack Sparrow.
Well state sponsored privateering would in some situations be feasible. We all ready have those Imperial and Federal ranks...In any case, the amount of pirates (NPCs) in the game is pretty ridiculous.. I'd imagine that there would be very few in such a space future, and if they made an appearance they'd be stomped on, and that very hard.. Possibly they could attack a few ships and/or overrun a small settlement, but once something like a galactic superpower found out, it'd probably end badly for the pirates and that soon (unless they hide very well).
Still a realistic future of transport and maybe the occasional war or planetary occupation, would make for pretty lame game play, not much pew pew at all..
True. I guess it's a nod to the original Elite. In an anarchy system, struggling towards the planet jump by jump, wonderng whether to use the last remaining missile this time or save it for the next group of pirates...In any case, the amount of pirates (NPCs) in the game is pretty ridiculous.. That's how it is in Lord of the Rings Online apart from a special PvP area too; it's much more civilised.Yeah, most times I played Open, I got interdicted by other players, clearly trying to grief me. So yeah, if PVP was an option but not a given would be nice. For example, in Star Wars: Galaxies, everyone played together on the same worlds, but you could challenge someone to a duel, which they could opt out of. I would absolutely play Open ALL THE TIME, if PVP wasn't a requirement. I'd love to interact more with other players, but right now it's just not worth the risk.
While I am really not trying to infer that you are lying, I still find this very hard to believe based on the anecdotal evidence I have and those I play with, plus some statistical data based on INARA.most times I played Open, I got interdicted by other players
Agree with you man this is pure fiction from scared playersWhile I am really not trying to infer that you are lying, I still find this very hard to believe based on the anecdotal evidence I have and those I play with, plus some statistical data based on INARA.
I have always played in open by default, and managed to do the rounds of all the engineers with frequent visits to Shinrhata, but not so many CGs, at least not at first.
In all that time (about 500h) I got ganked i think 4 times (must check the logs), and I almost always saw at least one player in system. BUT I don't count CGs, CZs, or Power Play, where attacking an enemy player has a role play element.
So, back to your statement "most times I played in Open" - even if I went to deciat every time I played I don't think I would instance with a ganker > 50% of the time.
The mysteries of open mode ...
Not scared of anyone mate, just doing CGs in open and dealing with idiots who think pad blocking and griefing is legitimate is a complete waste of my time.Agree with you man this is pure fiction from scared players
I totally get this, it only takes a few bad encounters to realise that if this does not offer anything fun for you, why should you keep exposing yourself for that? And this is core of the issue, those players who thrive on doing PvP against other players, will make open more empty by doing that. because players get more aware that they are now going to a "hotspot" and thus, they avoid going there in Open. so they might be still be playing 90% of their time in Open, elsewhere, but avoid it when it comes to these known "hotspots"Okay, maybe I exaggerated. Still, I very rarely played Open, and it didn't usually work out well. I remember one particular time when I got interdicted over and over, another time that I got destroyed, and another where someone was blocking a landing pad on an outpost, making it impossible to land.
Not to say I won't try it again, it's just that it makes me nervous.
