"upgrading" from Clipper to Python has been underwhelming so far

FDL and Clipper are on par, the Python is simply more powerful.

Agree (probably why I prefer it), but from an effectivity in CZ view I still think they're comparable. The Clipper gains some kills/hour with its advantage in speed when hunting new targets, but looses a little in taking down big targets with 2L/2M setup.

Alright, I'm building an A grade Anaconda, if I'm gonna build a huge brick of death, might as well go all the way. (posting while waiting an eternity for the shields to charge before leaving the station)

Clipper: Fast, agile, weak shields
Python: Slow but 2nd best shields in game (when using SCBs)

Flying solo in a CZ it doesn't really matter which ship you choose. A decently upgraded Asp is enough to rack up the kills in a solo CZ.

Just fly what you enjoy most, unless you want to fight other players, in which case get a Python.

I have a D/C grade Anaconda. It craps on just about everything from a great height as it is!

You're trying to fly the Python the same way you flew the Clipper, no doubt. And trying to use the third large hardpoint for the same weapon as the other two.

2 Large lasers (I find gimballed burst is best; use for attacking powerplants on large ships)
2 Medium turrets (I prefer beam lasers; use for swatting fighters that the Python, which has more trouble lining up shots for non-turrets even than the Anaconda, takes too long to target)
1 Large PA (under the nose)

Make sure you A-rate everything too, or you won't have the tankiness that the Python needs, and it'll fly... no, it won't fly, it'll just kinda fart around if you don't get the thrusters A-rated.

make sure you load up with SCBs and shield boosters too.

After the nerf I consider the Python a trade combat ship.

With 2 turret beam (class2) your power will be

1) depleted in less than 5 maybe 6 second and you'll not be able to fire with other weapon energy

2) you'll go with heat problem.

And this from an A fitted python (51 milion and you can sustain no more than 2 beam laser?? Comeon...)

It's true: you can fit the python with scb and you can improve the shield (but they are not so tough: anytime i face a clipper 1 level of my shield go down): it's a good tank but definitly not a warship. I would definitly say it's an heavy trade ship but, again, not a combat ship
And in my opinion, from a ship whose value is over 130 Milions you should expect more...

Conda is much better a combat ship compared to python in my opinion

(deadly status and flown the python for over 5 months)

Also

I've been flying Clippers for months, and I decided to try the Python for CZ, maybe the extra large hard point will help me kill stuff faster.

Turns out, it doesn't feel that way at all, the energy capacitor seems to drain faster, so you only do more damage in that initial burst, the turn speed is so slow it is hard to keep the aim at the small ships, and since the speed is also slow, enemy ships just run away from you and going from one target to another is also slower.

I also got my canopy broken as soon as the shields went down, didn't even have time to finish of an NPC Clipper before I had to jump out, I recall the Clipper giving a bit more margin.

It feels that the only thing this ship has over the Clipper is the ability to dock in outposts. I'll probably run a few tests with actual numbers to compare the moneymaking with the Clipper, but lest just say I'm far from sold, plus the lack of style is the biggest problem

First I'd have to say it seems you are flying a low grade Python with weapons that are too power hungry for it´s current power plant.
It is not clear what weapons you use, but it sounds like they might be 3 size 3 beams?

You just need to fit the weapons that fit the power you can supply them with.
That is nothing the Python can be blamed for.
It is the responsibility of the commander :).

Ships in ED are a very personal thing. I love my Python although it has it´s shortcomings, the vulnerable canopy being one of them.
I hope that in the future we will be able to upgrade canopies. The Python really needs it.

Turn speed is low, although you can use boost to speed it up in certain situations.
When confronted with agile ships this can be a problem.
I have been experimenting a lot with weapon configurations for the Python and I found turrets to be the solution for it´s slow turning speed.
I have outfitted my heavily armoured Python with turrets in every hard point.
You lose damage output, but in practice this does not matter, because you can keep firing continuously at agile targets.
They can not outmaneuver turrets.

I have killed dozens of Clippers with my Python. One on one they can not beat my Python.
They can run away, which I consider to be a win for me.

If lack of style is your biggest problem, then there´s nothing I can say.
Style is personal taste.
The Clipper is a great ship to fly, but personally I am not a fan of her looks, with that grossly oversized canopy.

It depends on the situation. I personally love to take out elite Anacondas in my Python in Warzones.
There is also a slight difference in price to be considered. A basic Anaconda is almost three times the price of a basic Python.

I was always a bit underwhelmed with the python.. weirdly, I prefer combat in my anaconda than a python, but really the python is your generic do everything good kinda ship. It dosent excel at one thing in particular. Personally, for combat, I reckon the FDL kicks its butt.. but thats just my biased view, a lot of people hate the FDL. If you liked the clipper, you might like the FDL more than the python. But forget trading in it. Get an ASP and trade in that instead, thats what I used to do. lol

i found that this just drains the power far to quickly, i have found that the pule lasers are more effective at taking down bigger ships as you can keep continious fire on them and it takes less time to bring down a condas shieldsas you dont need to worry about overheating, and power recharging ( also all A class)

If you load out the Python with Multi-cannons, you can run full pips to shields in combat and it becomes quite an impenetrable tank. The Multi-cannons still do as much DPS as a pulse laser, just not quite as good and dropping shields.

