I'm no marketing expert and all but I'd think if FDev go down this route, would this really be the best way to keep player engagement high?
It works fine for SP games with barely any changes in-game, but with an MMO (lite) game like Elite, such a "you won't hear from us until you do" approach might make it easier for people to disengage completely and just move on to something else (which is perhaps not a bad thing for those people's mental state

) who won't pay attention to weekly events and cosmetics sales (i.e. £££ for Frontier) any longer as a side-effect.
