[Video] Griefing : is there a problem?!

In terms of Distant Worlds 2, there's a lot more players exploring than griefing.
Which is why it's not a problem. There are too few and they have little influence. It's a minor irritant at worst.

The biggest problem is they like to present themselves as being a factor in this game. They feed on attention after all. Which isn't a problem an sich. But imagine you're Frontier. And you have too many task and too little time to do these tasks. And the self proclaimed poster bois of PvP go after an event which Frontier can use to generate free marketing. Then you're not scoring points with Frontier.

I don't know whether this has a negative effect on ideas like Open Only Powerplay or the introduction of PvP focussed features, but it sure doesn't help.

It's simply unsustainable. With the stuff they pull during DW2, they're just teaching a whole generation of relatively new Elite players that PvP is an activity for stupid kids with Twitch streams.

A few years ago, there was still worthwhile PvP in Elite. During CGs, you had people interdicting you who actually made the effort to act in the context of the lore and particular background of that CG storyline, and it was lots of fun. You weren't just getting ganked for the lulz, but there was actual gameplay there, creatively used by PvP players to enrich the game.

Now it's just a bunch of bored people racking up fictional kill counts while complaining about how broken PvP in Elite is.

If losing a few $15 sales is a problem for FDEV, then they really aren't doing so well.

I'd imagine the reality to be a bit different, despite all the hand wringing on the forums.

Anyway, the ship containing all the possibilities and hopes for open powerplay and PvP oriented features has sailed in this game.

In fact, it hit another ship while exiting the station, mistook it for a griefer and accidentally opened fire on the station.

I'm afraid it's going back to a stock sidey.

To be perfectly honest, I hope FDEV actually does give in to all the calls for a PVE only mode.

That will keep some of the whinge brigade from invading Star Citizen.

We have some there already, but my hope is that they will all migrate to ED once the great conversion has been accomplished.

You lot migrate in herds, right? ;)

Some get butt-hurt, some shrug it off and learn, some grab a pair of pulse lasers and join us.

Some line up in a bunch of keelbacks just so they can wave at the famous Harry Potter before committing space seppuku.

It takes all kinds...

But think about the others that we've inspired :)

My point is this, lets take Open Only Powerplay. Which means Open At All Time to the same gankers that are ganking DWE2 right now. When you see what's going on with DWE2 and DG2 would you as Frontier be keen to reproduce that?

Even when the majority of players may try to make Open Only Powerplay a success. It only takes a few to make it fail. And we all know these few will try to do just that, because it's what they do.

Not really, Powerplay is all about PVP. Whats the difference in a large group of people trying to kill you or stop you from completing an objective vs the people with the same engineering and varied skill-sets labelled as a PVPer right now.

Power-players wont have this problem, because they will be engineered to fight and survive anyways.

Which is it Ziggy?

Should we fret over being inconsequential?

Or should we fret over causing the game to fail?

Please tell me what to wring my hands over, Ziggy!

I'm so confused!

not followed the powerplay open stuff yet (maybe in a few months, when it still being argued) but from what i have seen... with the mining being easy cash, nothing would change without a lot of messing around.. that i could not see Fdev doing.

I see people go out to mine, cash up, then buy cargo (PP cargo) in the biggest ship they can. So they would still do this, just log into open once landed.

Would only affect people that still attack other ships (i like to do that, and in open) but i guess a lot of them would then switch to cargo only, to avoid open. Its a shame, i would like more Power play and BGS to be open only or 50% less effective outside of open... but there is no way to make it work without a lot of faffing around, that would end in a mess of code and confused players :)

Going for them Stars? Get ready.

Protect yourself.
Ja, there is nothing to worry about actually - forcing someone to do what "she" not wants to do? Never happens! Be active invite protectors.

Its about those going getting all together protecting themselves.

If you can not or do not want to, you'll never need, hire friends.
Just organize yourselves, in (all) the beauty, Open is exclusive.

Going for them Stars? Hire Guards!

I know you are confused little one. I will say it again, and I will speak slowly this time.

You are inconsequential in game.

You are not capable of causing the game to fail. This is called a strawman. The way I worded it was, and I quote myself: "I don't know whether this has a negative effect on ideas like Open Only Powerplay or the introduction of PvP focussed features, but it sure doesn't help." So I am talking about a potential feature. Not the game. And I'm not saying you will cause it to fail, I am saying your actions won't help.

Am I crystal this time? If not, just ask. There's no such thing as stupid questions. Persevere and you too will be able to comprehend what you're reading. Don't give up you hear! :)

edit: everybody ready for a "No U"? I know I am! :D

And that potential feature is dead.

As we all know, you just like to argue.

It seems to make you feel like you've accomplished something, so go you.

Too bad you're not half so willing to PvP in the game.

You might actually have fun.