Let us know how you get on...interested in doing this myself.

Python is three large fixed lasers. You're not using your strengths properly if you let those perfect hardpoints go to waste.

That does sound interesting, but do you use that setup in warzones too?
Wouldn't you run out of ammo too quickly?

I have three beam lasers in the large hardpoints and no capacitor issues whatsoever. Yes, they run dry fast. But I have time to recharge, because the enemy is usually dead by then.

I have played around with many, many loadouts for my Pythons, and have settled on the following for PvE:-

Firegroup 1 - Upper two large turret beams
Firegroup 2 - Lower large Pulse gimbaled, upper two medium pulse gimbaled.

Open up with firegroup two, which with four pips to weapons will fire for a long, long time (never timed it, but barely drains). If target closes to jousting, switch to firegroup 1 and let the turrets track the target as it flies over (ensure the target does not go beneath your ship). If the target is small (up to vulture/cobra), ensure that that it remains in the firing arc for the two large turrets, if you see the hits drop off they have deployed chaff, so stop firing until you have visually reacquired the target and can manually aim with firegroup two. Repeat until dead. For larger targets, alternate between the firegroups, with the odd burst of both for the quick kill (watch the heat). If overheating, drop to firegroup two only, which will allow the weapons subsystem to cool (slowly).

Whilst I like kinetics for the faster kill, once that ammo is gone, it's gone, so either re-arm time or a slow loiter with remaining energy weapons. I have stuck a pure energy loadout for PvE (CZ/RES/Assassination etc.) for quite some time, I find it ticks all my required boxes for about 90% of the time, including those pesky "Mostly Harmless" Pythons which seem to constitute about 80% of the assassination targets I get given. Soak uo the wing fire, get the kill, bug-out.

Yeah, the Python surely isn't what it used to be, after getting nerfed into the ground and all. I wouldn't bother if you're a Clipper fan.

Not Anacondas or other pythons...

Neither is your setup capable of destroying those with a single charge lol.

The damage three fixed beam lasers put on those however is very strong. Usually I can take the shields down before SCBs kick in.

Don't tell me about what it 'will' be, I've actually used that loadout in combat. First, no, the class 2 turret beams fire practically forever on the A7 distributor. I can target a cobra, start firing, and as long as I don't let him get beneath me, I can just keep those beams going till he pops.
It would only drain my power in 6 seconds if I fired the gimballed c3 bursts at the same time--which I don't do, because it's unnecessary and drains the power. I use my weapons wisely.

Second, no, I've never had a heat problem with the Python. Not once. Probably because I don't try to fire all my weapons at the same darn time. Class 2 turrets for small ships; Class 3 gimbals are my mainstay against larger ships; the PA supplements them against subsystems when I can line up a shot.

Third, you didn't even read my loadout did you? You saw "beam lasers" and made up the rest in your head. I use 2 medium beam lasers, 2 large burst lasers and a class 3 PA.

What the devil did you do, buy a stock Python, stick weapons on it, leave the internals as they were and decide you'd seen it all? Yes, it's worse since the nerf, but still usable.

And, finally, yes, the Anaconda is, definitely a better combat ship. I own one of those too, it's lethal. But you can't really afford one on what you'd pay for a Python now can you?!?! The OP doesn't have enough credits to fit a Conda for combat yet... And with a good enough pilot and the right tactics, a Python can kill a Conda. Especially in PvE. I don't fool myself that I could do it in PvP, because I never have PvP'd and don't know the tactics for it, but I've taken many PvE 'Condas with a Python.

Funny...

you have a clipper in front of you, you wait the scan and what do you do?

You "only" fire 2 beam. Seems a bit strange to me. Usually with an enemy in front of you you would deplete your entire power firing every weapon you have.

Anyway, okay: with a 130 Mil fit you can kill a cobra (how much is a cobra a fitted? 9 milions). And? For another clipper, dropship or phyton? They are class 3 so the beam class 2 got a penalty...

And yes: once you have the target on your aim you (should) fire with your weapons and here comes the heat problems.

Never used a Pa btw cause I don't like weapons with ammunitions (but this is a my personal taste).

Anyway, I can understand the Op: except for landing on outpost or a stronger (but not so much) shield the python, afetr the nerf, is an overpriced ship.

A clipper is much more fun to play.

Anaconda is the best solo CZ ship for sure. With A7 Shields and 8*A0 Shield boosters it is a tough ship. I have complemented that with 2 A6, 2 A5 and 2 A4 SCB:s... :) I wouldn't want to be ambushed by a wing of human players (since the rebuy is 22MCr), but any other situation is easily handled.
