You don't have to own one... lot of cmdrs are on FCOC discord because they use member carriers services like shuttles to interesting areas.

if you can afford a carrier, maintenance fee is nothing. you can make years worth in a day in the bubble. The maintenance mechanic was nerfed into irrelevance early on.

Sort of.
Yea, if you can get the billions for a carrier, you know how to get money for the maintenance. It just makes it tedious. As before you were doing it as you went along, once you own the carrier, you must do it regularly. It taints activities that were once fun with even a little bit of a shade of "now this has to be done IE: work".

you spend a day or two and get years of upkeep ...then you dont have to think about it for literally years.

I've not had to worry about upkeep for going on two years now that i've been out in the black. If i had been in the bubble like most players, then it's a non-issue.

Thankyou for a date for update 11. I doubt it will satisfy the desire for a return to the engagement we were seeing before Christmas, and the hunger for dev news, but at least this is something.

As far as I've heard, they also help commanders obtain a FC if they don't have the financial clout.

I'm also on console and no, unless they add some way for us to see jumps there's nothing for us in this one. I've blocked landing access on my FC. If I can't see the inside of my own FC then no one will!

yea but your hypothetical person who can get 5 billion but can't handle the upkeep doesn't actually exist in reality.

It's ridiculously easy to get months and years of upkeep in a day or two of gameplay. It's a non-issue for carrier owners and a obsolete concern only to players who haven't got one.
