Stutter/ non-smooth start to hyperspace has been a problem for me since PremBeta and I have a new system with high-end parts. My rig performs just as you describe. The SC intro seems smoother to me than hyperspace as well. There is probably some cueing up feature of the animation that needs polish.
I too have the hyperspace animation stutter, have done for some time - probably as suggested around prembeta. It's one of those little things that really bugs me, that, and wet towels being left on the bathroom floor!
I have a high end system. I did some tests running ED from a HDD, SSD, and ramdrive.
The hyperspace stutter was there even when running the game from a ramdrive, which surprised me.
I don't think it's related to hardware specs. Initial hyperspace is handshaking between "real time" and the "hyperspace" instances. I think it's internet related.
Glad to know I'm not alone in this. It's possibly a low priority for FD, but is something I end up looking at so frequently that it colours my view of the whole game's fit and finish. It feels clunky.
Simple buy a decent computer....
Ah, the old "I don't see this problem, so based on my sample of one it must therefore not be an issue" trope. Good for you.
I'm running a 6-core 3.33GHz Xeon with 20Gb RAM, ATI Radeon 5870, Windows 7 Pro on a dedicated partition with at least 50Gb free. It is most definitely
NOT an issue of hardware performance. When (if!) the stutter finishes, I am happily zipping along at 60-80fps for the remainder of the hyperspace journey. Even in space stations or combat zones or other crowded scenes I rarely get below 50-60fps. I'm on an 80Gbs fibre, so it's not my internet connection speed.
There is an issue with the game.
I have a similar issue (which I've ticketed) - I don't get fully kicked out to desktop, I get a flicker to desktop, then back to the game. I'm still in control with my XBox controller but I lose the 'game' mouse pointer and get the standard Windows one. Input focus is not on the game any more so none of the keyboard commands work. I can only get back by clicking the mouse - which DOES drop me to the desktop - then clicking the game icon in the task bar.
Yep, I've been getting this for quite some time. I did ticket it but was told that it hadn't been reported by any other user and that it could just be some other application taking focus. Still happens if no other applications are running.
I get this a lot too. If I had any faith at all that my tickets would be replied to, I'd report it. At then there'd be two of us!
My charitable side has now assumed there's just some glitch in the support system that means my tickets aren't showing up for some reason. It's the only way to explain such a lack of response now, when other people are talking about the responses they've had to tickets.
My cynical side just assumes FD have got their heads up their collective a-holes. I'd love to be proved wrong.
