Ships Type-10 Released!

The Type-9 is not dead people lol You will still see it used by players in game for a long time to come, but if it makes you feel superior and special to say its dead forever and will never be used by anyone again then thats fine. Doesn't change the reality though.

Its like this on any gaming forum anywhere.

*Insert item here* is released.

I can't believe they released X this way!!! X is terrible!

No way you are out of your mind X is AMAZING!!!! In fact X is better than Y so now Y is useless!

No but I like Y. X is good, but Y is still good!

Nah man X is the new hotness!

Wash rinse repeat for literally any game ever lol People on game forums will always act like their opinions are facts. Its practically required.

Actually, Frontier just need to add Panther Clipper, which was always going to be the top trader (1000t) and add a second class 7 slot to type-9 to improve its value. This also then creates a good range of cargo options. Type-10 is the brawler with trade potential, type-9 has stonking capacity for the price (never mind that it's not rank locked) cutter gets it there in style (with rank lock) and panther clipper is the hard working top tier trader.

Type-9 is a great ship, but cannibalising the Panther Clipper (which would not be ranked locked iirc) because that's just more convenient, now, really is a daft thing to do.

I have a feeling that the Panther Clipper is going to end up being rolled into one of those "Carrier" type ships that Frontier is talking about for the Q4 update. After the concept art from years back they've been incredibly silent about it, and its existence is more an idea on the forums than a reality.

I think they will end up doing this as well.

Which would be a shame, but the fact we now have 3 new ships announced, and one of them already out and not a PEEP about the Panther tells me they either backlogged it or it has been re-purposed.

Maybe. But PC was still intended to access the mail slot; and unless we get a whole new class of docking facility for large ships (a bit like the structures around capital class ships) that's highly unlikely as carrier grade ships sound like they will be essentially player equivalents of a capital class.

Therefore, much closer to something like a Majestic Class Interdictor, and the Farragut in scale? Whereas the PC is more likely to be a Large pad ship. Who really knows, though. But the PC is the effective 'top end' from a capacity standpoint, and this was true from very very early on in development.

I think perhaps Frontier aren't quite sure how to deliver that capacity? Whether to have it as a Large ship, or the first 'carrier' grade which may be much closer to the capital class. I'd like to see it as a Large ship though. I think having that broad range of capacity options (much like we now have a fairly broad range for combat) would allow people to find the ride that works for them, and something to work towards as well.

Nah.

The carriers will be boxes will landing pads on them, stapled to a gravity ring, that will be available for purchase by Squadrons.

The Panther should be the biggest, toughest, slowest whale of a ship in this game or any other, that can be purchased by individual Commanders.

Such a funny thread, all the lovers and haters. This ship, unannounced, not in the list, not in the lore, seems to me a great addition to the fleet for Thargoids. Ye don't like the spoiler? not enough of this or that? TO BAD. Go max this ship out and it is indeed the premier addition to the game. THX FD.

I just imagine an ENORMOUS Beluga sized Box that takes up the entire large pad lol

So far I'm liking the ship. I traded in my Imperial Cutter for it, and while it doesn't have quite as much going for it as the Cutter, it's a lot cheaper, and more accessible for people who want a cargo transport with some teeth.

There are always protests. But I like it. Type-10 will be a fun excursion to see what the potential is. THX FD indeed. The PD is unfortunate, but we can't have everything.

I'm with you so far. It is quite likeable

Aye.

Well, I'm not really sure what to make of it, overall.

In it's own right, it's.... okayish.
Trouble is that it doesn't really stand up to comparison with the alternatives.

I'm guessing that FDev's plan was that people could fit AX weapons to it, go and fight Thargoids and then also fit regular weapons for self-defence.
It would work just fine like that.
Whether it'd be better, or cheaper, in that role than an Annie or a Corvette is debatable though.

In regular combat it's... okayish.
Trouble is, any ship with those hardpoints is going to "okayish" in combat and we already have ships that are better than "okayish".

As a multirole it's also... okayish.
Trouble it, to make it notably good at any one thing requires that you bias the entire build toward that thing, which means that it ends up sucking at everything else.
You want combat, you're going to have to fit a big shield, and probably an SLF, which are going to put a dent in your cargo capacity while shield-boosters are going to require a big, expensive PP and put a dent in your jump range.
You want cargo capacity, you're going to have to do without a big shield and more modest shields really don't provide good results.
You want to maximise jump-range and efficiency, you're going to have to de-rate a bunch of modules and then you can forget about fitting decent weapons or shield-boosters.

About the only thing I can see it being used for without any regrets or compromises would be as a direct replacement for a T9.
Buy one, D-rate everything except the FSD and PP, fill it full of cargo racks and a modest shield, forget about weapons and utilities, fit the smallest A-rated PP possible and treat it as a T9 with a 35Ly jump-range.

It's not that it's especially bad at anything.
It's just not especially good either. [where is it]

So what you're essentially saying, is that it's not an Anaconda; so it's a bit rubbish because it can't do everything at once like Anaconda can.

Also every single thing you listed, "if you do x, you have to compromise y" is literally every ship - apart from Anaconda. That's normal, though, for anything that isn't Anaconda. If you focus one aspect, others are impacted. I'm not sure what people were expecting.

And people think I am a little weird for suggesting HEY MAYBE FIX THE OUTLIER if you are going to introduce compromised ships forever.
