Hey all,

Anyone know if we have or if its possible to produce a topographical map of a planet in Elite? namely Merope 5c?

Its possible.... Even getting a bunch of surface images georeferenced is a pain .. But to get a nice topo would take alot more points. Personally I'm waiting for a planet with more interesting geography before I do any large scale mappimg

It seems we'll be on BBC tv soon ;)
A tv program called Click, whose presenter is an ED fan, will be talking about us and using our videos and recordings.
I've shared with them the link to this mega thread, and invited the presenter to science with us! :D

Wonder if our very own Kate Russell aka Angel Rose had anything to do with this?

She's more than a fan Riz :p Kickstarter, official author, voice packs, demolition derby creator among many others :D

Oooh, come back just in time to see you guys are getting more BBC coverage! Awesome!

I hope I'll have more time soon to get back into Elite.

there's a good chance the FD PR dept itself had a hand in it too ;)

But even if not - Elite benefits from one of the most engaged communities there is, and one of the most loyal; Kate is one of them of course, and a great ambassador for the game, but you can bet your bottom dollar there are many people throughout the media who are too.

After all - even a JPL engineer is!

Congrats Riz and Cookie - well-earned.

Well, I've flown and driven 45 of the 90 degrees, and so far I've found nothing but rocks. It's almost weird, really, how little is down there. I've not been picking up any POIs on the scanner. I think there were a few nearer the equator, but heading to the poles I've turned up nada.

Flown from 0 to 90 degrees. Nothing doing. Fairly confident in dismissing this now, unless my maths went wrong. Feel free to cover the other 270 degrees for completion's sake, though. :D

I'm a little concerned that we're wasting a lot of time on this spectrogram image. While I think what we see is all there is to see, others are furiously trying to find something else within the audio data. While I applaud these fellow commanders, I would personally feel very aggrieved if it turned out there was nothing else to find, and it was all wasted effort.

I would appreciate FDEV confirming we've found all the data we need from that image to solve whatever it is we need to solve. No clues, no hints, but something to let us move on from decoding the audio and more effort of deciphering the image.

Thanks.

You might personally feel aggravated but many also would not. They do this because they enjoy the process, not because they only enjoy the feeling of a confirmed discovery.

If it were up to me I'd have a session of ''FDEV will answer 3 questions vaguely'' scenario BUT I think that is actually unhealthy for the mystery.

If you get fatigued just take a small break and come back in a few days. I've done it a few times and it really helps.

Speculation:

Step 1 - UA scans ship, puts it on "The List"

Step 2 - UP sends signal, imprinting data package on systems, provides map

Step 3 - Fly to Merope 5c, use instructions on map to line up nav marker rings to get coordinates (which I flew to and estimated to be (-2.500, 165.00). Did not find anything there but did not do step 1 and 2.

Q: has any of the theories you read been close to the truth?

On my way there now. Will be sure to have screenshots and OBS at the ready :D

OMW too

Good luck. Was hoping there would be something interesting in the local news, but couldn't find anything. Probably won't be on much longer myself though.

I normally wouldn't be but I have a day off tomorrow, yahoo!

I'm hoping this place is a bit of a breakthrough for us all but we shall see.
