Too Hot to Walk... or is it?

I found out something yesterday that I wasn't aware of: There's an absolute limit on what temperature on a landable planet allows for you to go outside and stretch those Space Legs.

Deciding to test out my Space Legs, I decided to land on the first planet I could land on, and get out and explore. Let me introduce you to Ross 720 1, a quaint little planetoid with 1.22gs of gravity and is a zippy 7ls from Ross 720. Nice little white speck of nothing in the middle of space. PERFECT for stretching my space legs out on. So I find a nice little wreck from my DSS, and head towards it.

After a almost perfect Roswell landing, I decided to crank up the shields and let the auto-dock computer land the ship for me on the ground. HEY, did you know docking computers help land on planet surfaces now? It's very cool.

Now, I wanted to get out and explore, with it all nice and bright. And the computer told me no. What? Seems the system was like "YOU CAN'T DISEMBARK". Which is weird. So I took the SRV out. Fine. Okay, now the SRV, totally okay with being out in the sun. But it wouldn't let me disembark from the SRV either. It seems Ross 720 1 is an average temp of 696 kelvin. That's just under 800 degrees F, or 423 degrees C. So, pretty hot. But that's the average. In the sun, it goes up to like... almost 50% more. Okay, maybe it was just a bit too sunny for me.

Then why was there 4 pirates wandering around the crash site of a Danger Rating 1 in their space suits having a fun time? Do NPCs have special super cooling suits? Do PCs get the option for super cooling suits? Because after I gun them down the SRV dual repeaters, a dropship shows up and dumps 4 more guys onto the surface of a planet, that again, is almost 1200 degrees F. But these guys are just fine, because they may have SPF 1,000,000,000 sunscreen, but repeated SRV cannon shots aren't as impressed.

So, do the NPCs have super cool suits, or do they just not care about how hot it is out? There were crates that had padlocks on them just waiting for me to get out and retrieve the goodies, but for some reason, the sun is a deadly laser to me but not some scavengers.

I'm not mad. I'm just curious.
