Update on Communication

Teleporting and vignetting is popular for VR casuals, not for dedicated VR players. Most people who stick with VR for more than a few minutes get their VR legs pretty quickly, and don't need the crutches. It's not like Odyssey has lightning fast movement or anything on foot.
Indeed, which is why it would be needed in this game, isn't the majority of players casuals?

Me, I play anything in VR with no issues, but have read (on other fora) that some players never get over motion sickness... So you case is not watertight, sorry.

It isn't as if EDO doesn't have fast movement on foot? How many surface CZs have you played? They are quite fast-moving!

I mean, I've played quite a lot of VR and I feel comfortable with non-teleport movement, but not with fluid turning. I still use snap turning because it doesn't trigger motion sickness.

Does that make me some sort of "git gud" casual or are we not going to be arbitrarily rude about peoples' tolerance of vertigo?

I’m pretty sure that the delays in communication are due to them wanting the fleet carrier innards to be perfect and for the Panthe Clipper to be ready to launch….

I thought we might see something today too, but I'm really thinking they're holding out for a big reveal at their event tomorrow. After tomorrow we're going to have one of two things. We'll either know whatever the big, flashy new things are that they're planning that they will reveal to the attendees, or we'll have lots of stories from the attendees over how uncomfortable the event was with all the silence. Either one is going to be fodder for the forums.
Welp, I was wrong about a big reveal. Waiting for some stories from the event, but I’m getting rid of my crystal ball when it comes to frontier. It’s obviously busted.

I know right. I've tried to defend FDEV at every turn, even in this thread yet they still have failed to do the bleeding obvious given the lack of information of any consequence since before Christmas. While it is true we've seen Update 10 in that time (with some hotfixes), and at least Arf did reach out the once, the oh so obvious opportunity to regain some faith from a frustrated community would have been either to give a Dev Update in the last couple of days to provide people with something to talk about at the meet, or to use the meet to actually give some meaningful news. Even with Arf out of sorts, Sally fighting her own foe, and maybe one or two others unwell, there are still those working in FDEV who could have temporarily filled the void. I, for one, am tired to trying to stand up for them against the cynicism, negativity and never ending speculation.

None of it makes me love the game less, nor will it drive me to leave the game at all, but it just gets so damn hard to keep standing up for them sometimes.

At this point, it's obvious there's something bigger happening behind the scenes that's tying their hands on talking.

Whether that's a whole or partial sale of the company (and so they're unable to announce anything that might alter the share price up or down during the process), or something else, it's obvious from the sudden silence and that very, very carefully-worded post by Arthur, that the community managers are pinned in a corner by orders from on high, perhaps even by the intricacies of business law.

The "obvious opportunity" is almost certainly something that needs to be navigated with extreme caution, for one reason or another.

I would agree.. That would be my best guess too.

You might be right, but if you look at Planet Zoo, the CMs on that team are still active and the game is releasing updates. If FDev has shut all communications down on ED because they don't want us to think the last gen consoles are likely to be dropped, well that horse has bolted.

Planet Zoo and Planet Coaster didn't recently release an expansion that caused enormous technical issues for the game and was loudly shouted down by its player community. Ergo, Planet Zoo and Planet Coaster aren't being watched like hawks for further development, and aren't going to affect the share price.

Also, from what I've seen, the community engagement for those games are a bit like the community engagement that used to be Supercruise News. You know, that thing where FDev tried to highlight the goings-on in the community and different aspects of the game itself. That thing that we collectively told them we didn't like because it seems like all we want to do is badger them for more and faster updates until... I dunno, we emotionally exhaust them into releasing on consoles faster?

I don't know what the plan is, but basically FDev tried to maintain that same communication last year on a weekly basis, and we went "NO, ONLY DEV UPDATES OR BE QUIET." And so here we are, with quiet.

Just goes to show how little progress they are making.. even if they are working devilishly hard behind the scenes there's very little to show for it.. and when live streams are just showcasing what the community is doing, it's basically freeloading off the efforts of the community and not they themselves. More of a "Hey look at the cool things you've done this week" rather than a "Hey look at the cool things we've done for you this week" Like fixing the damn game!!

It's appalling the number of things that have been left unfinished and broken. I'm glad they are staying quiet coz until they actually have something good to share with us they can't keep grinning and saying the game is rosy. Hello Games stayed quiet and fixed their game in the meantime. Here's hoping Fdev will do the same.

I think you may need this.

I didn't think that the we all shouted that. Personally, because of the communication and the updates we were getting,"player sentiment" was changing towards the positve. You could see that in the Steam charts and the steam reviews. I know that the livestreams were ruined by people always asking about console Odyssey. However, if they thought that going the NMS route of not talking, just releasing content would be beneficial to the game, then I'm afraid that's backfired and the "player sentiment" has gone the other way.

There's a lot of speculation of that those unanswered questions which have caused the communication blackout. It could be one of the following options;-

1. They could be in the process of porting Odyssey to consoles but don't want to talk about it until its ready (They've done that before).
2. They could have attempted to port Odyssey but it was too much of a tough nut to crack and they've yet to tell us.
3. They're going to sunset the whole game.

Obvious, I'd love it to be option 1; but after FDev's results, some of the comments by their stockbroker, the comms blackout, and fdev's reputation to let features wither on the vine; I'm preparing myself for option 3. I normally don't do DOOM (tm) but until we get reassurance, it looks like I'll have to look at SC or NMS for my space fix later in the year, which is heartbreaking to even consider.
