Update 14 and Beyond: Live and Legacy Modes

"...we understand that some of our players have fond memories of the galaxy as it stands in 3.8..."

I don't have fond memories of 3.8... it works better, i do most of my solo play in horizons cos i can run it with much higher settings and better graphics and fps. If now i am forced to play 4.0 just to be in the current universe.... you are just forcing me to have a much worse game experience. Blurry graphics, blurry text, horrible exagerated contrast, my computer fans going loud and crazy...

So with giving console players less than a week notice that you're ending full transfers, and it takes a week to decommission a fleet carrier, so CMDR's who transfer now just lose 5+ billion credits?!?

Be reasonable. You can't have both. This isn't magic land where new development doesn't regress features and performance.

Oh, why do I have a feeling the bubble is about to go bye-bye. Like this reads like some map altering stuff that's about to drop and people are going to have mixed feelings about this forever.

Because why would create yet another gamemode of "the old galaxy." Now I'm actually scared.

very glad to hear Odyssey will be able to play with Horizons 4.0 - that was a real frustration when I found out.

just to be clear though.
they wont share instances with odyssey players

Odyssey players will have the option of playing in horizons to play with horizon only players using the 4.0 version that horizon only players see (and currently odyssey players do not).

No shared instances between horizons and odyssey is planned.

It was consoles holding us back, now they can concentrate on going forwards with Odyssey content.

we had updates 12 13 and now 14 since this announcement, was console still holding us back? actually we had more updates while consoles were on "standby mode" than after they were dropped.

@thread
i'm hoping, again for the 10th time, that this update bring significant changes to the performance, or at least a more tangible gameplay than a glowing non-interactible station in a planet and 5 non-interactive(in a meaninful way) stars that moves slower than any human vessel currently in ED galaxy. for a species that can pull you out of witchspace and we still don't know why, thargoids(supposedly) are pretty slow while traveling between stars eh.

Whilst there will be no new narrative content such as GalNet or Community Goals, you will still be able to affect the galaxy via the background simulation. Actions in Legacy Mode will not affect the Live game.
So 2 independent galaxies with 2 separate BGS?

thank you. It feels like you are at Fdev putting in a "game save" of the universe today, so what ever you are planning on bringing into the bubble on the 29, if it fails you can reset back to the galaxy before... clever - I am excited about the future....

scared? because the game state that's been basically static for 8 years is really fun?

Nuking the bubble is exciting. It opens up the game to gameplay that actually involves effort and strategy and gives the hope of there being some kind of meaning to the actions of players in the BGS.

The existing game has everything so packed together and so numerous that anyone can just circumvent anything going on and really doesn't have to care about anything in the game to do whatever they want. It's all meaningless and boring/pointless now. You should be excited that your space trucking or shooting at rocks or player group or whatever activity you do in the game might actually mean something in the new world order.

Maybe they are moving 8 entire star systems, they seem very bright and big when seen in game..

Well personally as someone who made the jump from console to PC (and a thank you to those at who decided that should be a straight up copy paste and then that implemented it) I'm happy with what is a positive announcement that the game will be focused on building on its newer client and more updates are in the pipeline.

(Hopefully that's enough to keep FDev from spawning the Thargoid probulators drones in my cockpit when the update is launched).

6 Days.... ?
If you guys knew you were completely separating the 2 systems you should have given more than 6 days notice! Give people time to get their affairs in order.
I'm not against the separation, I think I might actually like having the old cmdr that I can do 'whatever' with. But a lot of players who are NOT on the forums everyday like us, and only get to play 2 times a week might end up with 1 or 2 days notice to get ready. Push back the v.14 release 1 week to give people time to move all their ships to where they need to be... finish the projects they are in the middle of.... move their Fleet Carriers close to Jameson if their out in Colonia for decommissioning if necessary (this one might actually be beneficial to only have to move 1 carrier back to the bubble and keep the 'Live one in Colonia). But the point is it is a COMPLETE separation with only 6 days notice.

Question - are things going to be separate, and will things I do in legacy mode still effect the "live" mode?
But what if I fly to point A in legacy and drive to point B in live, will A and B in fact be B and A, thus forcing me to spend money to undrive my ship and unfly my SRV?
