The Anaconda is great but other ships excel it for core gaming roles:
* For exploration I think a reasonable argument could be made that the Asp Explorer is a superior exploration ship than the Anaconda. I consider the Asp Explorer to be superior.
* For bulk trading the Imperial Cutter is better than the Anaconda.
* For combat the Anaconda is really good but so are many other ships. This area of the game is the one I am least familiar with but it sounds like the FDL, the FGS, the Corvette, and the Cutter are competitive depending on the situation?
* If you are part of the Narn school of mining the Corvette is probably a superior miner to the Anaconda?
* Where the Anaconda does really shine for me is missions. Mixing cargo and passenger missions and looping through allied systems this ship’s famous flexibilty really shines here.
The Anaconda is competitive in all these roles however, but I don’t know if makes it unbalanced.
1) Anaconda still holds the largest jump range (even past the AspX) and it has a lot more internals choices available to it as well as being more survivable.
2) Cutter also costs a lot more than an Anaconda, and is rank walled- the amount of cargo is negligible in comparison when you consider those factors alone.
3) People don't typically buy an Anaconda for straight combat- they buy it because it's survivable in combat. Big difference here.
4) Haven't mined too much let alone in an Annie or a Corvette, so don't have an opinion here.
5) Anaconda multiroles really well, that was the intended purpose- the problem is that it outshines almost every other ship in that aspect as well as its mass/weight/size ratio being severely imbalanced.
Yes, it's imbalanced... and people saying "it's foin" aren't kidding anyone.
I'm also sure FD is quite well aware of it, they're probably just trying to wrap their heads around how to nerf it without causing massive whine threadnoughts.
Sure, it's always easier to lock the door to begin with than to lock it later- but the damage has already been done and now damage control is in order.
Hey here's an idea... if people want to keep it lightweight and all, FD can just hardcap all the base resistances on the Anaconda to 10% to compensate. Then no matter how much engineering you add, it's always going to be brittle as hell to make up for that mass balance issue. I mean, if it's made of carbon fiber it has to be "brittle", right?
Cue the "This is why we can't have nice things!!" "#DONTNERFMAHCONNIE!"
