1) As we all know, the non human relic was found in the 2280s. This was in the same time period as Mars was succesfully terra-formed.

From timeline:
2170s - First attempt to terra-form Mars started.
2200s - Earth environmental recovery program started, terraforming of Mars abandoned.

2270s - Second attempt to terra-form Mars started.
2280s - Discovery of first non-human relic in space. Origin still unknown in 3200.
2290s - First man "outside" on Mars (ie breathing unaided) on completion of terra-forming.

2) In the wings trailer, CMDR Ishmael has a busted canopy and only a few minutes of oxygen remaining. Still he seems confident about bringing his UA to Leonard Nimmoy station, some 600+ ly away.


3) (the silly bit) In the movie Total Recall (from 1990), Douglas Quaid (Arnold Schwarzenegger) discovers an Alien artefact on Mars. the Alien Artefact is a turbinium reactor that will create a breathable atmosphere for Mars when activated.
The bad guys don't like this. They have monopoly on air for Mars. Arnie kills them all, activates the Alien Artefact and they all live happily ever after (on Mars).

Theory: In the early 1990s when FD was planning the story line for FE2 and FFE, they were inspired by the Total Recall artefact. Terra-forming is alien technology, extracted from the 'non-human relic'.
The UA is the same thing or has the same function as the relic. It saved CMDR Ishmael by restoring his atmosphere when he ran out of oxygen.

The name Aoishe Quaid, is a subtle hint towards the movie.

Test: As I already have a broken canopy on my T6, I can simply let the oxygen run out and see what happens.

Problem: What if I need something else in my cargo hold for this to work? I'm thinking basic minerals, as this was the only thing you could find in the California sector in 1.2.

I'm open to suggestion, as this will most likely kill me.:D

And don't forget, the 3200 above was updated to 3300 in the new official timeline on the FD site. Possibly coincidentally around the time of a certain podcast. I wouldn't want to be accused of presenting a theory as fact or anything.

I would never forget that :)

Unknown origin does not necessarily mean unknown function dough.

Perhaps there are those that knows what it does.

hmm reading more of it I did find Cthulhu arrived on earth from the star xoth= maybe sirius or both related to Sothis
