Update 14 and Beyond: Live and Legacy Modes

I don’t know anything about Steam
Which is why I think you and Morbad don't understand how Steam works - it doesn't give an option of which Elite I want - it just downloads whichever is the default, which was 3.8 until today. Steam itself handles the downloading and installing, not the launch app.

So if Steam thinks 4.0 is the new default today, I'll be forced to download it, like it or not, unless Frontier separates Live from Legacy on Steam itself.

My sympathies for you and other Steam users at update time has increased.
Knowing that I am not sure I would use Steam even if I played more than one game.

In Steam's defense, no other game in my library has this issue. This entire mess is on Frontier, so if anything, I'm currently thinking "I am not sure I want to play Elite" rather than feeling bad about Steam.

ps - Frontier could do what Microsoft, ESO, and other games do, and just provide the launcher and allow the launcher to handle the updates. It's their choice to configure Steam the way it is. Until today, I actually saw this as a good thing, because Steam usually provides way faster downloads than the launchers do. And who knows, maybe starting today that's what they will do. However, that's not the impression I got from yesterday's official posts on the topic.

That's like blaming the mail service for the content of the parcels you receive.

Frontier is responsible for packaging their software properly. Steam provides all the tools to do so, and pretty much all other publishers get this right.

Frontier's own launcher treats client 3.8 and client 4.0 as separate software packages. So the logical thing to do on Steam would be to package the launcher as the main app and the two clients as DLCs.

AX Missile Racks have had their damage increased.
AX Weapons have had their description updated.

surely that's not all after all we heard on the live stream? Right? It really sounded like a buff across the board to help with entry for new AX players.
Buff AX weapons? I hope you’re not talking about the Guardian stuff.

You are quite possibly correct when it comes to Steam, but how Steam works doesn't apply to everyone and the underlying product structure Frontier uses made it extremely unlikely that the Frontier launcher would mandate installing separate client versions, when only one was desired.

For the record, Odyssey and Horizons (4.0) are both in the launcher now and are the same product, but Legacy (3.8) is a separate download and those not using 3rd party launchers should not need to download both:

No worries, Patch 14 just got outed on youtube by some of Frontiers third columnists.
If only the patch had arrived in time!

No, AX weapons are human Anti Xenos weapons. Guardian weapons are Guardian weapons. They said on the stream they were buffing them damage on the human AX weapons to make it easier for players to partake. Buffing the AX missiles isn't going to change the barrier. It's effectively a non change; they don't help against scouts and will only slightly speed up fighting Cyclops, which is the cap before needing Guardian and Engineering. Which is fine to need them after a point, but that point is too soon for players that just want to help in AX combat without grinding Guardian stuff.

If they are actually buffing the damage values … well, let’s just say they don’t understand their own systems. Sigh.

Also you can very much kill a Basi without Guardian gear, and theoretically a Dusa :)

Indeed people are joking about the "legacy" systems holding on more than expected and at this stage, I half think (and more hope) the that or something similar is the case!

Partly I'm expecting an announcement that the games' network codes was stronger than expected and they can't cut the "legacy" systems off from Galnet and CGs without knocking all versions of the game offline or maybe even more so, that they were reading their contracts with Sony and Mirsosoft and they're not allowed to cut us off at such short notice, not without giving us our own Galnet, CGs etc and equivalents and or adding a significant amount of new content to "legacy" mode to make up for their loss!

Which would see us all playing together at least until update 15, anyway, only time will tell! 😯😂😀🤘🤞

You are quite possibly correct when it comes to Steam,

Apparently Frontier has changed their Steam profile to align with their own site's product. This is totally new

This is the first time that the Steam version has offered an upgrade button from within the launcher, so maybe Frontier has done the logical thing and removed the game files from Steam itself. I will miss Steam's faster download speeds, but at least I can keep playing LH without needing to install an additional 50GB of game files.

Now if only that button actually worked, LOL.

UPDATE - looks like it's downloading now! This is the first time I've ever seen the launcher install the update.

Hey guys, I open the launcher, the launcher tells me it needs to be upgraded. I download the client installer and run it. Then run the launcher again (the new one that was just installed) and nothing... I go back to the initial prompt that the launcher needs to be upgraded... Any tips?

Hey guys!
Can anyone assist me with the information about the actual time window of Server Maintenance of Update 14?
According to Update notice it seems it should complete approximately 15:00 UTC. But after updating the Lagacy Horizon (which I have installed) I am getting following server maintenance message repeatedly while starting the game.

Please let me know if anyone has any information.
Thanks.
