Type 6 - To boldly go

T6 is an amazing exploration ship, way better than a Cobra. Now I'm on Cat's Paw Nebula (aprox 6.000ly from Sun), with no more news than a small 2% slip with a neutron star...

It can handle itself pretty well in combat against NPC's at least. I have a fully A rated Type 6 and it's sent a few NPC pirates to the afterlife. Almost every Eagle I have encountered, except one that got away into SC, a few Vipers and a couple of unshielded Cobras and even a Clipper, (only because it had a novice pilot or I would have run from that one). With A rated thrusters, the Type 6 is surprisingly agile.

What do you equip it with? I'm currently unarmed (for jump range as I explore) but would like to kit it out as best as possible when I get back. Gimbled Beam Lasers? Rail Guns? I tried turrets but honestly those seem to miss more than they hit, especially if you're moving.

When I get back I'll hopefully have enough exploration cash to buy an asp, but there is no way I'm getting rid of my T6. Hell, if any decent skins come out for it, I'll be buying one of those for it.

I was going to get Asp next and start doing 1000+ ly trips, but decided instead to get another T6 and rig it into long range missions. Apparently a viable idea :) Saves also a bob.

About two mils, a high tech system and off I go with T6e ("Kirsty") while another stays stored for trade runs once I get back.

I have splashed out on an Asp for my latest exploration trip. My trusty old T6 is sulking in the hangar... I feel guilty already for leaving her behind!

Off the back of this thread I am grinding to fit out my T6 as an Exploration tub. My aim is to have it largely fitted out and ready by bedtime Sunday!

I am away from my PC all next week so my plan is to set out into the great unknown next Friday night.

Since buying the T6 I too have given a swift lesson in manners to a cheeky Expert NPC in a Sidewinder.

Loving my T6

Good luck man! I'm some 2k out from Sol in my T6, staying clear of the nebulas, at least until I'm fairly close to one you can actually go into. I was close to the pencil neb but I was a bit dissapointed.

Cheers Cmdr. I am heading for a star 13,613 LY from my current location. I intend to go directly there and then work my way back to civilisation.

Stay safe on your own journey.

Flying happy

Jon I AM SOOOOO pleased you are inspired to get out there in a T6 - I promise you won't regret it :)

If you do I WILL pay your costs

Mossfoot - elite killers in a T6 - what ever next ;)

Just a quick update - 8,700 LY out from Sol, hull still 68%, canopy still chip free

I am now plotting my route via neutron stars. Out here in the barse end of beyond they are not 10 a penny, 100's of LY's between them, they kind of make a nice route plotter, almost the equivilant of nice hotels dotted out on your GRAND tour of europe. they are a focal point but not the REASON you are out here.

I am in a very unfashionable part of the galaxy at the moment, I would show you if I could only work out how the map and plotter works!
I have some nice photo's of me and a couple of conjoined water worlds and me with my latest new holiday country retreat earth like world - I will retreat into the T6's dark room and develope a few of the more romantic pics later today,

Anyway - signing off

Happy exploring..

It's still dark out here and I am still very alone.......

Currently on my way to Sagittarius A* in my kitted out T6. I'm in the Traikoa FL-P e5-4 system at the moment, which contains a black hole and, what is supposedly a black icy planet. Unfortunately, I can't post embed images ATM, but if you're interested you can copy and paste the non-hyperlink link below into your browser address bar. :p

Only another 20,000ly until I reach my destination. :)

Ripster, fear not. Whilst a very generous offer, that's a promise you will never have to cover. There will be no regrets in this neck of the Galaxy.

The T6 is a surprisingly nimble ship. I accept there will be readers of that sentence who are sceptical but I urge you to try one on for size. I am wondering whether or not it is worth putting together a variant for a spot of cheeky bounty hunting. The ultimate Deception. Pulled out of SC as a helpless Trader...the tide is turned when my Beam Laser strips the attackers shields and a missile salvo blows him/her away...to dust.

Lovin' it.

You are flying the T6 and not smoking it ;)

GOOOOOO t6 :)

I've found this thread at just the right time.

Just the other day I was doing some outfitting on my T6 when I happened to glance at the "Unladen Jump Range" (which I usually ignore) and saw that it was already at >27LY's and thought "Hmm, that's not too bad, has anybody thought about using the T6 as an exploration ship? or does it have some limitation I'm not aware of.". I poked around the forum for a while but couldn't find anyone using one as an exploration ship until this thread came to my attention.

Thanks to the OP (+rep) and the inspiration of the other posters here I'm going to outfit my T6 today and trade my way to the edge of civilization (my home system is only about 100LY from the edge) and then downgrade to a D shield and dump the lasers and head out into the unknown.

I'd like to drop the shields entirely but the NPC interdiction rate is so stupidly high now that I'm sure that I'll take damage or get destroyed either outbound or coming back through the P-barrier (the ~500LY zone past civilization where there's still NPC Pirates, which makes no sense what so ever).

The jury rigged repairs coming in 1.2 should be a big help to explorer's and I should get to the edge about the time it's released if I take the "econo" route. I might consider taking along some extra equipment that doesn't add weight that I can cannibalize for spare parts as well as bringing along a powered down repair module.

See you on the other side.

A number of people refer to it as the Twilight Zone, before you reach Big Sky Country (no NPCs) ;)

Check out my Explorer Lingo if you like ;) https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=116536&p=1809874

I'm just coming back from my latest journey - Went out about 6000LY on the Norma Arm, circled around to the Statue of Liberty, now heading back to Sol. Hope to buy an ASP with the money I made... but it's hard to know if I made enough (Scanned maybe 700 places extensively)

Good luck out there. As for the shields, it's a good idea to have basic shields anyway - you never know when a different kind of accident might happen. Maybe you're taking a beauty shot in an asteroid field and bump into a big rock. Better safe than sorry.

I managed to get 28LY out of mine, though I know you can go over 30 if you really want to go bare bones.

Welcome to the Void, Cmdr.
I know you have made a great selection with your T6. As you plan your journey, it would definitely help me (and others, maybe) if you could share your thoughts on an "Explorer" load out? I am using the ED Shipyard App as a starting point but like others, I won't be a slave to its output. I want to retain certain modules and features...just because I don't to fly without them, or won't accept a lower performance level from the ship. It would be good to read your thinking.
I am confident that you will reach far out into the Galaxy with your T6.
Send photos!

Flying happy

Jon
