Update 13, Narrative and Access to 4.0

Will this update adress problems that quite a few players have got with RX 6000 series graphics cards?

like whatever the blue shader is that only appears in direct sunlight seems very annoying or just not working as intended when setting (PermitNativeDoubles="false") in AppConfig.xml, while the alternative is not being to play on newer drivers when approaching planet in general (getting thrown out by a orange sidewinder) or play on older drivers that sadly are worse for performance and weird occasional crashes that only seem to affect Elite for me when I'm on 22.5.1.

There was never a Thargoid or similar category in the on-foot mission board. It is however always present in the ship mission board, even when no Thargoid missions are available. Someone then posted that as "there's a Thargoid category in the mission board!" and people misinterpreted it as the on-foot mission board (I guess because they forgot that categories for ship-based missions was also a new feature in Odyssey) and the rumour has yet to die.
Hmmm, I could swear that I've seen it in the on foot mission board, very early on and then they "fixed" it by making it disappear...

But, since I've spent the last 30 minutes going through my old screenshots and videos and cannot find any evidence that my memory is true, I must be incorrect...

Ohh you mean what we have been getting for the past year or so 🤣.
I think ( my personal opinion only) that after the transfers , the console version will have less and less affect on BGS and stuff and it will become its own little server before Fdev turn round and say well we only have x amount of console players ( for some reason 🤦‍♂️) so it's not viable to run it .
Maybe but hopefully not, I for one will keep playing the game on PS4 for as long as I can - I don't have a PC powerful enough to play Elite, nor do I want to play Elite on PC or 99% of my game away from my family of systems of choice, Playstation!

While I've been playing the game since the PS4 launch, there's still a lot of stuff i want to do in it...

I cherry-picked my way through the available ships until I got an Anaconda about two years ago and it's been my primary ship since then, it's the only ship I've engineered and I currently have most of its' modules a mixture of level 3-5 class engineered...

There's more I want to do to it and many older ships which I own I need to go back too...

There are many ships I skipped over or which weren't available when I already had bigger ships and while I've unlocked all the Federal ships and bought a Corvette not long ago, haven't done much with it yet...

I've a lot to unlock from the Imperial ranked ships, while I've barely touched Powerplay...

While I'm Elite in trade, I need to rank up my combat and exploration ranks, meanwhile I only set out on my first long range exploration journey, only going more than 1000 light years from my starting system a month or two again, then 2,500, then I went about 8,000 to the Soul nebula, where I only started heading back from last night to investigate Professor Palin and his clone engineer after unlocking them....

Long story short, I'm far from done with Elite and I just hope plenty other console commanders will stay "behind" with me :O :D .

On the flip-side, Frontier is still charging money for Horizons on consoles. So what happens when they sell copies of Horizons on Monday and then Tuesday they pull the plug on the servers?

Not that this is unheard of, as I bought MAG on PS3 and sometime later the servers were shut down and I owned an unplayable game. I had owned and played it long enough to not even think of asking for a refund, but I wonder now what Sony did with people who bought it the day before the servers were shuttered.
As I alluded to in other posts, for various reasons, I don't plan on going anywhere and hopefully if enough console players stay "behind" with me, they won't turn the servers off...

It'd help to make the console Universe feel more alive, when we're "cut off"*, if they merged the Playstation and Xbox communities to plug the holes left by the console players who do abandon the console versions when the transfer happens :D .

*From new content at least

I too don't plan on going anywhere, unless I'm really blown away by Horizons 4.0. And I'm thinking that console servers, with the possible exception of matchmaking, are one in the same with PC Horizons 3.8 servers (the difference in clients being managed by software and metadata) - nuestra casa es su casa.

It'll be interesting to see how many console players migrate to PC, buy Odyssey, and end up not liking it and go back to Horizons 3.8. The fact that so many console players are willing to migrate kinda baffles me - if they have PC hardware that could have played Horizons in the first place (which is way less demanding that Odyssey), why did they wait until now to move to PC? And those who don't, do they really think Odyssey will be so much better than what they currently have on console to warrant buying a PC specifically so they can play it?

Geforce now Will get alot of users.. It got way better and runs on Xbox native with Xbox web browser and controller...
Fibre support in towns has come a long way since 2017... So many who were on DSL now have discounted Fibre ISP now were there was none... and access is not a monopoly so the prices are Lower when you can pick who the access provider is...
You dont need A modern PC but anything that can run chrome. so most PCs from 2010 CPU and GPU will work fine with geforce now...

The ones who I know who are migrating across bought PC just to carry on playing EDH , with very few remotely interested in EDO .
It may have forced their hand to buy a PC rather than they wanted an "gaming PC"

As one of the PS players transferring to PC;
At the point of announcement I didn't have a working pc. Moving from PS4 to PS5 seemed somewhat pointless, there's nothing in the PS5 lineup that really grabs the attention.
The other half already decided to shift from PS4 to the new Xbox following the Starfield announcement.
Apart from Elite the other game that interests me is X4 which makes PC the obvious move.
Apart from that it's a case of figuring out what the budget will allow.
I'd already got the PC up and running before the transfer announcement so that was a welcome bonus.

Well, presumably there'll be at least some changes of bugs for Odyssey players in U13, and they did say way back some extra optimisations were on the plan.
I see. And then I read read and could not understand what I (playing Odyssey 4.0) will bring this patch.

....phased out over the next few months, so if you enjoy canyon racing, best get that all out of your system now......
Canyon planets are here we just didn't find them yet...
Now the reason I know they are there is because in just the short amount of time I have been in Odyssey I have already found 1 planet that was entirely canyons... but they were not super deep or narrow... they were fun, maybe grade 2/5. I have also come across a couple grade 4/5 canyons about 8km deep and tight but they were rare and at random spots on the planet that I couldn't find when I went back. so being procedurally generated... if 8km deep tight canyons are generating and full planet canyon systems are generating... it's just a matter of time before we start finding the next Pomeche 2C's again.

I think their might be 'less' extreme planets, but I'm pretty sure a lot of them might be found with the new Hutton Orbital Truckers CG that just started.... I could be wrong but the only reason we're not seeing the Canyon hot-spots yet is because there hasn't been as much Odyssey exploration in the bubble. Although it is all completely 'brand new'... it is all already showing as discovered and fully mapped... even if you haven't been to a planet since horizons, the whole planet shows mapped/Blue as you approach now in Odyssey. Earlier Horizons had reason to go scan and examine Every planet cause they were getting their names on them.... so they flew in to examine their newly found planet. I'm not saying that there are no new Odyssey players examining... I'm saying almost Every early Horizons players was examining like crazy, tagging everything. A lot of these new Odyssey planets, showing fully mapped have actually never been visited by Any player Ever...

I've seen some of the 'cracked mud' bits which seem deep and tight enough to possibly be good for racing but the Buckballers seem rather dismissive of them. As such I'm not inclined to put them forward. Be prepared for a negative response if you do.
