Anyone else interested in a tin foil ship skin? We need protection out there in the black!

On a related note, I have been thinking about submitting an idea for the inclusion of accessories in the upcoming character creator:

TARGET SYSTEM - See Shouty Bit Below

So.... Questions? See the claptrap below.

What's an Operation: Biscuit Barrel when it's at home, then?
Forged in the RNG fires of UA Convoy hunting... well, I say fires and I mean exceptionally frustrating countless hours of wading through cosmic nothingness without so much as a sniff from a Snotter, but you take my point... The Barrels were devised as a simple if extensive way to compound UA Hunters' efforts and concentrate them on one system at a time. Reasoning being, if it took one UA Hunter 100 hours to find a UA Convoy, it would take 25 UA Hunters 4 hours. Wishful thinking you may wish to think but it works when prowling the hinterlands of the desolate RNG mathscape. That and nobody needed to run into a UA Convoy alone after, say, 82 hours camped out in Timocani only to fail to snag the swag and have to start all over again. Only with much more swearing.
Simply put, one shows up to the targeted system, wings up with sciencers of similar intentions upon a successful heist and then does great stacks of staring into the abyss until it starts squinting back. You sit in supercruise at near-zero speed, eyes peeled, ignoring everything but Strong Signal Sources. You drop into all SSSs you come across and... golden rule... If it ain't the right kind of signal source, sod it, bug back out to supercruise and drop into the next one.
Not the sort to run from a fight? Put it aside for a Barrel. You'll be wasting your time and potentially leaving your wing a ship down when a wingmate scores a hit. This isn't a CG kind of deal. We're going for cooperative precision and not hurried bulk. In point of fact, going for the kill during a heist can actually jeopardise success; get in, get it, get out, drinkies back at the Skinful.
Why are we going after UA Convoys again?
Well, we is and we ain't. We'll also be camping out for Medical Convoys. Hopefully, we'll run into a UA Convoy - perhaps with some new comms chatter to digest. Unless they've changed, the UA Convoys and Medical Convoys are made up of different ships and wings will likely wish to have slightly different approaches in heisting them, though the bottom line is much of a muchness of sameness.
Spot one, call your wing in, Blockers take out the shields on the freighter ship and attract fire also from the escorts. Blockers or a semi-Blocker Scooper slaps some Hatch Breakers onto the Cargo Hatch. Goodies spill out while the Blockers take a pounding, the Scooper earns their name, everybody back to the bar for a pint.
Note: it is a good idea for the wing's designated Scooper to drop from the wing throughout the actual heist so as to be freer to scoop without attracting some stray or non-Blockered pew pew attention while doing so.
We may well run into Hafnium Convoys, too, but I don't see a pressing need to do much more than ignore them upon doing so and just get back to supercruise prowling. (However, again, any new comms chatter would be dandy to find.)
Six Hours? That's a bit of a long time, isn't it?
No argument from me there, mate, and they used to be four hours but it does put wide enough a crack in the day to shove in plenty of commanders to shore it up per different timezones and RL commitments. Sadly, it still pretty much guarantees an absolute absence from the Southern Contingent. (No, not Sussex.)
Will you be giving orders on the day?
Nope. Only coordinating as and where commanders need it. That Squadron Leader Powell bloke? Doesn't exist. I may very well drop from full wings here and there to allow arriving commanders to more easily slide into participating but, no, I won't be barking orders. It's just not in keeping with the style of these Barrels. They may get fighty and some paramilitary RP is always suitable but it's not a substitute for some kind of "The Canonn Goes To War" exercise. (That said, I believe such exercises are a-brewin' for the future.)
We're Sciencers. Isn't this just barefaced piracy?
Ah. Awkward question but a valid one and Tams has just passed me this to read from the bureaucrats back on Thompson...
The Canonn Council of Varati does not condone nor provide support, either moral or material, to the activity of pirates. Allegations to the contrary of this resolute position are scurrilous and if that despicable pig-man Nicholas Pow... hang on a minute! Tamsin! You said this was.... What do you mean, I'm supposed to just read it? Oh, very well, but your Xmas bonus is still to be decided, my girl... Ahem... Yeah, here we are... And if that despicable pig-man Nicholas Powell - who no longer occupies a seat on said Council - should yet again attempt to mobilise support and enthusiasm for what amount to piratical heists upon the sovereign vessels of other system's navies then he is a scum-sucking pig of the highest ord... Alright, that's enough, I'm not reading the rest. Tamsin. Get the Varati Ministry of whatever-it-is on the blower. What do you mean, we don't have any dirt on them? Everybody's dirty. What? Eh? So? So what? I don't care if the head honcho is a spinal fluid-donating orphan-adopting vegetarian who operates a soup kitchen out of their own house. Find something on him. Eh? It's a her? Her, then. Who? Oh. Her. Bloody Imelda Spetch. Great. This is about not calling her back ever after that anti-slavery rally and the... er... you know, hotel and that... Great. Stop laughing. Xmas bonus, Tamsin, Xmas bonus... Yeah. Much better.
You know what? Sod this. Where was I? Next question.
Will we be using Teamspeak?
We didn't have the Gnosis for the other ones but for BB4 we shall be making use of it. Yet, to be blunt if however respectfully so... It won't be much use as 'TeamType' during the Barrel. It's understandable that some commanders might prefer to converse through text over TeamSpeak from time to time and in its general use I can't see that as being a problem. Certainly hasn't been to date.
But the thing is, during a Barrel it is essential that commanders can spend as much time as possible keeping their eyes glued to their Left Panel and forward view for Strong Signal Sources. Overwolf might mitigate things a little but... weeeell, not so much that feeling you should be typing back at somebody isn't simply best avoided entirely. Typing is still a distraction and therefore a detraction from our chances of success. Best to keep purely text comms to in-game text with wingmates, really, and leave TeamSpeak for the largely hands-free auto-yakking facility it's best at being.
If the Lounge becomes too great a confused throng of voices, wings can of course simply base themselves in one room each. Simples.
Why Mobius?
It doesn't have to be Mobius, or the Canonn group. You can participate in Open. But Mobius is the standard venue for Canonn fieldwork exercises - just to avoid any possible PvP intrusions when, frankly, it's a matter of applying compounded man-hours in wrestling with the RNG and not sitting around presenting targets to people who aren't worth bothering with when there's work to be done.If you're not a member of Mobius, apply well before next Sunday to avoid any possible disappointment.
Can non-Canonneers participate?
Of course. The Barrels are Canonn-hosted but others have enjoyed helping in the past and their help has always been appreciated. Besides which, it's always good to wing up with mates out in the black, innit? Mind you, one of the hopes for this Barrel is to help better welcome and integrate the newer Canonneers who have been piling into Varati lately.
What about XBox Commanders?
What about them?

