Update 5 Performance Thread

Looking at the ground in the concourse on ultra and a DESK FAN RUNNING AT FULL TILT POINTED AT MY GPU.

I'm all for science but don't blow out your graphics card. They are kind of difficult to replace at the moment. @Trailstorm

I tried the 3Dmigoto shader mod (turning off glass shaders), and saw immediate jumps in FPS. I definitely wouldn't say that's the ONLY problem with Odyssey currently, but it's pretty low hanging fruit.

Dont worry, I'm getting a new PC anyways. Doubt it will be able to run EDO even with it's RTX 3080 and i9 10 core processor

Worst performance yet on settlements, hands down. While the general FPS is the same (still pretty low for my beefy equipment) there are now some MASSIVE FPS drops/stutters. Turns Elite into a slide show for about up to 3 seconds.

Seems I had the best performance back shortly after launch. Seems to be getting worse not better sadly.

So, Update 5 brings a lot of great on the table, but new performance issues as well.

Setup: RTX 2060 OC, i7-8600, 32 GB RAM
Game setup: Low, lowest of the low, 2560×1080

FPS:
  • Stations: 50--80 FPS
  • Settlements: 45--60 FPS, but sometimes 15--20, it just stutters.

There are few of my videos where I am describing that issue:

And so on.
Yep I've been getting this slideshow mode thing randomly since update 5 too. I gained a little performance in general: Up to 35-40 in stations from around 30 and settlements gained a couple FPS average. The random drops where everything grinds to a halt makes it virtually unplayable though.

IVE DONE SOME TESTING
setting Fidelity on with 100 intensity then using super sample 0.75 its not bad.

in stations i was getting 45fps, with CAS on i get 60 nice an smooth

and on screen you don't get the grain, that's my camera

AMD Fidelity FX did improve a bit on how low the frame rate would drop but it did also made the image quality quite worse below 0.85x SMAA, specially edge aliasing... (running in 4K)

A good compromise for me was keeping 0.85x SMAA with FX slider to the max.

Odyssey is very far from being optimized to the bare minimum and still a long way to be considered "playable".

Modest pc here: Nvidia 1060, Intel 3770K. I've had no complaints all the way through from Alpha, on the face of it Update 5 was fine, then in settlements, something I've not had before, suddenly the framerate will drop to the speed of somebody quickly changing 35mm slides, for a few seconds, then it's okay if a bit stuttery, till the next time. When it starts it seems to happen for a few seconds with a gap between 30 seconds and a couple of minutes. Given that I've had nothing like this before, maybe the issue is easier to identify?

Asus 3080 RTX, Intel 9700K i7, 16 GB RAM, W10, all drivers updated here. Since Update 5 I'm getting multiple crashes to desktop in Odyssey, usually when viewing the system map. The game starts stuttering, the sound then stutters too, and wham - back to desktop.

Hey, yeah, this is happening to a lot of us. There's a report of it at
Go vote... Cause apparently getting bugs fixed is a competition now.

May be a coincidence but devs could check this, after a short freeze the game loaded planet's surface soil over the room floor.

CPU Intel i5-6600K GPU Nvidia 1080Ti 32GB DDR4 Ram @ 2400 2560x1080 res SMAA 1.0x FidelityFX enabled shadows high. All other settings on maximum so mostly Ultra. Capped at 90fps.

Outpost concourse between 62-68 fps. Station concourse 51-66 avg 57. Just ended a session at an agricultural settlement (HAB+POW joined with the STO rear left) 12 npcs present at start. Consistent fps between 60-66. Ships also coming and going. Best I have seen yet. Finding the FidelityFX surprisingly good, loads of extra detail I have not seen before.

Have experienced the 'hitching' at a certain mining settlement only once so far. (patch 5 issue)

Need to check large settlements and conflict zones.
