as in, low heat signature? Silent Running? not too sure.
I thinking, full on enter system, low heat, silent running, perhaps even entering from the opposite side of the planet and sneak up to it...
Probably overkill, but then again just because our sensors aren't great doesn't mean theirs are just as bad.

The Canonn Hermit

Commander Canonn flying the RSV Gnosis has just touched down in NGC 6357

Here is my load out, and you can track our progress here.

Special thanks to the Canonn Crew out here in the War & Peace Nebula.
I'll see y'all once the nebula has been scanned and tagged with the Canonn name!

It's actually quite easy to see this in game. You just need a bit of distance between the UA and the MA spike.
If focus is kept on the MA while moving the debug cam past the UA, you will see that the     (Fireflies) shrink to to normal size.

What I find interesting is that the magnifying effect only applies to the    . Everything else is just distorted.

The effect is definitely visual, not physical. The     do not change their actual size.     that are outside the distortion field looks magnified, when watched through the field. It's not the UA charging the    .

I wonder if the effect can be used for something useful?

Beta Research Policy

Hi all, just thought I'd let everyone know our Beta Research Policy.

It's just a repeat of what happened during 1.4 and 2.0: This thread will be a no-go area for Beta 'science'. Every post in here that talks about new science in Beta will cause a kitten to die, but more importantly runs the risk of upsetting the many players (including many who have had a material impact on previous mystery-solving) who do not have Beta, or who do not wish to do 'science' in Beta.

Instead - there'll be a new thread for it here on FD forums (link will be provided nearer the time - both here and on that post), as well as a separate channel on our Discord and a new forum on our site.

This post will be re-posted again nearer the time the beta starts in around 3 weeks' time - just thought it an opportune moment to do so while there's not a huge amount going on!

If you get too close to MA, the alloys fireflies disappear completely. They also seem to be overwritten by UA particles in the presence of said UA. Seems like a bug. The UA particles seem to consist of a small greenish one and six dark blue ones. The position of the blue ones does not correlate with the distortion and is not affected by a second UA nearby. See my firefly paper on r/Canonn reddit or OP of this thread if you want to know more. ;-)

Well, let me try it one last time. The short version this time for you scientists [smile]

Found visual hints (a word beside some visual morse) on UA -> Had to take more than just one photo and manipulated color/threshold to be able to 'decode' the word completely -> Word is a system name: Amahine -> On Amahine 4G I found a very foggy crater (-40,70,0) with a hill inside, which looks really like a big version of the barnacles -> POIs spawn arround the 'Barney Hill', somehow like the spikes surround the small barnacles.

Here are some photos of this place (it was very foggy and I use a 630M, so bad quality) and just one example screenshot of the decoding method (if you want to completly decode this, you need more, different screenshots of the blinking 'alien LED array' on the UA)

(the photos of the wreck are from a different planet)

While hardly anybody replied to my initial post... may I assume this has been done before?

Kind regards,
Mike

Yes! That's them! Those poor little kitties with their fluffy bodies and cute eyes and big paws...

Obviously, such nice things don't sway MB - I'm sure he's immune to such things, but surely - we scientists are not so cold-hearted?

Oh and I forgot to mention that unicorns will lose their horns too...

(Don't even get me started on the unicorns)

There's some kitties i wouldn't mind being murdered [big grin]

How you "decoded" a system name from the UA might be of interest, but what you have found appears to be the same old same old. Nothing unusual, unless the POI are permanent (Swap Modes, and they are still there)

Don't have much time, but I will try to give a short explanation:

Regarding this thing on an UA:

It blinks like a 'Knight Rider' light and you need shots of every position of the brightest spot. This will help you to identify the word, letter by letter. Open up the pictures in Gimp and play around with this tool:

https://docs.gimp.org/en/gimp-tool-threshold.html

The graph in the tool gives you clues about where to find parts of the visual messages. The word itself is somewhere between 0 (black slider) and 100 (white slider), that differs. There also seems to be morse code (dots and dashes) hidden in the range above 100 (black slider).
Some letters are very hard to identify... you have to move the sliders in the tool close to each other. Can't remember the exact values, but it was similar to 14 for black and 16 for the white slider.

Hope this helps a little bit.

Regarding the POIs:
I can confirm that they always spawn in a circle around the hill, like I said, in a similar pattern the spikes surround the small barnacles. With max. range to sensors, hovering ~3km above the top of the hill, you will notice.

To me, it reads 'amazin' and I think it would be amazing if this were an actual lead.

[in reply to cmdr ironshirt]

Well, this would perfectly support my theory of how the barnys expand!

What you found is a full grown one, but the habitat ran out of minerals... (no fuel left :D )
And its fully covered with sand...dust... or similar. Must been there for a while....?

P.S.: I call it a manual reply ;)

Can you explain how you see letters?

Me need spoonfeed. :-/

ironshirt made the image black and white using a threshold value, and with a lot of imagination, the blue/green lights on the UA then look like letter outlines that form a word.
You need to want to believe it to see it.
And then once you've seen it, you'll probably no longer believe.
Sorry if I am being a bit harsh.

So from today's Galnet several stations are still suffering UA sickness- an unsubtle hint that more MAs are needed there!
Interesting to note is that Ray Gateway Diaguandri isn't listed- I took 184t there so that is a ballpark indication for the amount needed to provide the "cure". Don't know if anyone else delivered more MAs there.
