If I am an Alien Specie, and my SYMBOL is the BARNARD LOOP, I draw it as I see in my sky, where I live. So I don't live INSIDE the Barnard Loop.
Perhaps close to it, with it very big in the sky. But not inside.

Makes sense?

Sure, if. You don't fool me with your pretend stories about human families. You're just spending that time reporting to your insectoid Overlord, right? :p

I just had a thought come to mind.

We know Obsidian Orbital is deteriorating to the point of being shut down, and other stations are experiencing the same issues. The deterioration has been linked to the Unknown Artefacts.

I've seen a few suggestions that the meta-alloy is the answer to repairing the stations. But what if it isn't? What if this is a trap?

The Unknown Artefacts cause deterioration and force humans to abandon it. The meta-alloys are delivered to the station with the hopes that it's the key to stopping the deterioration, but instead it works alongside the Unknown Artefacts to further the deterioration, and ends up transforming the station into a Thargoid structure, thus giving the Thargoids a foothold in human-inhabited space? They'd be literally using our own station against us, and from what we know about the Thargoids, it's not much of a stretch that the level of technology required for such a feat is within their capabilities.

This assumes Thargoids have hostile intentions off the bat, which is inconsistent with how they were talked about by the devs earlier.

There is a notion, I believe voiced by DB himself, that the tone of our first encounters with the thargoids (or other alien races) will determine the shape of our relationship going forward. If the Thargoids or whatever aliens these are come at us guns blazing (or assimilating our stations), this means war without the first impressions phase.

I have been searching since the day of the release of Horizons. Hours upon Hours.

Yesterday, the servers go down without explanation.

Today, not one but 4 (IIRC) have been found.

Tell me this wasn't bugged.

On my way to see at what speed I can nose dive my ASP into Barni's white top and explode myself. Twitcherz: get ready It will be science at it's finest

And from the top view, does the layout of the spires form some pattern or shape?

After staring at it for a while my thoughts were that it's almost widcatcher-like. Which kinda ties in with the weird sounds it makes.

Though clearly there's no wind where they're found.

From the side it looks like a little mountain, snow peak on top.

After trying to read the vast majority of this thread I've go my own theories.

The barnacles sound like ships only deeper in tone.
The sounds they give off are like they are very large structures with something in them, moving, living.
The harmonics may need more analysis as the sounds resemble whale calls.
One pilot mentioned that shooting the spikes sounded like the barnacle was screaming.
The fact the area the barnacles have been found in is sandy means the area is soft, easy to move, grow in and get out of when finished growing.

Something tells me this is a large living organism that is growing in the planet using the high metal content. Hence the metal alloy.
The damage to ships and SRVs suggests its feeding on the metal, possibly something to do with the sparkles that are being seen.
Possibly the same thing that is growing the structures.
Also what are the crystal structures seen on the spikes. Different type of seed perhaps.

This is first contact with a possible Alien species that is seeding/colonising this area of space and the barnacles are the result of the UA making landfall.
There may be a full size one in the bubble of the UAs hiding from us.

I would recommend against shooting them as this is more than likely hurting them and possibly leading us into war.
Remember Frontier said our actions with first contact decides how our relationship with the Aliens will progress, peace or war.

This could also be,
A search for life project by an alien race. The symbol does look distinctly like Barnards Loop Nebula. Orion's belt is part of this.
A space creature that is growing and preparing to hatch.
A possible beach head for invasion. Grow your own base.

I'd recommend close monitoring to see what is developing, but be prepared for a quick response.

What the hell, I went there too to check, but it is like impossible to spot anything. somehow these things are just showing up everywhere now.

It can also mean they have an understanding of one's self to flag thats where they came from.

Example: UN Flag is basically a picture of Earth and its Continent, but thats not how we 'view' ourselves:

If they're a space faring species, it could be a symbol of the Homeworld. I wouldnt completely rule it out

"Hey Jonh, didn't the last inter-species war started with us opening fire on unknown stuff?"
"Sure Bill, why?"
"Oh, nothing."
*opens fire on unknown stuff*

Ten minutes later.

"Hey John, didn't the stations start glitching when we brought mysterious stuff there?"
"Sure Bill, why?"
"Oh, nothing."
*Delivers mysterious stuff to stations.*

Seriously, we're the worst species ever. :p

Wise words indeed.
I fear greed got the better of us.

Or maybe it's their way to say "Hey, if you found that, that's ours, and we live in that giand roundish thing you see in the sky from where you are !"

I'm tellin' you, you need to rotate that logo 90 degrees clockwise. :D

LOL Nice one! :D

I'll just add this into the conspiracy logo soup too...

If you take an illustration of a barnacle's plates and superimpose it over the Barnacle logo, you get this :-

Notice, if you will, all you conspiracy fanatics, that one of the barnacle's inner plates is named 'Scutum' and one of the outer plates is called 'Carina'. Just sayin... ;)

To confirm, we've found Barnacles on both Planets AND Moons (I think I just read a moon was the most recent one)

Are all these locations:
-Tidal Locked
-Facing the Sun
-Low Gravity
-Mostly Rock
?
