I cant decide if grinding allied with Sirius or trying to gather 25 fragments is worse. I am up to 11 after almost 2 hours of searching.

This was my idea, jump in scan a worthy target hope for a USS along the way. After 20 systems all within 130ly from Maia I had zero artifact spawns.
I'm all for the "just play the game and materials will come" idea but it simply doesn't always work.
I'm back in HIP 14479, just because I know theyes spawn here, mindlessly staring at my panel waiting for one to show up.
You have to be 130-150ly from Merope, within 130 you will get nothing. I did what you describe within the 130-150 distance and had them all in 3-4 hours and enough data to hit rank 3 with Palin.
So a system 129 or 151 ly is no good but 131 or 149 is ok? Like a spherical doughnut?
Been @14479 this morning.
So far got 16 fragments.
Flying between the 1st 2 planets and the sun.
Get close to each planet and maybe loop around.
Pretty much every "log" I'll get the anomaly detected signal.
Crash into the artifact at just under 100 speed. That is almost certain to break it into 2 rather than 1 fragment.
Once collected log out and in again and supercruise to the next planet.
Seems regular to me this morning. Boring, but regular.
Hope this helps.
My experience with unknown fragments after 2.1.0.5: i go to HIP 14479, and in around one hour i managed to get 30 unknown fragments. Seems now when you ram the artifact full speed, with cargo scoop deployed, you get two fragments. Each fragment after scoop will became 3 unknown fragments in the materials bay (no need to cargo).
Seems FD really tone down the grind, which in my opinion it's a good thing, the grind for engineers was too much for my taste![]()
Took me 1 hour to collect 27 fragments
fly between the 1st 2nd and 3rd planets
shot the UA with my laser and scooped them up with collector limpets
job done
