Update 9.01 - Patch Notes

I have just scanned this Frutexa Acus.

I could not scan the same plant right next to it.

The size and shape of only the largest "shrub" is scannable. It probably has something to do with whether it is considered a "solid" in the environment. Most of the organics that can't be driven over with a scarab or stepped upon seem to be the ones affected by the broken scanner.

Hi all - we're continuing to look into issues with the genetic sampler - can I get a sitrep on Fire Groups post 9.01?

How many of you are still seeing issues with Fire Group management and what are they? Bullet point answers if possible please!
Just swapped to a ship I haven't used for a month or two.

  • The fire groups are empty.
  • There are 3 blank columns in the fire groups A, B & +
  • I can move the cursor freely around the blank columns.
  • No issues with setting weapons and scanners into groups (other than not being sure I have them how they were)
  • The fire groups remained as set above after exiting to the desktop and restarting.
So my only issue seems to be the wiping of the fire groups, I did have a management issue with my Scorpion on day 1 but that went away after logging to main menu.

I don't intend to visit all my ships to reset their fire groups until I need to use that ship in a vain bit of wishful thinking that the settings will miraculously return.

I had the very same FG issues yesterday, but with an annoying caveat. I was unable to reassign mods. I was locked out.
switched to another ship, FGs were not reset. I could access things fine. Rinse and repeat, other ships fine too. Game crashed a couple times.
Rebooted the game, joy! I began reassignment procedures, half way through, no joy. Reboot and finish procedure. Weird stuff, though annoying! No issues today. I’m back to murder, mayhem, looting, burning and pillaging, oh and playing ED too (😉😋😜)

The unscannable bodies at settlements behave similarly, i.e. seem to have a hitbox.

I going to drink some tea for a few more days until the next update of the broken firmware for my bioscanner. At least a starset on this planet is beautiful.

If I select a ship with lots of modules (eg mining ship), selecting fire control groups give multiple blank columns.
In previous version of Elite, the first column and a "+" column. The latter required the first column to have entries before you could add another column.
This suggests that there's a mismatch between the information saved and the displays - perhaps the save files show "n" columns of fire groups, but the actual entries have been wiped.

One test would be to start with a new ship, add modules then allocated fire control groups. Then swap ships, relog and return to the new ship.
I'll try it later

I'm sure Frontier does it best to fix the major issues before holidays and everything that can't be done is too big to solve till the holidays.
Of course I'm a bit disapointed as I just started to get into Exobiology in the dark and now I'm luring into a very lucrative system with a couple of planets with lifeforms until I can sample them all. Luckily I can sample a few of the lifeforms at least (nearly half of them) but currently I still have to do on this system. I'll cross fingers for us and myself and wish Frontier good luck.

In general, most aspects of the game work perfect for me and I'm happy that it exists and I can sink a few hours to come down after a hard day.
And for this, I want to say "Thank you" to Frontier.
Things will be better, I'm very sure and I have patience :)

Hi Pigletslastand,
so you mean me? I just can say that I had a longer break from ED and just returned a couple of days ago. As I'm facing the biological sampling issue, I've decided to participate the discussion as I do in the Facebook Group as well. I also want to involve myself a bit more in the community. That's it... for this I've registered to the forum today.

All but two and a half life forms can be scanned.

But it's not only the problem with the non-scannable bio-signals, it's also the assignments of the fire groups of all the ships that have disappeared. If they can't be restored, I don't want to play the game any more.

I can totally understand your frustration. Strangely the fire groups in my Asp Explorer stay all the time. I just had to assign them once when I've first login since months (a couple of days ago). My settings for the discovery scanners remain since this day but I didn't checked this for weapons as I had no use for them till now. Let's hope that this is working for all commanders again soon :)

In repeated testing yesterday if you have no weapons on your ship you are unable to set your firegroups. So imagine the frustration of explorers that aren't carrying a mining laser suddenly having no way to honk or scan and stuck in a place where buying a weapon isn't an option. Lucky for you they work but that isn't the same for most.

Oh then I've luck that I've two small laser on my Asp. I wasn't aware that this helps with the issue. Wow, that is really a mess if you're deep in space without opportunity to get a weapon to avoid this problem. Let's hope that this issue is fixed soon.

Testing update:-
At Shinrata
Bought a Federal dropship.
Equipped fully (mostly stored modules) so full armament.
Finished outfitting - message "allocate fire groups"
Fire groups had just 2 weapons as "1" - these are the default ones in the first column.
The rest of the weapons could be allocated as desired - including adding extra columns.
Changed to my Hauler (existing ship)
Fire groups locked. (but correct number of columns).
Logout, Login
Hauler fire groups can be managed.
Changed to Dropship - fire groups work correctly.
Changed to exiting type 10 (Mining ship) - fire groupps (A-H) work OK
Back to Hauler - fire groups still locked.

It seems odd that a ship with no fire groups allocated doesn't have the "allocate fire groups" message...