No, really, smartass... What about XBox Commanders?
The majority of Canonneers are on PC/Mac but there are certainly Xbox Canonneers. Even though we shall be unable to wing up across the platforms we can still coordinate across Teamspeak, inhabit the same space according to the BGS, face the same RNGness and so on.
As with every other Barrel and Scour, the more the merrier and differing platforms aren't that much of a hurdle, really. No more or less a fuss than having some in Open while most are in Mobius, say.
(Note: The Moons of Merope survey-fest extravaganza will play out much the same, too.)
Isn't this actually Biscuit Barrel 5?
Well, yeah, sort of. Between the first and second one we did have Operation: I Can't Believe It's Not A Biscuit Barrel which was... yeah... basically a full-on Biscuit Barrel. But think of it like Aliens vs Predators. Easily ignored by many. Although, it was rather successful in its own right. Or perhaps more like Prometheus. Or something. Still going with Biscuit Barrel IV for this one, though.
Why not Operation: Cookie Jar?
Well, see, I'm a roast beef chomping Limey Pom Brit. So that factored in. Operation: Led Zeppelin Were British And So Is Rosamund Pike And Fassbender Lives In London So Hahaha To The Rest Of The World! was a bit on the unwieldy side. Plus, you know, I'm not one to rub it in with something like Operation: We're All Foreigners And Quite Capable Of Getting Along But Led Zeppelin Were Still British And All That Other Stuff So Hahaha! That just wouldn't be cricket, now, would it?
What's the deal with prizes?
Two prizes. EGX Skins. One to be won by means of a raffle drawn from the names of all commanders who show hull and pitch in. The other awarded at the discretion of an alleged despicable pig-man, kind of like a Man of the Match deal. I would say Player of the Match but Man of the... er... match was... oh, er... quicker to type... Nuts.
What are the ships in a UA Convoy?
Barring any change we may run across, the UA is in a Type-9 and Anacondas are amongst the escort vessels. But who knows? Maybe they've changed. Pretty unlikely they now include Adders, though...
Which system will we be targeting?
Haven't the foggiest. Perhaps not Timocani, unless it's the answer to the following...

SCIENCERS & ASSORTED THREADHEADS! HELP!
Which system was it that was reported a short while back in 1.4 to have had a UA Convoy spotted in it? Because if it was a reliable sighting that would seem to be where we'd be best off targeting.

Specifics of ship module suggestions and confirmation of target system to follow closer to the 6th.

If you have any pressing queries, nab me when you see me in TeamSpeak or collar one of the other Canonneers who have been around for a while. There are a number of Barrel Veterans slouching about the gaff and if I'm not about they should be able to fill you in on other details.

Cheers!

Before I yank out the power distribution system: trying to access the 'save and exit' options isn't working. Currently I have Screenshot (8).jpg displayed onscreen, and nothing much else. Is the entire shebang going to exit left if I simply shoot it down?

Idea

If the Unknown Artifacts, when confronted with a Lakon Type Series Ship, issue the Morse code of their current system location
& The Glow and the pointing towards Merope is a transmission of said data to targets unknown in Merope

Then should we bread crumb a UA back to Varati

It is 57 jumps on the economic setting from Col 285 Sector MH-Q a7-1 to Varati

I could pick up the UA at Col 285 Sector MH-Q a7-1 in my type 7, and drop it off at each of the 57 systems, letting it scan the system and transmit back to whom/whatever.
A jump by jump guide to Varati, and finally drop it outside the station when traffic is heavy so it can then transmit home that it has found a hub of human activity.

Thoughts?
Been done already?
A Bad Idea?

Seems an imprudent thing to do to me. Perhaps another system would have been a better 'control' system for various reasons - perhaps one that doesn't already have what seems to be the 'UA-related attention' of station malfunctions, perhaps one that wasn't a player group's home system.
Any plans to repeat the exercise upon other systems?

From newsletter 101 comes this interesting quote "The galaxy is taking a deep breath as something big appears on the Horizon. Maybe old differences have finally been resolved and the galaxy is at peace, or maybe it’s just the calm before the storm."

Also:
"One of the big tasks for the Horizons Planetary Landings release is to populate the various settlements and ports throughout habited space and beyond."

Settlemens beyond populated space?

Also...

Luffy is a mod!!!! Congrats :D
