Update on Communication

Unless, of course, the shutters close during the jump itself 🤭 Hope I didn't jinx it now

you need to buy transparent protective shutters at the store to see?

I hope it's different...if not for some in lore reason then just for aesthetics. But what would the in-lore reason potentially be? And what would we see that's different?

Would we see hyperspace the way it was written about as a kind of alternate version of space where physics behaved differently in some manners but the same in others. With objects that exist within hyperspace alone, and not in our normal space at all. Or would we see it as just a play on the tunnel effect?

Too much teasing players leads to them demanding more and getting upset when it can't be delivered. That's what makes me lean more towards it being exactly (more or less) the same as the normal ship jump corridor.

I'll probably not see it for a while as I'm nowhere near credits wise to afford one. And don't play with others so will have to rely on Youtube to tell me what it's like. But yeah, it would be nice if it's a 'new' experience so to speak, in theory it shouldn't be too much effort...

...

Edit: Oh no, I just read the other thread! U11 delayed, what am I gonna do tomorrow now. I've bought stock in imperial salt mines, stocked up on Lavian brandy, and already prepared 10kg of popcorn...
The demand for salt is pretty much guaranteed to increase over time so the stocks will do OK, the delay is only a few days and the pop corn will keep for months unfortunately the Lavian brandy will of course have spoiled before the day after tomorrow so will have to be drunk before then.

I'll just get the Mugs, For The Mug.

Oh well, i will miss most if not all those streams - at that hour i'm still at work :/
Most live programming is usually better when watched as a repeat because you can skip all the boring stuff you aren't interested in. I am sure I read somewhere that these were going to be available later as a recording.

Frameshift Live is available now - I just watched it and it is supposed to be a weekly stream at 16:00 UTC(GMT) and will be available after.
Consisted of updates, live stream FC jump and settlement gameplay by Arf and talk about future guests and content, phew!!!
Good to have ANY communication at all, at the moment.
WD Bruce and Arf! and of course all te CM's and VM's.

Greetings Commanders,

I want to speak directly about the lack of official streams and reduced communications from our social channels since the start of 2022. I understand the concerns this has caused and hope this statement goes some way to alleviate them.

The whole team are excited to share all of the upcoming content for this year including new updates, content expansions and the next major phase in the ongoing narrative following the Azimuth Saga finale. Beyond this, we also look forward to sharing our new streaming format when the series returns as a weekly show. Changes will include new segments, year-round Twitch Drop campaigns and studio-quality production once we move back into the office.

However, there are several questions that must be answered internally to inform this communication plan. It is important to me that we address key subjects by priority and when we do that the information we provide is clear. The team and I are working incredibly hard behind the scenes to gather this information and provide these answers.

As always, the team and I are grateful for your patience and support while we wait for the opportunity to share all of the above with you. We will update you with more detail as soon as we can.

See you in the black o7.

This didn't age well :)

Is this still happening? Or is it out the window along with what Braben said last July about open monthly dev and issue tracker updates?
I watched the latest stream from Frontier and they are re-presenting information that's already available, but there was no information on future developments. It may be another tricky subject that Frontier are musing on how to present.

This year (and maybe subsequent years) I'm expecting story 'content' and quality of life updates at best. Maybe Frontier are investigating the next big feature set, but even if they are, that will be years away.

The steam player numbers (for those that set any store by them) are not looking pretty considering, it appears, that Frontier now think Odyssey is good enough.

Although I suspect more is coming, I'm also thinking FD are really, really concerned about what comes next and 'getting it right', because its that (rather than the two year, very expensive dev wise expansion in Odyssey) that will grow the game. EDO so far has not grown (player numbers wise) the game at all, so anything new in the future will have to attract new players and retain old ones for as little outlay as possible.

If FD hit more bum notes its going to get messy so it will be interesting what that will be.

Although, I think update 11 has been one of the best updates for quite a while, I'm hoping that we hear about new stuff soon. I'm not bothered about plot (I'd like to keep that as a surprise) and I don't think we're going to get any more huge features like Fleet Carrier interiors this year (so no more ships but I'd like to be surprised), but I would like to know about fdev adding;-
  • 'space content' to on foot missions.
  • reworking of engineering.
  • reworking of Crime and Punishment
  • reworking Powerplay (I'd like CQC as well but I've given up on that).
  • the upgrade of Beyond to use the Odyssey engine (which will be a whole load of new salt but necessary if the game is to have a future).
  • Obviously more optimisation/bug fixes.
The drop off in steam numbers could be explained as people are running out of things to do (i.e. they've either engineered all their suits and weapons or found the grind too much) or they feel they've played out the existing content and are waiting for the next big thing to drop. Personally, I've still got tonnes of content/missions in Odyssey still to try
but I feel that the community needs reassurance about the future of Elite.

Good list. I'd personally add to it:

- Proper VR implementation in Odyssey on foot
- Anti Aliasing improvements announced ages ago
