Engineers unknown fragment for Palin

I cant decide if grinding allied with Sirius or trying to gather 25 fragments is worse. I am up to 11 after almost 2 hours of searching.

gathering the 25 fragments is worse. just do a lot of missions at Sothis and Ceos usually makes the allied with Sirius bit quite easy, compared to the time & distance spent on fragments unless you get lucky.

Bother.
Just done my 5000ly trip and was hoping to hit that Annaconda. Hey ho. Thanks to the tips above I'll try those systems first.
Must. Get. DIRTY. (drives).

This was my idea, jump in scan a worthy target hope for a USS along the way. After 20 systems all within 130ly from Maia I had zero artifact spawns.

I'm all for the "just play the game and materials will come" idea but it simply doesn't always work.

I'm back in HIP 14479, just because I know theyes spawn here, mindlessly staring at my panel waiting for one to show up.

You have to be 135-150ly from Merope, within 130 you will get nothing. I did what you describe within the 135-150 distance and had them all in 3-4 hours and enough data to hit rank 3 with Palin.

So a system 129 or 151 ly is no good but 131 or 149 is ok? Like a spherical doughnut?

Finding the anomaly Uss isn't as hard as people make it out to be. I started yesterday evening and finished this morning. Systems (in the region 135-145ly from merope) that have planets that we can explore seemed to spawn them all the time. I didn't go to HIP 14479 but I did find plenty Uss / Anomaly detected in Synuefai and Mel22 systems.
I donated all 25 unknown fragments to Palin, then sold 1mln exploration data. I am currently at grade 3 access with him. I am going to explore now to get to grade 5.

You will need about 3-4 million for grade 4 and 10-15 million for grade 5 AFAIK.

I estimated each grade requires about 4x more data than the last.

Wow. Spent most of the night last night in HIP 14479. Only saw 2 signal sources the whole time, neither of which were the right kind. One distress call, and one degraded emissions. There's a few hours of my life I'll never get back.

This is what is driving people away. The design direction has been hours of tedium required to accomplish anything, none of which requires any skill or input from the player. Just fly around aimlessly until the RNG gods decide it's your turn. Player ability means nothing. I've about had it at this point myself.

Been @14479 this morning.
So far got 16 fragments.

Flying between the 1st 2 planets and the sun.
Get close to each planet and maybe loop around.
Pretty much every "log" I'll get the anomaly detected signal.

Crash into the artifact at just under 100 speed. That is almost certain to break it into 2 rather than 1 fragment.

Once collected log out and in again and supercruise to the next planet.
Seems regular to me this morning. Boring, but regular.

Hope this helps.

I combined the whole thing with doing some sploring, did go scanning systems in the shell and dropped into every USS with UA's while doing so. Had a good time and enough exploration data that when I brought palin the Fragments I also could go to rank 3 right off the bat thanks to the exploration data.

Yup, it sure did! I did this last night and got all 25 fragments I needed in a few hours. Nice one :)

My experience with unknown fragments after 2.1.0.5: i go to HIP 14479, and in around one hour i managed to get 30 unknown fragments. Seems now when you ram the artifact full speed, with cargo scoop deployed, you get two fragments. Each fragment after scoop will became 3 unknown fragments in the materials bay (no need to cargo).
Seems FD really tone down the grind, which in my opinion it's a good thing, the grind for engineers was too much for my taste :D

I can confirm this works. Just spent ~1 hour to get 30 fragments in HIP 14479.

So should I put in a bug report for a fragment or two?

Found a UA, starting ramming it near 100 m/s speeds. Got it down to 3 percent at which time it simply vanished from contacts, radar, and visual.

It didn't break into fragments, it just vanished.

Lately I ask myself alot why I bother with this game.

Took me 1 hour to collect 27 fragments
fly between the 1st 2nd and 3rd planets
shot the UA with my laser and scooped them up with collector limpets

job done
