Update 14, nowhere near enough.

No one does it because it's not polished or flushed out in a gameplay-loop sence. Players who play this for more than 100 hours dont care about credits.
We want good experiences.

Piracy is an incomplete gameplay, needing a very specific build, NPC's and players only flee, there is no negotiation gameplay. And it's very hard for non-engineered ships to even hatchbreak and steal a few commodities.

Horizons combat has some very dumb AI doing very basic combat. On barren non evolving cenarios where only more enemies spawn without progression.

Signal sources are diffrent skins for the same: drop somewhere and find redundant loot gameplay.

The same can be said for most activities. They are just there, not really developed into an fully engaging and polished experience.
Programming wise, they are just random cenarious triggered by BGS that spawn basic interactions that are up to the player to make interesting.

For years I say that the main problem with this game is GAMEPLAY LOOPS not being full on designed, or polished.
New features or content keeps on being introduced without addressing old problems like balancing, loops, objectives, relationship among activities.

I like ED alot, but it looks like a project for simulation alot of times, and not a game.
This behaviour is a big flaw of game design.

Look at any other sandbox game. Those that are considered good, are not good because the sand box is very big with a lot of sand.
Its the ones that have good sand castles and holes for the player to explore. Doesnt matter how far the edges of the box are, but how the sand is distributed inside of it.

And if the problem is money, than it's time to re-think its capitalization methods on a way that does not affect current promises.
I really like the Ideas bihind the update, but it just adds more sand to the box.

I've said this in 2015. The activities needed to be much more complex, not difficult but complex. It took years to FD to add exploration and mining to a minimum gameplay standard.
The core activities are very simple and the gameplay loop is VERY short.

And then you have threads of people complaining about Odyssey, saying that Elite is a game fundamentally about flying in space, and that Odyssey has taken away from that so they want more of it.

This game is damned if it does, and damned if it doesn't.
Well, if they added VR on foot i could enjoy that too, and it would broaden the game ... just crazy ramblings here :D

Asked in other threads with no reply. Does any know if the Caustic Heatsink has been removed from the synthesis tab or is it just mine? Seen others with it on their synthesis tabs but it's not on mine. I know it can't be used yet, just wandering.

Unfortunately, yes. And I believe we all know how it got to this point - years of stagnation. With a string of letdowns and cuts over the years, coupled with what has always been a slow narrative and slow development, there will still be many people unsatisfied, barring an outrageously large and fleshed-out update that would essentially make up for lost time.

A median-sized update will just serve to highlight what should have been in the game years ago, even if it is objectively a nice update.
If an update actually underdelivers, well that's self-explanatory on how it will be received.

A Thargoid actually attacking a station should have been in the game when the Medusa arrived- when a station was first attacked. They should have been able to antagonize the forward outposts and stations that were investigating them on occasion in this fashion.

All that being said, yes the people who alternate complaining about lacking X or Y when an update is Y or X are ridiculous.

I'm not against the storyline, of course not. The gameplay is the sore spot of ED. Mechanical type of content is what's missing. I will not be adding any more ideas since I'm sorely dissapointed with community's attitude here (flow of fanbois defending the game's bad designs even when you dare to add a tiny QoL thing that wouldn't even be felt), but suggestion forums are full of them. Space wise - more ships, even pilotable cruisers, legs wise - boarding ships (even if you lock it to cruiser ships), exploring space wrecks, ground wrecks, leaving your ship to do small repairs in space, ground goid fights, imagination runs wild.
I can't like this enough. This would mean so much more depth to the game than what we already have.
Even something simple as being able to change the orientation of our FC would mean a fair bit. Let alone positioning it closer to a station, for refueling/loading/unloading.

After months of scratching my backside looking for things to do in-game, trying to show the game some loyalty, I'm afraid I've come to the conclusion that update 14 hasn't gone in any way towards making ED playable again, it's just a case of "same old, same old". Thargoid combat never rewarded you with anything worthwhile, all you got was money and who needs money? I have billions of credits with nothing to buy with it, so ultimately what's the point?
I was hoping the Frontier was going to provide one, but they've failed miserably and we're expected to wait for future patches to give us something that they might not even have on their agenda.

My friend and I will still keep playing, but at a reduced tempo to reflect the overall disappointment of the release which have to the conclusion that we can sum up update 14 in one word....

"Meh"
Sounds like you need another hobby. It was billed as a narrative patch, not a new expansion.

I ran out of content in WoW, too. After 7,000 hours. I consider that a success not "meh."

I'm not saying these patches are giant new gameplay chunks, but I'm not paying a sub either, so...

I certainly have as many amazing ideas as the next ten pilots, but development has clearly stopped, but for a skeleton crew. But, again, so has the draw on my wallet...
