Using Thrustmaster HOTAS on XBOX one: Advice HERE

I am trying to get to more of a cockpit setup.

Nice couch setup! Unfortunately i need to be closer to the screen to see...

Using a 42" Samsung LCD TV 5 feet away this works great even with my failing eyesight. Being a Samsung tech for a few years the size of the TV is all about the distance you are viewing it from. Many go too big being too close and don't like the results. Look up the numbers before you purchase.

It's a Playseat Challenge racing seat with two metal outdoor patio tables. Two kitchen plastic cutting boards are attached to the tables with velcro then the HOTAS sits nicely on them with the short cable running below the sitting position as seen in the picture. Being 'loose' they can be angled as desired for your most comfortable position. Racing wheel and pedals complete the setup. One can of course switch to rudder pedals in seconds when not racing. The seat and attached controllers can be folded up when not in use. Very comfortable playing for hours and definitely adds to the immersion. If going for a 'Pro' setup version playing ED without going nuts with three monitors, VR and totally taking over one room to play a game this might be the solution you are looking for at the least expense. If you are married less is more you can get away with. Still playing ED you will have to spend a lot more on romantic dinners! You will be able to afford them. :)

For dedicated ED players one can remove the racing wheel adding a keyboard connected to a PC with a monitor next to the TV. Then lookup 3rd party websites looking for a current solution (where can I find arsenic?) or making comments on the Forum while awaiting decent missions to accept in the game. Me I have a PC ED account with two monitors to do that so playing on the PS4 I use the second monitor to watch TV while flying around on the main one in ED. It lessens the 'grind' aspect of the game.

The hard part was finding a 17" high table that matches the arm rests height of the seat. Tables are also very convenient for additional controllers, TV remote, cell phone, beverage etc. This is a PS4 setup but would be identical purchasing the Xbox versions of the controllers. Another fan was working on a dedicated Thrustmaster HOTAS mount which attaches to the Challenge seat but I haven't heard any more about it.

@ Hoop' but but where do ya elbows rest ? ( makes my funny bone tingle jus' thinking about it )

Depends upon one's arm reach as the tables can be moved closer/farther to get the HOTAS 'just right". Still the elbows can end up on the metal tables. I added some soft pads (not shown) directly behind the controllers and problem solved. One could also use elbow pads. Still looking for the perfect 17" high gaming table to match. Maybe purchase a standard 20" and cut off 3" on the legs... :)

UPDATE: Actually at 17.7" height I found one pretty close with the Parsons End Table. Would still need board extensions (bolted/glued/custom side mounted) as the cable between the joystick and throttle is a little too short. Still I bought two of them and will post how they work out. Maybe seeing how they work with a standard office chair. We'll see. I like 4 legs for the stability. Anyway some ideas to consider.

Meanwhile here is my first setup with my Multi-Crew. It actually worked quite well. All the best!

I use an old shelf from a bookcase, laid across the arms of the armchair, viewing a 55" 4K Sony at around two metres - allows me to have my Windows tablet set up between the throttle and stick, use it for capturing my commander log information (old school, making notes manually in MS OneNote :) )

Okay okay, good grief, hows about this lot then me hearties ?

Hi,
On the hotas, when in the galaxy map what takes you back to present location? Used to be Y (i think) on the controller.
Can't find this in the options.

Thanks,
P

Wow, I love the setups. Gives me my own ideas.

Don't forget the rudder and the up-down buttons on the throttle. Not sure if Y returns you to present location.

One thing that has helped me was going into the controller settings and finding the appropriate section and seeing what is listed there and what is blank......

Thought I'd tried all buttons, obviously not, thanks BT.

Yea Ick initially forgot about them in the galaxy map but got there eventually.
What I've tried to do is get used to it with the default to avoid the inevitable loss of a custom setup at some time.
Only change I made I think was the FA, needed more convenient button combo.

Cheers,
P

Rudder is not on the throttle stick unless you map it there, by default it is lateral thrust.
Yaw(rudder) is the twist on the joystick by default.

@Plox' iirc its the B button.

No joy Bullet, I know what you meant B takes you back out of the galaxy map to the dash or at least it did for me.
What I'm trying to find is how to get back to the present location within the galaxy map, the white marker, from anywhere in the map.
As mentioned I think Y used to do it on the controller, I'll connect controller again and see where it is in the options and .....

Cheers,
P

Any chance of giving us more settings beyond dead zone for joy stick on XBOX

Looking for sensitivity/multiplier or curves. For flight assist on flight it's fine but for FA off combat you can't make small enough adjustments without over controlling to use fixed weapons.

Just curious if it's possible. I've tried for a month thinking it was just a practice thing but isn't the case.

Thanks!

There's no sensitivity setting for HOTAS on PC for E-D either...deadzones and roll into yaw sensitivity only. Outside of serious flight sims...that setting is rare in games and is usually tailored from the HOTAS desktop software.

I've said it often enough...a HOTAS doesn't make you fly any better, FA on or off. It's no more accurate than a controller, it simply has more buttons and an extra flight axis or 2...it just adds immersion and a feel to the game. I tried with mouse and keyboard hearing it was way more accurate and how the true l33t PvP dudes and dudettes flew in FAoff...

I was like a cow let loose with a machinegun...went back to my fancy HOTAS in disgust

Even with dead zones chopped to nothing you can't make small enough moves to constantly use hit scan weapons.

Lets face it. The HOTAS ONE isn't exactly a high piece of hardware bit more of a "it'll work" deal...
