Edit: It's a shame, because I wanted to inform them that the settlement loading hitches and freezes that they fixed in Update 8 are back again in Update 9. Even the performance in abandoned settlements has taken a turn for the worse on my system.

It's a question of using the appropriate medium for an announcement. Forum posts are great for long announcements, discussion threads and stuff that isn't urgent or time critical. Not so good for one off posts telling people that the servers are going down in 15 minutes, because people don't check them that often.

We can at the very least be thankful that they are releasing us a patch today and have been clearly working their butts off for us as this was all work that was unexpected for them to do, so thanks for that.
