Vanguards / Squadron rework screencaps from stream......

How soon before the moaning starts lone guys can't have an SFC?
I mean... already! I already want one, annoyingly. : )

I messaged the friend I usually play with last night to talk about how I'm torn between four different ways of interacting with Vanguards. Bear in mind my character's RP is going in the direction of being very very independent and skeptical.

1. I make a squadron of one. I'm planning some RP involving an extended exile in the Pleiades, with some silly self-imposed rules, which will mean that Reduced Premium Ammo Synthesis perk could be huge. I could set up my dream squadron carrier: a freehaven in the Elysian Shore, in a complementary location with DSSA, RP'd as offering a variety of services to people needing to disappear. In an RP sense the squadron carrier wouldn't belong to my character, it'd be a service he uses during his story arc.
2. I make a squadron just with this friend so we can do stuff together.
3. He's already in a squadron (Browncoats Uprising), so I cave and join even though my character wouldn't, and we don't know what perk set-up they'll choose. Also I suspect quite a few squadrons will do something like have a Newbie/Outsider rank for people who join but don't actually play with the group in Open, and that rank won't have access to many of the features. For that reason I'm not sure how much fun I'll get out of nominally being in a squadron.
4. I look for a big squadron relevant to my character's RP (if there is one) and take the plunge and play how Frontier want.

why would a solo player need a feet carrier? never mind owning 2 feet carriers...
If you are a real solo player just flying ships and enjoying the game... not endlessly hauling cargo from A to B cause >discord moderator name here< in the >power play discord name here< said so.
If you are borderless and free of faction bounds... you find a spot you like and don't need to endlessly move your whole fleet of ships around...
And if you spot a new space to squat then ship transfers are a thing!

Despite the loss of many an engineered module... I do not miss my cutter or fleet carrier after having reset.

And besides the fleet carriers are nowhere near as awesome or fun as a Split Raptor in X4. That thing can actually get involved in a fight! Its not just a spot to squat in.

I am reliably informed most cmdrs have at least one, typically two feet and thus the need to have carriers for said feet (ie shoes). Sometimes one or other is missing, for various reasons, but I am not sure that has much to do with Elite?

If you are referring to fleet carriers, they have just as much value for a solo operator up to some shenanigans, as they do a group of mates having a good time. One cannot overstate the value of a station that can relocate with minimal delay, and migrate both owner and or ships + modules to parts known, or unknown.

Oh yea forgot we can't store modules and ships in stations. Sorry.

When was the last time you moved the station? Sample size of one, is really just opinion. So my comments are also just opinion, but they are different opinion which suggests that a carrier having no value isn't really the open and shut case it might seem.

I know I am somewhat terrible at communicating but I am sure I made it clear that "if you have need for moving your whole fleet every 2 hours then cool. use it"

If you use an electric toothbrush and find it fun to charge every day then brush away!
But most of these people don't even brush.
But comparing it from electric to analog toothbrushes falls apart...
As I personally use a analog brush cause I got sick and tired of my electric toothbrush running out of charge. And found myself brushing manually. Its easier for me.

But why would one need 2 electric toothbrushes and 50 spare brush heads with colour codes and name tags... for themselves...
Maybe for a gag or a laugh. But eventually the joke gets old...

And if you sit about and refuse to learn your joke got old... you grow old...
And so in this world we have people who have gone old and senile before they've even hit the age of 20.

Given the introduction of the Squadron Bank, I wonder if Squadrons will be able to tithe members earnings (in the same way as NPC crew do)?
That might be a good idea actually cause it help automate feeding the squadron bank. especially if said bank can also be used to pay for squadron member's repairs and re-arms (they mentioned in the stream about paying for repairs for members)

Players don't need to seek approval from other players as to how they choose to play the game and use the features available to them.
I guess that's the difference between me and others... I don't need aproval...
I guess I can be compared to some woman sitting drinking a glass of water... enjoying her life. Glancing over and seeing someone walk about with a hat with a water dispenser built in it. I may comment on it. But won't force him to use a glass... It might be convenient but "why? why really if not for a gag or joke or novelty?"

But the others don't. the defend it like its the only way they can drink water or else they will die of thirst... very few go "yea its for the novelty!"
And so I just enjoy my glass of water... now wondering what is happening with hooomans...

But why do you care about other people’s dental routines? It doesn’t make any difference to your dental hygiene.

I don’t know why someone would want two FCs, but I’m not going to act like I have some sort of moral superiority because I choose not to use one on my alt.

Idk. Someone was pulling parralels/metaphours between using a fleet carrier with using an electric toothbrush. So I rolled with it.

But such parralels fall apart fast sometimes and leave everyone with bad breath.

again. Apologies for not being very good at communicating. And again. If they just go "its a novelty" I just sit back and enjoy my glass of water.
But few do so.
But since I am just repeating myself over and over its clear this current thread has attracted the screeching people and will attract more so I'm taking my figurative glass of full water and enjoying it elsewhere.

Enjoy!

Yeah,

I watched Obsidian Ant's video and I just find myself thinking "Why would I go out of my way to get involved in any of this?"

Okay, the "perks" are kind of nice but if I've been happily pottering around, doing my own thing, I don't really see anything that might compel me to change my attitude.
Ultimately, I guess I'm just not a "joiner" and I know I'm not going to be terribly interested in doing the things I'm supposed to do for a squadron/vanguard.
Also, I know it's not just me because, previously, whenever I have got involved in group activities in ED I've ended-up losing interest because other people fail to show up and do their bit either.

Whenever FDev introduces stuff in ED I see people saying "I already have a job. I don't need a game trying to give me another one" and anything that requires prolonged, repeated, structured activity is likely to erode my enthusiasm fairly quickly.
I might want to go mining this week, or explode pirates, but next week I might decide to take my DBX and go backpacking in Colonia so being expected to help win a war in some backwater system, week after week, isn't really my thing.

Course, if there's a Vanguard for other people like me I might consider joining it but I doubt there'd be much point in creating one, aside from the irony.
See, my group gets on every so often but mostly its just 1, 2 or maybe 3 of us at any given time. Usually just 1. I would have been happy with a button to "share cargo hold with squadron".

One thing I do like about ED is I don't have to be on to do stuff (except in the case of carrier upkeep). It isn't like other MMOs where you will "fall behind if you don't log on".
