Update 9.01 - Patch Notes

I learned this last night. Scanning things I'd see stuff like

?? BACTERIAL COLONIES ??

And just thought it was a weird thing where the DSS was being vague. Turns out I hadn't assigned keybinds to the filters, so my days of tediously wandering around an entirely blue body looking for things might be over!
Yeah, the game uses ?? as a placeholder if you don't have an action bound to a button, and it's really confusing. When Update 8 released I wondered how the hell I was supposed to respond to "SWITCH TO EMOTES??" on the item wheel...
It'd be nice if they changed it to something more helpful.

I hope so :)

But I do think so. Without scanning with the DSS I wouldn't even know about the 3 bio signals and also the surface wouldn't be blue (which is the typical DSS display colour of the surface). But what makes you think I'm not in the DSS? DSS = Default Surface Scanner which you can clearly see is active on the right side of the Hud.
Because I know what the DSS looks like when you're using it. You need to press the button for the fire group you have assigned it to, to get to the overlay where you can aim and fire the probes. Only when you are in that state can you change filters.

(just a side note so you know, and not in any other way than that, DSS = Detailed Surface Scanner)

Ok then, I don't have a prove for that right now, you just would have to believe me. I DID scan with the Detailed (my fault about the naming) Surface Scanner. I'll jump back and try to do it once more then. I'll apologise in case I screwed it, other wise it's your turn... ;)
After you map the body in DSS you don't quit the DSS - there you have option to flip through bio or geo signals (make sure you have working keybind for that)

NO! Its just an issue for me created by this patch. Nothing more. I have other things I can do.
I didn't mean it that personally, but a lot of the comments I've seen about the bug seem to center around SLF fighters and turrrets not doing what they're supposed to do when people go AFK bounty hunting.

You definitely did scan the planet yes.

Once you scan it, it shows how many signals there are in the info panel on the top right of the page, and in the top middle of the page it shows you what signal is making the Blue heat map you can currently see. In order to swap between those signals and the heatmap that is displayed you need to still be in that view.

Dear devs (community managers and active developing team - they are all devs) Thank you for your hard work through this weekend too! I hope it didn't ruin all of your weekend. The end of last week was crazy, with the fleet carrier leek (and that "emergency "walkthrough) the whole turned out to be a fantastic juggling act.

Most of the ship combat I still do is in CZs and even though it was annoying not being able to immediately identify attackers, I wouldn't call it game breaking right away.
Possibly not game breaking, but depending on what ship and what situation you are in, it could be disconcerting not to know who is shooting at you. It also seems to break other things, like some ships you attack not reacting at all.

Oh, crap, I see it now. It's not like this is the first time I've done this, but I can hardly believe how I missed it after the first scan! Maybe I really wasn't myself yesterday. Been too sober for too long, I guess (I'm working on it right now)...
I had already apologised, hadn't I?
Hehe, no need to apologise we all have the wood for the trees moments.

Update: Fire Groups sort of works. You can create new groups and you can delete new groups. HOWEVER, what you can't do is delete existing groups pre U9. My setup on my Python is that pre U9 A to E was filled in then it all went blank. Now I can create F and delete F BUT cannot delete A to E.

Yeah, I thought so too when I discovered this last week...I've found that flying about 50m off the ground is about the easiest way to find things...as long as the surface content of the body stays around long enough to see it...in my experience, it blips in and out of visibility as I fly around...

EDIT: Oh and mine were already bound to "Q" and "E".
