Engineers unknown fragment for Palin

Neither the modular terminals for Qwent, nor the unknown fragments for Palin were a struggle...the only real grind was getting the Sirius permit (1 week).

When you guys say you need plenty of time collecting some materials, you definetly do something wrong.
E.g. Collecting 25 modular terminals for Marco Qwent just took me three hours by going to Shu Babassi stacking courier delivery missions. While doing so I ranked up with Empire very fast.
The same getting allied with Sirius Corporation. Go the Sothis/Ceos, stack the courier missions. Within an hour you can become allied. Fly back to Avik and take the mission for the Sirius permit. Pretty easy and while doing Sothis missions I ranked up with Federation quickly.

EDIT: Just doing the Palin UF collection. 45 mins of playing and then I had 27 UF in my cargo. I shot the canisters with beam lasers and got 8x2 bits and 1x1 bit of UF.

Got 18 within 20 minutes, then it dried up. Jumped in and out again. Logged off, back in again. Got a lot of other threats instead. Finally the RND gods took pity on me - I got 30 in an overall time of 70 minutes.

Like so many contributors here, I'll chime in that some of what we're forced to do is downright unconscionable. When FDev fixes their colossal error in the Engineers implementation, I might continue with it. But, FDev, here's the harsh truth. I'd seriously rather go to work at a job I don't like than go spend 7 hours flying around in circles hoping that the game will randomly reward me for the effort. At least that way I'm interacting with people, moving my body around, having chats at the water cooler. You guys forgot something very important. This is a video game. Video games are supposed to be fun, and are certainly not designed to mimic the worst of our grinding jobs in the real world. It truly sucks. Please fix it. If you're insistent on forcing us to do what so very few of us want to do in this increasingly failing experience, then please just implement storage.

Too mildly, but well put!

Initially, I was dreading this task.

So I tried a system mentioned in this thread (HIP 14479) in the shell. For a while I didn't find anything, so I tried going faster (about 20c) in case the spawn rate is affected by the distance travelled - which would actually make sense. I started finding them quickly after that. 5 Anomalies (i.e. 15 fragments) in about 45 minutes. It would have been 6, except I had an interdictor/stalker so had to jump out of the system. Returned and tried again, this time following another tip to gently ram the artefact instead of shooting it, and on the next two occasions it dropped two (i.e. 2x3=6 fragments per artefact).

27 fragments inside an hour. Job done. ThankYouVeryMuch for the tips!!!!!!

(I am French, I use a translator)

I found with your comments, thank you.

but they are corrosive,
so I have two obvious questions..

Does corrosion persists until the destruction of the ship ?
Is that corrosion becomes faster when we have several ?
and third question.. am I supposed to guess or expose to understand ?^^

view corrosion with one.. with 10 I explode in 30 seconds logically. I distrust with this game ;-)

the idea of corrosion is very good, I'm not against it, I said, but it lacks a little in game information.

good.. I'll do it in several times to ensure ;-)

ok sir Palin has anti-corrosion compartments.. I read in your comments..

you also talk about unknown artifact.. different from unknown fragment.. not easy when you not understand English .. we can do without this forum ? lol

unknown artifact.. different from unknown fragment.. I have not yet solved this mystery.

ok I found .. again if you do not know you can search for days ;-)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DsjnX89wfc4

although now I think that this makes sense .. 10 artifact = 20 fragment (artifact !!).

renamed "unknown fragment" by "unknown artifact fragment"
it would be a little easier to see.. but maybe I am length to be understood ;-)

(it must be a little crazy to shoot strangers things, nop ?)

unknown fragment = materials
unknown artifact = goods (merchandise, commodity)

the other puts me 600 000cr fine because of unknown artifact !! I am beside Mr. palin.. sorry.. but it's true mess lol.. I'll give him what he wants and what old senile puts me fine.

ok.. I stop grumble ;-)

Here I think I've been around the issue.. these are my last words lol

This wasn't particularly difficult for me to do. However having done it, I have to say that as a 'scientist' Palin is definitely more of a Mengele than he is a Galileo or Darwin. The man is basically a vivisectionist with a flashy base.

Easiest engineer unlock/rank for me. I went to the system and within an hour had all 25 fragments. As you can see in this shot I would target the star as a reference point and from suggestions here go towards the core/cloud up to 1000ly. These popped up pretty reliably and half split into 2, which given the 3x mats that are given out now means getting 25 is a breeze. I've been to Jaques and back twice so the hard part was over but I was worried finding these UAs would be hard. First time I've come across them too. Felt bad having to smash em.

Ranking up Palin was easy too but I hoard a lot a mats so I could do upgrades easily between levels. My ASP does 486 boost though I was hoping to reach 500. Wonder what my FAS and Imperial Eagle Racer will do but I need to farm some more mats.

Anyway thanks to the tips posted here getting UA fragments isnt hard at all post 2.1/2.2. I was surprised how easy it was and was expecting to spend several hours hunting for them.

I've got my 5k by now but sadly that did not skip the bullocks of having to unlock him through unlocking that terminals guy through unlocking whatshername...
This whole nested engineer unlock system is annoying -_- "here bother ranking an engineer you don't give a damn about and then one more to get one you actually want to unlock and rank".

Yes, go to any system 130-150ly from Merope and look for "Anomaly Detected" signal sources. They contain an Unknown Artefact. Marvel at the art and sound for a bit and then interact with aliens the only way we can at the moment - shoot or ram it.

Good work on getting the 25 Modular Terminals. I'm only on 15. Does Qwent have Universal Cartographics?

If you are having trouble with Modular Terminals I'd suggest taking missions around Altair, Bhritzameno, and 70 Ophichi. I ususally run missions in that general area, which is pretty close to Sirius anyway, and found the MT grind to be pretty trivial.

Might have been a glitch or something, but when I grabbed the unknown artifact with a collector, then blew it up with a couple seeker missiles (the UA not the collector), then harvested the drops. I got 15 fragments in 2 instsances instead of 8 or more.

I found them at the 2nd crash site (both uas and ufs HIP 17862 6C A at coordinates 30.3398,-98.5876)

Can confirm. Didn't need them at the time, but I went visiting an Alien Crash Site and fragments are scattered everywhere. Probes are there too which you can destroy for more.
Collected ~30 if I recall; after which I wondered if they would respawn if I changed from Open to Solo (or visa versa) and low and behold they did.

= EASY collections of UA Fragments! Good luck (though its not needed!)

Is there any ingame info or even hints for where to look for these Unknown Fragments yet?

If not this might be most retarted thing that I have found in games in ages.

ps. Over 500h of gametime and have not stumbled not even once yet.

They are pretty straightforward ro find once you know what you are looking for and where to look. Plenty of info on here and other places.

I got mine near Merope in USS called anomoly threat 4 or similar. If you are there and they are not spawning then cruise slowly from the star out to the furthermost planet and back. They are pretty regular and when you shoot them will eith give one or two pieces. The other way is to get them in a SRV by visiting a crash site and surrounding area. This way is said to be quicker but i cant use my SRV. The cruise mode only took me a couple of hours

And its not necessarily gameplay because you dont know how to do it ;-)
