Update on Communication

I think you may need this.

At this point, it's obvious there's something bigger happening behind the scenes that's tying their hands on talking.

Whether that's a whole or partial sale of the company (and so they're unable to announce anything that might alter the share price up or down during the process), or something else, it's obvious from the sudden silence and that very, very carefully-worded post by Arthur, that the community managers are pinned in a corner by orders from on high, perhaps even by the intricacies of business law.

The "obvious opportunity" is almost certainly something that needs to be navigated with extreme caution, for one reason or another.
Oh I quite agree. I don't blame the CMs themselves, just critical of those expecting them to placate an increasingly frustrated playerbase while gagged.

I don't know what the plan is, but basically FDev tried to maintain that same communication last year on a weekly basis, and we went "NO, ONLY DEV UPDATES OR BE QUIET." And so here we are, with quiet.
Very true, there were absolutely no requests for information on topics like what performance was needed on PC before console development could start, for example. Literally no one clamoured for that repeatedly … got shut down repeatedly … got told “they’ll be news when there is news, you can’t possibly expect anything else” … nope, we all said “please don’t give us information” …

Oh no, there were several requests for that. Constantly. Endlessly. And the same answer was given multiple dozen times over months. It wasn't the desired answer, so the question kept being asked, over and over and over again. And the answer was interpreted, as you said, as "shutting down the conversation" and not as an answer.

The message sent to the CMs by the players on every stream was "We do not care about anything you're doing on this stream unless you're saying what the status of consoles is." So they've done what we've said we want. And now we get silence.

So for all our sakes, I do hope that when they come back it's with an answer to that so that we can all move on with our lives.

No matter what answer they come up with on that a vocal fraction of the forum will be unhappy loudly enough that things here will seem much the same.

As for the sweepstake my pick is.
The next working day.

As I've said before, you can't blame people for being people. This behaviour was very easy to anticipate, particularly given the time that's passed since the Braben post, which effectively pressed the reset button on the console time line.

Blaming the customers for their behavior is to willfully ignore frontiers abdication of responsibility to put at least some effort into telling their customers what's going on with a massively overdue and troubled development project.

And all this takes place whilst CM s constantly promise the community things and fail to deliver them.

It's no wonder the forum dwellers are such a surly bunch.

@Fizzatron, i've seen numbers that suggest it is indeed a much larger share of Xbox users vs PS4, and i know MS has been trying to empty it's coffers for a while now.

In relation to the wider comms problem, the passion has always been very high around here (Elite being the beloved game it is by many here) and i guess the complication of the consoles issue has just made Frontiers job that much harder.
