[*]The 'Switch Roles' button will now be greyed out if your SRV is carrying more cargo than the ship has capacity for

this is FAB news.... SRV was always meant to be supported in MC, i had no idea it was being enabled again for 2.31.

this is the best news in the update imo, and no means the trailer from a few months back is no longer a lie.

the cake is NOT a lie!.

Greetings o wise and seasoned commanders of PC Master race. I, Pi, am eagerly awaiting the release of ED on my lowly potato I call PS4. We are a simple and economical people, seeking only to carve our own paths in the Galaxy. We have been awaiting this day for a considerable time.

Any word on if the PS4 patch has been cleared by Sony for pre-launch download? Our mysterious overlords sometimes... well, they tend to screw up launch patches with endless rolls of red tape.

Don't get your hopes up, the notes don't specifically state that MC SRV functionality is being added.

I really hope it is, though.

Extended server downtime + short list of changes do not match. :) I wonder what the size of the patch will be.

Be thankful this isn't CIG..that update would be 30gb + ...I'm surprised though FDEV ..doesn't have the capacity to get the core engine updated then just import the player asset server quicker than 8hrs +

However and whatever..good luck with the updating guys..no doubt the tech heads will have lots of tea and biscuits delivered by hand from the trolley dolly...you do have a tea lady I trust guys.?

Looking forward to enjoying the improved bits and bobs

Thanks for keeping us informed

Nothing public that I've seen. This is a pretty major item for them, though, since the last space sim game on their platform sort of imploded. I'm guessing they're carefully keeping the red tape to a minimum.

There is never a "just" in large databases like any game such as Elte has. Everything has to be carefully planned, managed, and watched. And as BrettC has said, the DB is huge which means a lot of "basic" tasks take quite a while. None of this stuff is nearly as trivial as you think.

So only players who have decided to create a faction around Colonia will have the pleasure of playing for it, other players that waiting for months are not important enough for FD ????..... How much we have to wait again.... ?????

Exactly, I hope you're wrong but we've been waiting for months on end.

Wait... Does this mean that the SRV finally becomes able to multi crew? *holds breath*

Hoping so

As a dyed in the wool console player, I can say that the ultimate fate of a game can often inferred by the stability and ease of access on launch day. But FD is already doing a great job with transparency and are clearly showing urgency in getting us online, included and acclimated.

Here's to the future and new adventures. (salute)

Not exactly. The Colonia factions are part of the rewards for participating in the Colonia Migration community goals. They are a community goal reward just like credit rewards from participating in other CGs.

The Bubble factions are giveaways but have to be researched to make sure they don't overlap existing player minor factions, conflict with the existing government types in the desired system or otherwise conflict with existing lore.

The big difference is that, where Colonia is concerned, we're talking about populating previously colonized systems where none of these conflicts exist. The Colonia factions also did not get their choice of system. Frontier Developments did.

Comparing the Colonia factions to the Bubble PMFs is like comparing apples to oranges.

No. It means that that item was put under the wrong heading in the patch notes. It appeared under the "SRV" heading in the beta patch notes and has nothing to do with MC.

I really hope they got a good backup system in place. [where is it]
In any case, there is different ways of doing things when it comes to patching of any kind and it all comes down to what infrastructure you picked when you started to build it. Most MMO like games takes this time to upgrade with one very specific exception. Guild Wars 2. An upgrade there, a large one, takes about 10 minutes or rather the time it takes for you to download the data to your client. On the server side its already done once they announce the patch simply due to their instance buildup. The drawback with that system is you might end up where your friends are not.

I can however imagine that the database for Elite is rather huge considering how many solar systems it has to keep track of. Its not like back with Elite 1984... *Dreams back to a happy childhood*

With that said, do a good job, do a good job. [yesnod] Not a fast one.

*goes back to dream about cruising around in space in my huge Beluga Liner*

You will be assimilated ;)
