Update 13, Narrative and Access to 4.0

I would be surprised if the “big event” is on Tuesday, it would be tantamount to releasing new software on Friday night at 6pm before all the devs pack up and go home for the weekend…. Not the best release strategy.

I would guess, release the patch, let it settle - apply the fix - then set a date mid to late August to wrap this all up.

Alternatively some sort of cut scene video built into the release showing the bubble exploding and wiping out half of humanity and it’s back to the Stone Age (well at least for Oddy players)

Can’t wait
Based on this, posted on FB earlier today, and the first version posted on Thursday, I'm inclined to believe that the weapon won't be 'fired' until Thursday next week at the earliest. So far, it seems to be two days between each stage, and if that's the case for all stages, it won't be fired until the Tuesday after. That Monday it will be the second day of the 'Weapon Ready' stage, so I'm wondering if the actual firing will then be the next day (Tuesday). We could still be in for another week and a half of waiting....

This is not what needs to be read again. It's the post from months back where it clearly states no more updates for consoles.

This announcement and updates literally do not mention console but does specifically mention PC. Nowhere does U13 mention all platforms is all I'm saying.

I'm aware of Obsidianants video where he reached out and got a response. Thing is...he's been given inaccurate information before and so until I see something official I don't think they are changing directions on no more console updates.

I believe what they meant was the news or maybe a community goal event may touch consoles but unless they specifically update the console servers, even if they update Horizons, consoles won't get it which seemingly is why they further mention moving PC to a new launcher

Remember console is getting a chance to copy our progress and stuff to PC in 60 days or so
So why are they shutting off the console severs as well? If we are not getting the update ?

Process Explorer to copy the command-line the launcher starts the game with, then just append SeasonOne /SeasonOne or SeasonTwo /SeasonTwo (for ED and EDH mode respectively) when pasting into command prompt.
Thank you for the explanation. 🙂
4.0 is likely based on a fork of 3.8 with a major update of the planetary rendering engine, as well the addition of on-foot game play. The new on-foot game play in EDO is separated from the older EDH game play at two 'choke points' - the disembark option in ships and SRV's and the on-foot materials inventory screen. Disable or 'hide' those for EDH-only game owners and in effect you have an EDH client running on 4.0. And that is how you run ED and EDH as 4.0.

Additional content that has been subsequently added to 4.0 - specifically the Scorpion and the multi-purpose limpets - could also be disabled/hidden, but whether as a sign of good faith and/or because it's too much trouble to do this, means that these will now also be available for EDH players. 3.8 will likely be phased out over the next few months, so if you enjoy canyon racing, best get that all out of your system now, unless you're a console player.
DrinkyBird gave me the answer I was looking for, but thanks for your description too. I knew about how it would work after the 3.8/4.0 availability in the coming weeks, I was just wondering how it had been done now, before that happens. 😊

I'm not a canyon racer, so that part has never bothered me anyway, and I do like how the planet look in Ody, at least from space anyway. I haven't seen those 'repeated' textures at all so far.

I'm not a console player. PC through and through. Also a Kickstarter backer, so I get all DLCs free as well. Still, I think I probably spent more on the Kickstarter than if I had bought them separately, but then I did get a nice special edition (?) boxed version of the game for my money too.

Hopefully we get those two little bits of "good faith" on consoles before they switch us to bug fix only patches! :0 :D .
Sorry, I don't think you will. The announcement specifically says that they "intend to give all PC players access to version 4.0", so while console players may get to experience the end of the Azimuth story line, they won't get upgraded to 4.0, and by extension get access to that new content, which makes sense because further development on consoles was abandoned because they could not get the new code base to work on them.

They're thankfully not shutting off console servers, only "down grading"the amount of support we get to "critical updates", likely only bug fixes ..

I only hope we'll still be able to take part in CGs and be part of the BGS after it :0 : D .
Ohh you mean what we have been getting for the past year or so 🤣.
I think ( my personal opinion only) that after the transfers , the console version will have less and less affect on BGS and stuff and it will become its own little server before Fdev turn round and say well we only have x amount of console players ( for some reason 🤦‍♂️) so it's not viable to run it .

They never did.
Yes, the mission category "Thargoid" or "Anti Xeno" was there but is now gone...unless I'm totally off my rocker, which is a distinct possibility.

Of course if you were specifically referring to listed missions in that category then I am completely wrong...

There was never a Thargoid or similar category in the on-foot mission board. It is however always present in the ship mission board, even when no Thargoid missions are available. Someone then posted that as "there's a Thargoid category in the mission board!" and people misinterpreted it as the on-foot mission board (I guess because they forgot that categories for ship-based missions was also a new feature in Odyssey) and the rumour has yet to die.

On the flip-side, Frontier is still charging money for Horizons on consoles. So what happens when they sell copies of Horizons on Monday and then Tuesday they pull the plug on the servers?

Not that this is unheard of, as I bought MAG on PS3 and sometime later the servers were shut down and I owned an unplayable game. I had owned and played it long enough to not even think of asking for a refund, but I wonder now what Sony did with people who bought it the day before the servers were shuttered.
