Update 14 and Beyond: Live and Legacy Modes

Any words about the materials gathering that is reduced almost to zero in Odyssey which we have been trying to get some attention to inform you since the Alpha?

This is all about the mechanisms which was a plausible scientific model on Horizons than it is on Odyssey. May I have an position about this, @Bruce G ?

I can provide deeper explanation to this subject, if you feel the need.

Thank you!
It was a design decision when Odyssey was made. Frontier have made their position clear on it multiple times.

Material gathering is still easy, but you won't get the nav panel icons back.

We have an important announcement to share with regards to future game modes as of Update 14 which is due 29 November! Read all about it on our website and let us know what you think in the comments below:
I understand that there will be a Odyssey, and a Horizons version in live. People stuck somehow on-foot can swtich from Odyssey to Horizons and are back in the ship.

What about those stuck in a SRV in a way where they aren't able to move anymore? In the past we simply logged into Beyond and got back into our ship in orbit. Do we get also some kind of Beyond 4.0, or do we have to switch to Odyssey, get out of the SRV on foot, abandon the SRV and somehow get back into our ship or APEX (if available)? If the later, what about those people which don't have Odyssey?

We're aware that switching between versions is a way around a number of issues like this and are considering alternate options.

What I understand from your answer:
  • there will be no Beyond 4.0 (at least not with u14)
  • when u14 hit the streets, there will be no way to get unstuck in a SRV for those which only have Horizons (contacting the support may or may not be an option, but at least for the players it is a way to raise the issue)
  • there may or may not be alternate options to get unstuck at an unspecified time in the future after u14

I really wouldn't consider this an "ongoing option" if it's completely separate to 4.0.
The dilemma I see is that I could easily keep playing in 3.8 (though it will be far less entertaining without CGs), but let's say I play another year before finally switching to Odyssey - all that year's worth of progress is lost. The irony is that this actually disincentivizes me to upgrade later. It's basically "Upgrade now or never!" and once you upgrade, there's no going back (for example, if I want a superior VR experience).

Starting November 29th, EDH 3.8 will be as much a separate game from "live" Elite as Space Engineers and X4 Foundations is. Though I guess I should be thankful that Frontier hasn't killed 3.8 outright, though this is obviously a step in that direction.

A fair criticism, but leaving a Legacy mode for players like yourself seemed preferable to shutting it down entirely as you say. I expect that many if not most of the existing player base that will ever buy Odyssey has already done so. It's likely that brand new players will trend towards the Live version (whether that's Horizons OR Odyssey) rather than Legacy.

There's always self-destruct.

I understand why Frontier is doing this, I really do. I don't like it, LOL, but I do understand it.

But I don't like it 🤪
