To Solo Play Players: If You Could Disable PVP, Would You Play in Open Play Mode Instead?

I remember hearing long gone voices years ago warning the gank crews what would happen if they could not keep themselves and their compatriots from murder hoboing their way across the stars. They did not listen, and it happened.
Not really long gone. A lot of us are still around, watching and waiting. ;) I've never put all my eggs into a single basket, and this game is no exception.

I'll just drop this here...

Also don't be like these guys :)

In a multiplayer game you yourself should be the "gankstopper", not the hand of god.
Well say I have mission to certain system. At my destination I'm interdicted, and gank attempted. I run away, high jump. Now I need to get back. Do I want to waste my time for second gank? Do I want to pay fines for abandoning mission. Well I can menulog and change to solo. And just give my ganker wannabe second chance somewhere in future to waste my time again. Or I can block him, jump in again, and deliver my mission. And never be meeting said ganker anymore.

To make it simple, I'm not too keen in being used as unicum feeder, I play for fun not for being bullied by the game specialists, more to the point I'm too old and slow to be coimpetitive so no, definitively not encline to play Open and get ganked all the time, an experience I had with Eve Online and I didn't like it a bit.

I Might consider this option in DCS as I have a lot more experience of aviation, including stick hours and good knowlege of aerodynamics, so flying as part of a wing mission would be a lot easier for me, but in space-based games no.

On the other hand I'm planning in joining the Fuel Rats at some points but that's another aspect of the game...

If it was a PvP focused multi-player game then I'd agree - however, while PvP is possible it's not required in this game - it's an entirely optional extra (because other players are optional) that no player needs to engage in to engage in any game feature (except CQC, of course - but that's out of game).

Yeah, there are a lot of nutters and screwed balls online...
It is what it is unfortunately, some people take games way too seriously, and go completely ballistic over the smallest inconvenience.

I remember doing a dungeon back in wildstar with some randoms. We wiped 1 time and some guy immediately started throwing obsceneties and left the group.

You see it everywhere unfortunately, you just Block, report and hope the banhammer swings down swiftly. And I truly hope those two examples in the screenshots got dealt with swiftly.

If there was no Solo plus blocking not affecting instancing, ED would bleed players which in turn would make ED financially unviable which would mean FDev dropping it.

Ganking/Griefing with impunity kills games because it prevents a healthy playercount growth/replenishment.

Limitless open world PvP is an unsustainable niche because it's casual-hostile.

you know why Solo and Block exists. Don't cut it out of context. If it wasn't for that functionality, the game would already be dead.
Actually Solo existed from the start, not as a response to ganking, and it's a good thing too: a large part of the player base seems to be here for the single-player experience.

I think people get misled by the superficial appearance of ED as an open-world game. You see this in everything from the gankers' "I should be able to explode everyone", the PvPers' "I should be able to see who is working against my BGS" and the PvEers' "Mobius is empty, why can't we get wing missions done?"

Actually ED is a single player game with opportunities to meet some other players bolted on. Once you realise this, the single galaxy, modes, P2P etc. all make perfect sense and look like good decisions. Meeting those other players may, if you're lucky, just happen. More likely, though, you need to set it up using friends list and PG.

All the salt is from people who think the game is, or should be, something other than what it actually is.

On the other hand I can understand players getting upset when ganked, one of the reasons I don't play Open in this game is that I consistently kill targets, I don't gank but I go after bounties, pirates etc.

I can't imagine killing 16,563 players in a few month just to get a ranking in a game, Bots don't get upset, those games are often more than a game for some players, like a way to escape, create a bubble just to enjoy the game and of course another human being busting it is not really welcome...

@ VR Murgle
In some games players have to pay a premium, often spend real money just to have a competitive equipment, naturally this bullies mentality became the norm, it doesn't mean it is normal, some games calls for greed and often for reality denial, the bullies refusing to admit that they became part of a system where their role is the norm.

I wonder how many players in this game are actively trying to protect the traders or miners and go after the pirates and gankers, your answer might be a clue, if going after pirats and gankers doesn't work in Open, then I made the right choice, and that's why the only way I'll play Open will be as a Fuel Rat...

Here is what I managed in 16 weeks and 4 days.
